I think what these fans expect is to see if their idols care more than just their own little life. Someone with a huge following can bring a lot of awarness, so they want their idols to reach a lot of people. We always say how much idols are only human so they want their idols want show that side of their humanity and show support to those who need it. I agree to that to some extend, true that they're singers not poticians. But there are real issues going on sometimes, it's good to show that you somewhat care, cause it could have easily been you or a loved one.

I started streaming BTS and each members. I just bought RM album. I streams Illit, TWS, BND, TXT, Enhypen, &Team, Le Sserafim, etc. I boycotted New Jeans, unfollowed them and blocked them on my Spotify. From USA.

Regarding the opinion about the activism, although I do agree that posting a story with a single word is the bare minimum, the fact that Taeyong (and Renjun) still did it, regardless of being in the military, having a collab with a boycotted brand (bc of sm) and getting in trouble with SM (who are probably the ones that deleted the story), is meaningful. His story alone was able to unite a bunch of kpop fandoms on twitter to advocate for the cause and to hold their faves accountable. his actions still had an impact (even if it's small) so it really makes you think how much of a difference it would make if more groups spoke up (although I don't think people should wait for their idols to speak up for them to take action, but unfortunately that's how things seem to be)
Completely agree! On top of that, a lot of kpop fandoms started trending hashtags for their own artists to urge them to speak up! It was just one word (or a few emojis in Renjun's case) but the impact it made was CRAZY and I am so baffled by how OP didn't notice it. If Taeyong from inside the military can do it, why can't the ones outside?

Do they even effing know what UNICEF does? The organization literally donates and assists to all who need it. I think what these fans expect is to see if their idols care more than just their own little life. We always say how much idols are only human so they want their idols want show that side of their humanity and show support to those who need it.

Regarding the opinion about the activism, although I do agree that posting a story with a single word is the bare minimum, the fact that Taeyong (and Renjun) still did it, regardless of being in the military, having a collab with a boycotted brand (bc of sm) and getting in trouble with SM (who are probably the ones that deleted the story), is meaningful. His story alone was able to unite a bunch of kpop fandoms on twitter to advocate for the cause and to hold their faves accountable. his actions still had an impact (even if it's small) so it really makes you think how much of a difference it would make if more groups spoke up (although I don't think people should wait for their idols to speak up for them to take action, but unfortunately that's how things seem to be)
Completely agree! On top of that, a lot of kpop fandoms started trending hashtags for their own artists to urge them to speak up! It was just one word (or a few emojis in Renjun's case) but the impact it made was CRAZY and I am so baffled by how OP didn't notice it. If Taeyong from inside the military can do it, why can't the ones outside?

Maybe it is just me, but most idols have never been big activists and at best have been surface-level attempts so going far and beyond to make them something they do not have always been weird.
