Wongel some Africans families are freeloaders. I agree with her perspective. Giving back sometimes becomes over laboured and they develop an arrogant sense of entitlement. I can relate to this moving back to the UK in 1988 working my way up from ground zero.
It’s not just an African thing; every culture does it. Don’t be so naïve, Wongel. When you talk about people being dependent on others, remember that there are many who rely on the welfare system in Western countries, funded by other taxpayers.
@@OzSpud72and welfare also funded by the extraction of resources from Africa and other places by many methods. Stop letting these mfers steal the gold under your feet and you won’t be asking us abroad for money.
@@OzSpud72i couldn't agree more. Am an African. Unfortunately I think we are extremely arrogant when we have the upper hand. We help each other less than other folk. Until during funerals. You will be surprised at how much money is squandered on funerals for someone who might have never afforded a decent pair of trousers in their life. After death , huge amounts of money are raised to buy expensive suits, watches and coffins for the dead 😂😂😂
Haha, try telling that to the Asian students overseas! The number of Asian students working in Australia and sending money back home is enormous. Every week, our local Western Union is packed with Asian students lining up to send money.
It's very easy to say this when the complainer is not telling the entire story. In most of these situations, at least with african families, the one that emigrated, did it with the help and support of the entire family(monetary and emotional support) and agreed to help them in return once he reached the destination, then once they are comfortable they want to forget about the agreement and even worse, forget to tell their kids about it and that's how you end up with second generations in videos crying about family members in the motherland "asking too much"...
I hadn't heard the term until a few years ago, not knowing that I was suffering from it. This tax exist in every black family/community and is not just relegated to the African community. With that being said, I'm only obligated to help mom and dad, no one else from my extended family. However, I help because I want to, when I don't want to help , I won't.
I have an aunty who has never had a job her entire life, she has 6 kids and all my aunty's siblings have had to contribute to her living expenses and school fees for her kids. My mother is no longer with us. Now that attitude of I need you to help me because you're doing better than me has passed on to her kids. My cousin (one of her kids, girl) was offered a job overseas to look after our other cousin's kids, and try to pave way for this cousin's citizenship, but my aunty told her daughter it was beneath her to look after her cousin's kids and told her to refuse the offer, lol. Now she's just at home doing nothing, waiting for that perfect job she's been dreaming of. They get offered jobs, but they quit their jobs because they don't like the job or it's not the job they studied for 😂. It's a circus out there.
Everyone should drastically reduce the contributions. Don't stop giving every😮one reduce the amount drastically. If you continue you are enabling and it will NEVER change. They won't change but you guys can.
I have lost count of the number of Africans residing in western countries who have worked themselves to death, so that they can send all their hard earned money, to those foul, evil, ungrateful family members back home, who sit around all day waiting for a hand out. I have lost count of people who have sent money back home to family members, asking them to build a house. They squander all the money while sending fake photos of another person's home that is under construction.🥶🥶 The trouble started big, big time when these money transfer companies, understandably became very popular from the early 2000s onwards. As well as the ease of communication with the arrival of mobile phones and the internet.
I see her point (minus the colorful language). I believe in helping my friends and family EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE! At some point, there comes a time when the person or persons you are helping have to help themselves. Just my thoughts.

Thank you for presenting this topic in a distinctive way - it is indeed a complex topic and it happens in most African families and in most African countries. This is what we did and were raised on. You feel deep down that you must provide for your family members on a monthly and continuous basis, and your conscience even scolds you if you delay for any reason in performing this eternal duty. These are the harsh conditions that many African countries are going through, which makes life more difficult, as the population does not have job opportunities or income and may lose their property, as is currently happening in Sudan for example since the start of the absurd war that has displaced millions. Therefore, members of families in countries where wars are taking place find that they must send and send to save the lives of these relatives.

There is a difference between refusing someone and insulting someone… In front of millions of viewers. Yes, if what this woman says is true, her family members should be ashamed of herself. However, she decided to disrespect certain family members by cursing them out in front of millions of potential viewers! One does not have to be from an African culture to know that this is severely disrespectful, not only to the individuals, but to the entire family as a whole! whatever back lash this woman got, she deserved. Two wrongs do not make a right. I’m sure many of us have one or more family members that behave in a lazy manner. However, there should be no excuse for getting on social media to disrespect them and the rest of the family. It’s perfectly fine to help your people back home from time to time. The issue arises when it turns into a regular expectation, almost like an allowance, and they come to rely on it. That’s when it becomes a problem. For me personally, I enjoy helping those in genuine need, it feels good to offer support where it's truly needed. But when it becomes a routine expectation rather than an occasional act of kindness, it can become overwhelming and unsustainable.
I am all for sending money to your family only if you have the extra to give and only if they are being responsible. I have seen this conversation among african immigrants in America and they have mentioned how much the cost of living is going up in america. Despite how frugal they have been, they have had to stop sending money so frequently but family doesnt understand why the money is no longer coming then have the audacity to call them selfish. On another note i have seen african immigrants say the money they sent back home, their family was responsible and only used what they absolutely needed and invested the rest of the money to buy them a house/land so they have their own when they return to Africa(i love that for them❤). This is how it should be done. Not family always with their hand out and you continue to struggle and get left with nothing after investing in your community/family. Some people get so greedy and think the immigrant family member is supposed to fund their lifestyle.

I don't have a problem with the young ladies language. Shes justified in calling the family member names. Imagine you become an adult and realize a family member your father supported was really just freeloading off of him and then they come to you asking for your money too now that youre grown. What have they been doing with the money all this time her father was supporting them? Obviously not being responsible. I don't think she needed to explain anything any further. Black tax is a bad evil joke. I am a white European and send and support to my so called extended family in Afrika. And i know the situation there. To send money to Afrika is the right thing to do. Liberate Afrika from IMF. World Bank and more western institutions.
Anyone healthy of age 18-55 years should be working in any form, i know there are no many job opportunities in Africa but if you have a person abroad why dont you just ask for a capital to start something, I for one I wouldnt regularly send money to anyone in that category, well, there exceptions with parents, I think.
Help family & society our privilege, the other do it,, Need change our community & country: government the politican mob &. corrupt destroy country the people suffer,
⚠Trigger warning⚠ (2 Corinthians 12:14 ""Children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children".) Children don't ask to be born, adults make this choice when they open their legs. Keep your legs closed unless you can look after them.
The Israelites are commanded to Honour their Mother and Father. If your substance is money, then so be it, taking care if them, so be it, etc. Not everyone who asks. Exodus 20: 12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which YHVH thy ELOHIYM giveth thee. Selah.
This black tax isnt exclusively African as its operated across the diaspora in different ways. In the caribbean they do the same thing, send money back to help relatives. Or those who are of caribbean descent who visit family are always expected to bring something for the extended family. In the states its more if you make it in some profession you suppose to give back to the community usually in helping someone else getting to a similar position or getting others jobs. In the 90s a lot of the L.A. rappers would bring their family and mostly friends up with them when they made it or in Eazy's case would bring the music industry to the hood for video shoots where locals got paid just being in the video. Which is why when he was around and the rest of NWA among others could always go back without being touched. These days, some cant because they left evryone behind without loking back. A singer id that and once he returne to do a shoot he got chased out of the community for not helping out.
Here's my 2c from the perspective of someone who has never dealt with this issue personally. I can't help but notice that immigrants from Latin American and Asian countries, among other groups, send remittances to their families back in their old countries. America gets immigrants from all over who send remittances overseas and south of the border for the purpose of helping their people back home, and I will leave it at that.
Times have changed. Few get enough paid to do that and live the life they deserve (well in America you have a fair currency so they just print that out whenever but we will see how long that lasts)
@blkqueen6201 My point is that those people are more likely to support each other and work together for a common goal, which appears to be the opposite of what this woman is thinking. That's one reason how other groups get ahead of Black Americans in America. One reason among many.
@@michaelrandle8316the problem runs a little deeper with black African people. It's some kind of curse or sickness. I do not hear about Chinese or Korean immigrants going to western country to make money, them they go home and end up unalived or beat up by trying to help their community. there are certainly cases of selfish family members expecting money to fund their lifestyle but I don't see it affecting their communities the same way it affects black people/Africans. It's like as soon as they get a little money some of them lose their minds. There's some deeper issues tied to racism and slave trade that I see connecting to our financial issues that is specific to black/African people that we need to work through. There are plenty of us who genuinely want to help our communities but when we're met with hostility and traitors we don't want to help anymore. What has happened to all the good presidents who have tried to put African people first??? Some traitors get persuaded by a few dollars from the west and the president and their plans meet their demise so the people continue to not have much as a whole. The current president of Burkina Faso is trying his best and has had multiple attempts on his life already. Why? For trying to get rid of outsiders so his people can flourish? Why is that being met with violence?
@@michaelrandle8316 completely forgetting how different cultures have different relationships with money & understwnding of budgeting investing etc.. I can’t take a person seriously who applies body lotion while discussing a serious issue. If you remove the video and play the sound, I’ll come back to watch it in its entirety. SMH.
The problem is these Africans lie. The first time my aunt asked for money my aunt told me to not tell my mother. My cousins (her children) would ring me all the time asking me for money for alcohol talking bout it’s for this business and that when there’s nothing there. My other cousin said “I don’t care about you, it’s just about the phone”. I literally gave one cousin a place to stay when he was on the street. The guy has skills, but just wanted to get home and get drunk every day . At a certain point. I’ve suffered enough. My parents helped yours for decades. And you’re just expecting the same? Why did my parents pay for you school in many circumstances then. The world is different now. It’s no longer that because I’m from Europe I can afford to take care of you for nothing like a dog or a baby. I don’t mind paying black tax but most places are not so bad now that family will starve to death without your help. As an economist. That money should go to projects that build generation wealth. Not getting family drunk on the weekend because of “emergency”
If some one wants to help his or her family no problem. If that personne dont want it's his or her problem. Some people want you to help but thy do nothing or close to nothing to get money. Mom and dad but the rest of the familly. She is right get up go work and voila
I know a lot of Asians, Latin Americans, and even Middle Easterns send Mony back home, but none of them go online and trash their family like this she keeps the stereotype cursed
There is a reason Africa is poorer than all those areas you mentioned. Please, if you don’t understand that basic concept don’t speak on it. We are black African “homo sapiens”, not these other literal Neanderthal hybrids. And in this case I don’t mean that as an insult. Africans are expected to do everything no help from anyone. Just expecting. Those other cultures are genuinely better at actually helping and supporting and working hard themselves than Africans. You wouldn’t get it until you experience the “you asked me money last week and now you have constantly another emergency” conversation. At a certain point you’re just getting abused. But I don’t think this comment was actually meant for conversation. I think you just wanted to send shots

Us Africans, in general, are raised to respect elderly even when we are angry and correct. You don't call out your uncles and aunts by calling them "son of b****" even though you feel like you're right. We need to stop with these western non sense.
We are our parents insurance plan
Don't quote the Holy bible for trash-taking the bible tells us to help older parents from the beging that is why you get cursed
@@tigiste5465 Only quote the bible when it suits your agenda, right? "that is why you get cursed", WTF does that even mean?
@@tigiste5465they did give you trigger warning to be honest. Triggered much 😂
An African always is you and your people never send money home is must
The Israelites are commanded to Honour their Mother and Father. If your substance is money, then so be it, taking care if them, so be it, etc. Not everyone who asks. Exodus 20: 12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which YHVH thy ELOHIYM giveth thee. Selah.
She is a fool
What is all that stuff she putting on can't hear her words too much distraction with cosmetic
Okay, your point
In some African cultures simply having a savings account can be seen as withholding money from family members. The levels of entitlement make it harder for people to get along which why we end up here.
🧐👍🏿
You’ve just had a civil war in your country. Do you think we viewers are stupid, we Africans share? BS
Exactly. Other groups are on code even if they feel the same way, it won’t be put online. If there are such videos, I have yet to see one.
