    paul gilbert is one of the few metal musicians that is actually a good role model. i had a friend that he took lessons from back in 1984 and I asked him about paul's rockstar lifestyle. I was shocked when my friend told me that he didn't drink, didn't do drugs, wasn't banging groupies, and that all he did was play guitar. Thanks to that, paul is still learning new things and going down new avenues as a musician.

    crazy stuff... the excitement when you hear legendary music played like that in front of you, it's definitely an unique feeling nothing else can bring... I remember this luthier guy that I sent my first guitar for repairs and tuning, he had a striped EVH guitar clone, he could play Eruption note by note all that jazz, but I specially remember him for playing the first Dire Straits debut album, solos like "In The Gallery" being performed with an EVH rig, that memory is never going to be erased from my soul, was that something else 👍it's a shame that mark knopfler later on would turn into a weird passive aggressive asshole and changed his entire style of guitar playing (for the worse in my opinion) The guy even went on to fire his own brother from the band, his brother's Rhythm Guitar sound was one of the reasons that debut album became so legendary in the first place.... well whatever that's a different story... that 1st album from them remains legendary... 1978 epic year in music 🤘Van Halen, Dire Straits, The Police

      @@backtoshallabal6662 Nah, even Randy appreciated his playing and didn't have anything bad to say. It's just that Eddie had a bit of a big head and wouldn't really talk shop with people and that's what Randy was about, he wanted to learn from everyone. Eddie didn't want people to copy him so he was always kind of secretive early on. There are stories of Randy playing on the same night as Eddie and him trying to strike up a conversation about gear setup or technique and Eddie kind of blew him off. Supposedly it was a bit off putting but Randy never really spoke poorly of him.

    • @WaltPowellEnt
      @WaltPowellEnt ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually this is not true, palm muting is an essential technique in electric guitar playing, It is particularly useful in complex rhythms and single-note passages, where precise timing and control are important for creating a cohesive and musical sound. Most players today have mastered Van Halen's style with great precision, and in most cases, they have even duplicated his style even better Eddie Van Halen himself. But this still does not take away from Eddies greatness.

  • @sirzap7542
    @sirzap7542 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Paul's sound is a little too dry. Perhaps a touch more reverb and delay. However, Paul has always been an amazing musician who pretty much always pours his heart into what he does. Paul would probably be an excellent choice to jump into Van Halen and get them back out on tour. However, I think the absolute best choice for filling Eddie's shoes would be Wolfgang! Why? Simple! He's got Eddie's blood running through him! Where a lot of us guitarists may struggle with Eddie's techniques & sound, it just might come natural to Wolfgang. To me personally, Eddie was the greatest and biggest heartbreak when he passed away. Losing Randy really sucked and was extremely painful, but losing Eddie was 10 times that because it was Eddie through his playing that challenged every guitarist to come up higher, dig deeper and open your mind more. Eddie was the one who started it all!
    When eruption came out, IT BLEW AWAY EVERY GUITARIST ON THE PLANET!!!! Two years after that, Randy ( a quick understudy of Eddie ) jumped on the scene. Between Eddie and Randy, those two rule the guitar world, but it was Eddie who started it all!
