      As a K5 GSXR1000k5 owner from new, I used to be one of those guys that didn't want a computer interfering with my riding experience and thought that having electronics would interfere with my ride. "Electronics are for people that can't ride a bike", was what I thought at the time.
      Then I got an R1M ten years later.
      I was wrong. Or maybe I was right at the time, hard to say. Bike "safety aids" were fairly primitive and crude at the time and they would cut power and kill drive to keep you safe. That isn't the case anymore. These ride-by-wire bikes have extremely sophisticated schemes aimed at *not slowing you down, but helping you go faster*. I'll bet you a set of tires that there as a street rider reading this comment, you won't be able to feel the wheelie or traction control working on an R1M AT ALL. Slide control, yes, because that gets into ignition cuts due to the time needed to control (notice I didn't say "stop".....) the slide.
      Bottom line is that when I got the Yamaha, I was already pretty fast down a country road on the GSXR. But the Yamaha taught me where the limits really are, how far away from them I was, and how to go faster by changing my riding style. I'm not bragging when I say that I'm fast enough to ride a superbike hard enough to flex the frame in corners, so it's not exactly like I'm 'hanging about' or riding like a Squid.
      I've still got the GSXR, it's still a thrilling bike to ride, but I ride it more carefully than the Yamaha. If you could get the Suzuki engine in the yamaha frame, you'd really have something.

    • @carsons5750
      @carsons5750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nunyabidness9257 good comment! 👍 I don’t begrudge modern safety aids like ABS, TCS, wheelie control with the caveat that I believe the rider should be able to turn them off. my minivan has a button to disable traction control for crying out loud, why doesn’t my bike (or hopefully future bike, the Hypermotard).
      But stuff like KTM locking ABS options behind a $750 “track pack” paywall on the 1290 Super Duke means I’ll never buy any of their bikes.
      And ‘luxury items’ like adaptive cruise control are the antithesis to motorcycle riding and inflate production cost and retail prices.
      Those two areas are where I have complaint, I totally agree that the old “I can brake faster than ABS” claim is well and truly debunked.

    • @nunyabidness9257
      @nunyabidness9257 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carsons5750 I don't think you're likely to see aids like adaptive cruise control on a sport bike or naked standard any time soon unless they become so cheap and ubiquitous that they becomea defacto product feature. Touring bikes are another matter, they absolutely would benefit from adaptive CC.... and let's be honest here, the modern interpretation of an Adventure bike really is a touring bike that you aren't as likely to crash on a gravel road or groomed trail. GSA's and Super Adventures are bikes for men who are too proud to say they need a Goldwing.
      So, to me, ACC on a Multistrada, GSA or Super Adventure isn't offensive. These are bikes meant to gobble up miles on an interstate among other things. I don't know about you, but one of the things that hurts the most after a long day in the saddle is my wrist from being permanently attached to the throttle grip all day, metering out small inputs while supporting my torso weight. I don't do a lot of highway riding, but it could make the difference between using a bike for a long trip or taking a car to me. I can always enjoy nice roads without the ACC when I get there.....

I love hearing exhausts howling so for me riding a small bike fast is far more fun than riding a big bike slow. Plus I wonder how long I'd keep my license for on that beast! came back to rewatch this after I got my own speed1200rs. Spot on for most things. it is an Enigma.
    One moment its happily in cruise control in 5th gear at 2800 revs, the next minute you're screaming the thing above 7k rpm , tires are warmed up and you begin barreling into a bend, downshifting from 4th to 2nd with that sweet quickshifter and leaning on that insane front end.
    Then punching out of the corner into warp speed. It's some weird mix of a Honda-like smooth comfortable machine, with immense triple torque (mine seems to pull quite hard from 3k revs, maybe it's how I broke It in ;) ) and high-level superbike handling. Enigma

    I own a 2020 Speed triple Rs 1050 which has the Arrow exhausts and No Exhaust valve. I test rode the 2021 RS 1200 and it felt as if the New Exhaust valve was holding the full experience of the bike back. It makes the bike docile and quiet at the bottom of the rev range and once the exhaust valve opens the bike gets angrier!

    I was really disappointed by this bike when I test rode it. The gearbox is clunky and the suspension is too hard for the road. It isn't particularly comfortable either. Ok, you feel like you're in a video game when you open the throttle but that's it in terms of riding pleasure. I tested it alongside the Street Triple RS and the Aprilia Tuono. I found the Tuono to be by far the most enjoyable of the three for road and city riding, so I bought one😂

    I have a Street Triple that has a fantastic chassis that copes well with all road surfaces, and has an engine that is really, really smooth and is tractable filtering through town, on open twisty roads and on trackdays.
    Sadly it is the most uncomfortable bike I have ever owned (well over 100 now). After 30 minutes I am wanting to get off, as the ergonomics for me are all wrong. I can't think of a bike I have disliked as much as the Triumph for comfort. Maybe I'm just the wrong shape for these.

    Sexy sexy bike! Though, here comes - just my personal opinion ofcourse : i´ve very much been distracted by those mirrors. Even more in that position! But hey, then again thats very much a question of personal taste again, not the bikes fault...
