to be fair she never wanted that position, she was happy as a trophy wife... The problem is how she acted once she was put into that position - she really needed a proper PR person to train and navigate her through the role, a handler, like our princes/princesses received (still doesn't stop stoopid - aka HRH prince harry's little party incident, but it helps mitigate the fallout - and makes damned sure the same mistake is never repeated).
If she had a good PR team and with the proper guidance, she could have come out looking like the sympathetic victim of circumstance, somebody trying to make the best of a situation they were force into taking...
I suspect there was an attempt to bring in PR people, but was stopped dead by trump himself, he is the sort that is known to micromanage literally everything everyone does - so by consequence, we get an uncouth trump and melania, unfiltered, unkempt, and thoroughly uncivil.
