EAST AUCKLAND NZ - Rolling farmlands and coastal views | Maraetai, Omana & Duder Regional Parks

- Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand but did you know you don't need to go very far at all to catch a glimpse of beautiful rolling farmlands and stunning coastal views? You can do a day trip out to East Auckland to soak in such scenic sights.
Which is exactly how we spent one sunny afternoon here in Auckland NZ. We visited a local favourite lunch and dinner spot then visited Omana Regional Park, followed by Maraetai Beach then went for a walk around Duder Regional Park too.
Firstly we fueled up with a quick feed at Fong Mei Cafe. Fong Mei Cafe has been a family favourite for many years. It's a casual dining restaurant serving Hong Kong (HK) Cantonese style food.

Then we were off, driving through Whitford to get to our first scenic spot - Omana Regional Park. Omana Regional Park is located only a few minutes away from Maraetai beach which was where we headed over to next.

Maraetai Beach is a white shelly beach and a popular destination for families and beach goers (particularly in summer). It's only a 10-15 min drive away from Duder Regional Park.

Finally, we went for a late afternoon walk at Duder Regional Park. We did the Whakakaiwhara Pa trail (which is about half way during the Farm Loop walk) to get stunning 360 views of the Hauraki Gulf and windswept farmlands. We even ran into a bunch of sheep during our time at Duder Regional Park. This is definitely a must visit place in Auckland especially if you're wanting to see picturesque beautiful New Zealand farmland without too much effort or travel.

New Zealand is a beautiful country...love that 20 minutes away, you can experience all that greenery and nature.
Sometimes kiwis don't know how spoilt they are right. In some cities you have to go hours outside of the centre to see beautiful greenery 🌿🙂

@@PeterandYen sorry I don't remember who the actor was in the ads for Fresh-Up. I thought it was just a random dude who acted like he really enjoyed that drink. As for Golden Circle, I only associate that brand with canned pineapples, haven't got to try any of their drinks (my family were poor growing up in the 80s and 90s).
Same with our families mine moved from China after the revolution and yen's moved from Malaysia. Slowly built their way up.

😂 Sundai you always crack us up. Nature, noodles poop is definitely a better order 😂 the birds called pukeko they're pretty common all around New Zealand cute lil fellas. Winter is good if you like snowboarding 🤔 plus queenstown is pretty amazing during winter. We're just trying to get you to come so we can all catch up again 😁👋
South island is nice during winter but not the north cause of the rain. You get the lush green grass and plentiful snow on the mountains 😎
Yen you are not alone, I also get those seashells and I absolutely did paint those when I was a little girl.

I'm in love with HK cafes. It's all about the wonton noodles and Milk tea for me..if theres the pineapple bao..order that too!! Those wonton are plump!!

Nice job. I grew up in Omana, right on the waterfront in your drone shot. So different back then, no town water or sewerage, but the house is still there. Loving your vlogs,.

@@PeterandYen No, I don't - it has changed beyond all recognition. For example, Beachlands was a collection of real ramshackle kiwi baches at the end of a narrow road that passed through farmland. Once you left Otara and went down East Tamaki Rd, you were in strawberry farms - lots of them, some PYO. Botany and all those other suburbs did not exist; not a hint of any development there, it was farmland all the way to Maraetai.
But it was great place to grow up, back then. Still like the coast drive out to Kawakawa bay, try to travel that way if we have time when visiting Auckland.
Woah those memories of the good old days are priceless right. I have a good memory of how the city centre used to be with the downtown bus station oriental market. It's all so different now too. Can imagine how different it must be for you thinking back too 😯
Make sure you guys go check out Waitawa Regional Park. It’s not far from Duder. Definitely my favourite.

so awesome to see a different part of Auckland. I used to also paint shells when I was younger. I actually used to collect all the scallop shells that were used at the restaurant I used to work at and painted designs on them and they used to be the presents I would give friends as birthday presents etc.

My grandparents live near maratai, whenever i visit we always launch the boat from there and go fishing in the gulf or out in the firth of thames. Really nice coast.

The regional park has some really stunning views and all the birds were so cute 😀 The shoe cleaning at the entrance really surprised me I've never seen that before. Is it to stop you from bringing seeds on your shoes into the park?
It's awesome you don't have to go far for views like this wherever you are in NZ 😁 the shoe cleaning is common here especially when visiting nz forests or wherever there are native/kauri trees. It's to prevent kauri dieback caused by a microscopic soil-borne organism. It infects and damages their roots and cuts nutrients to the trees. Nearly all that get infected will die so it's a big thing here to prevent it and protect our native trees 👍

I love your channel guys! How beautiful is NZ. I can’t believe how expensive petrol is though. The lowest we reached here during quarantine was 89c here in Oz (usually it would cost between $1.35-$1.47)

In NZ I swear there's a horlicks shortage.. restaurants just don't sell it here no more (cept for fong mei) and you can't buy them at any asian or western supermarkets anymore either. Hope it's only temporary :/ Oh and also try "Milo peng" there if you haven't already.. It's iced Milo but so good that even the fast food joints like KFC and McD's have it as a drink lol ❤❤ - Yen

you guys should try 'panda kitchen' in Meadowlands, it's my family's favourite restaurant in the east! :) They do super yummy salt and pepper squid, pork ribs and claypot rice :)
Hi Kathryn 😁👋 our family goes there quite often too. My mum and dad love the bbq meats there. They say it's the best in Auckland. Will neda try the pepper squid and clay pot haven't had those before 🤤 sounds yummmm I love a good clay pot especially
