  • He was Santiago Meza Lopez, one of the most mysterious and most important figures in the narcotics underworld. He was so important that just a few days after his capture, an armed faction of cartel hitmen tried and failed to break him out of his cell.

i studied this case in college. The reason why he only got 10 years is because the crime he didn't actually murder anyone he would just be in charge of dissolving the bodies in acid. He only got penalized for being part of a cartel but not for his actions. The actions he didn't are not established as a crime in MX so they couldn't really charge him with more than just being part of cartel.

I once heard of an online story were members of a Mexican cartel/gang hung up the dead bodies of people who made them mad. An old man then said to a young man/officer that the cartel was being kind in that instance.
The young man asked something like "what do you mean?" And the old man stated that the cartel was kind enough to leave bodies for the families.

They will, however, take a part of the income earned by regular citizens, like say a ‘30% cut of your business for protection fees against other cartels”
Which is bs really they just take your money. If you don’t pay that’s when you die. But in reality it’s not that common that cartels kill innocent bystanders. The "caustic soda" is sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It's a strong base meaning the opposite of an acid. The Fluoroantimonic acid shown on the cartoon black board is a super acid that would possibly dissolve a body. However, the large volumes needed would be a severe safety risk since it violently reacts with water and moisture (air). Dissolving large amounts of organic material in a container would basically result in an eruption. Fumes also severe safety hazard.

In the game Ghost Recon Wildlands, there’s a cartel boss called El Pozorelo who dissolves dead bodies in acid. Didn’t know they based him on this real life guy. But in the game the character is mentally-handicapped and has a mental age of a child and thinks he’s actually helping since they’re already dead.

getting real for a sec, I don’t think milk would sufficiently dissolve a human body. Cause it’s not acid, so if anything the body’s decomp process would just be sped up a little, or slowed down, I’m not sure. Like maybe milk has some property that either slows down or speeds up the decomp process. Either way, it’s not a efficient as acid.

This is kind of like the "green cremation" method that is beginning to take off. Take a body, dump it into a vat of lye, apply pressure, heat, and agitation and eventually drain the liquid. You are then left with some bones that can be ran through a bone crusher and scattered or disposed of in a landfill or whatever. I mean, given to the surviving loved ones.
There are a lot of ways to dispose of bodies. Cremation (both the fire kind and liquid kind) are kind of scary. They can literally make a body vanish.

Unfortunately, the thing is, once you're in a cartel, you can never get out. You can't even turn yourself in since most of the authorities has ties with the cartel. Even if you survived prison, you might not live for long after release. So even if we gave the dude the benefit of the doubt that he might have wanted out of all this, there really wasn't much he could have done if he wanted to live on. In such cases where your cartel has heavy ties with the authorities, it would probably be better to just stay loyal to your family than to rat them out (since you might even be living a good life in the prison anyway if you had a high rank). So don't just blame the man or the cartel. The ones who are responsible for peace keeping are the ones whom should really be blamed.

Nope, he was not convicted of murder. He was convicted on the basis of desecration of bodies and association with the cartel.

He was an accomplice, but was never really charged of his crimes as he never really killed any of the victims, he just disposed of what the cartel slaughtered, and since Mexico had no law about the criminal offense of illegally getting rid of dead remains, he got off light because of a legal loophole.

I’m not sure why _this_ is what gets the press. He’s just doing what a normal morgue would do with an incinerator, but with corrosive chemicals and for a major crime ring of killers and traffickers.
But this is the guy who everyone wants to see “brought to justice,” and not the people who sent all those bodies to him for disposal?

  • @superdupervu

Life is crazy. In order to put food onto the table for your family, you had to dispose dead bodies. I don’t know, it’s a moral conflict but he didn’t kill. Life’s full of important decisions.

The fact you're indirectly defending his actions concerns me. Even then, why didnt he retire at any point if it were just to put food on the table? His job was important for sure and he made much bank. I don't believe him for a second.

@@mrbust999 Didn't think it was. His influence is strong but its also his way to escape. He's known even at the beginning for his loyalty and efficency so if he really wanted to, its not impossible. The cartel has connections but its no government tracking your every move either. At that point it's just mental fortitude.
