Woodcraft is definitely a skill that's been useful for centuries!
Very informative on spreading the grain split,or rather, how not to. Awesome
Happy New Year!!!
Dan , Thanks for sharing this information and tips on woodworking projects.
Good afternoon from North Dakota..
Nicely done on video..
🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍🏻👍🏻
I did this for my shavehorse, but i didnt saw a kerfin the legs, i justs gently battoned a knife in, then took out the knife and poped the wedges in. Then axed it flush, worked a treat !
Stay warm ….Mahalo…..Happy New Year
Great tip. Thanks and God bless.
Good stuff. Happy new year 🥳
To help prevent your wedge from splitting you wood, drill a small hole at the base of your cut. Also when you see cracks in your wood cut a dutchman across to help prevent more splitting. Works even better if you have a knot that messes the surface. You can cut the outline with a knife and chisel the rest. Make the dutchman with you saw and refine with knife. You want this to be a strong wood if you are using a friction fit. Remember there is pine sap for glue. You can use saw dust instead of the charcoal if you want. Pretty much the same as mixing it with modern glues for filler.
Smart
The joy of playing in the woods and losing yourself in projects that require more work than most jobs. Thanks from MN for the great videos!
Interesting, the direction of "stress", sizing the shim or wedge, if it is too wide or long it could be fitted once in the on the kurf, a little trimming would do.
One of your best vids
Blows my mind, the number of ways you have to survive out in the wild. I imagine you'll be irritated if a global apocalypse DOESN'T happen with all those skills, never needed to save your life.
Great video 👍
My best bushcraft bench was simply a log... cut at the correct angle on each end.. to be wedged between 2 trees. Simple. Fast. Effective. Ive made paracord/stick tripods. All that silly stuff. But nothing beats simplicity and functionality.
Another great tip. Thanks
Never thought about the direction of the wedge. Great video!
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing
Happy New Year Dan!
Very much enjoyed that video. I would like to see some start-to-finish videos of those bushcraft furniture projects like that bench.
Great idea!
Brother, that is the best bench ever built.
Great information. Happy New Year Dan.
Really good watch
We carpenters call that fairy wedging, cus you can't see the wedges😂 Ta for vid🙃
Happy New Year. Another great video thank you 😊
Carpenters glue and a deck screw😮
My entire loadout/life changed when I learned of the Almighty Wedge.
Could it be possible to drill the holes in the bench all the way through, insert a leg that fits snug, but is a bit too long, and then kirf it and then insert the wedge?
Billy from Kansas.
It IS possible. But not the best choice in this situation. Sitting on that ONCE will teach that😢
If you were to ask me that wedge was too wide to begin with!!!
The whole thing is nobody asked you
Sorry jus woke up and I’m in a silly mood
If your augering the hole for a leg. Couldn't you simply split and wedge/whip the end of the leg that's above the seat.
