      I’m assuming you mean 5G rather than G5.
      There are lots of studies out there around the safety of 5G so you can pretty much pick any to show what ever stance you want.
      Whether you chose to use 5G or not is unlikely to have much of an impact on your health, as experts tend to agree it’s the transmitter towers that pose most risk rather than the devices themselves as they are many times the power of the transmitters in the devices (2-10 watts Vs a maximum of around 0.2 watts)
      Like it or not 5G is here.

    Many would like to understand this complicated subject, but it's hard to find a presentation which combines a solid understanding of the theory with the practical application to real living. This presentation is the best I found. But at times we can't see details in the slideshow being presented. And other times important subjects are too brief. For example, I'd really like to see more on the cell tower section. If you repackaged this material into a series of videos with your excellent illustrations you'd get a lot of hits. Title it: "Understanding Your Poor Cellular Reception"

    Wow that was comprehensive and I’ve ordered the AliExpress version of the all in one unit sounds just the job for us so thanks!
    Just one question though did you mean to say that the gif gaf sims allow you to buy a certain quantity of data on a sim that can be used in drips and draps perhaps over a few months as and when required? Again this would definitely suit us but couldn’t see anywhere where that was confirmed.
    Thanks again!

    To be fair, fast 3G is more than enough for most things and has a more robust signal than 4 or (definitely) 5g.

    Good video . would be interested in your roaming in Europe thoughts

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      We’re currently in South of France and using SMARTY. We burnt through the 12GB of inclusive EU mins in our unlimited plan very quickly (as we expected) but now we are just paying the £7 every 3 days to access our UK unlimited plan in EU. It’s not cheap but means we don’t have to worry about usage.
      As we’re using it to watch TV and researching our next locations, info for our videos and with 2 kids rinsing it for keeping in touch with friends at home we’re using about 45-50GB a day. But as it’s unlimited we don’t need to worry.
      Will have cost us about £50 for the 3 weeks we’re away.

    • @SandandjanetNelson
      @SandandjanetNelson ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. I was looking at RWG they back on EE and have an unlimited plan where you can use your data in EU without limiting ie same as UK 200Gb for £20/month - Thoughts??

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      @user-wk1dj7ds1w yeah looks interesting and I would be tempted to give it a try, though the plan isn’t unlimited data, only calls and texts. 200 GB a month wouldn’t be enough for us.
      I’ve never heard of RWG but the EE network in UK is good and I presume their Roaming agreement is as good as any of the other networks.
      The only thing I would note is the bundles seem to auto renew if you don’t cancel them, but I guess that is pretty normal.

    Thank you for this fantastic video, it's exactly what I needed! I run a game development company while travelling Europe, and I need the absolute fastest and most reliable connection. I regularly transfer large files and can't sit waiting for hours. If money was no object what modem and antenna would you recommend?
    I was looking at the Avtex kit which looks good, but I see there's more powerful options like the RUTX14. Would it be worth the extra money over the Avtex?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      For your use case without a doubt I would go with Starlink rather than LTE.
      LTE you are always going to have some places with no or poor coverage, it also takes the pain out roaming charges / limits.

    Really enjoyed the Stratford presentation and narrowing in on my choice now. One question popped into my head after I left... you suggested having two or three sims to put into a MiFi depending on the available service. Is there an 'app' that tells you which carrier operates the best tower to your location regardless of what sim you have in your phone?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed it! There isn't an App that I am aware of. The best option I have found is to use CellMapper.net to identify the towers in the area / which networks they are on and which bands they use. As you know from the talk this will only give an idea of performance as there are so many other things that can impact it, but will give an idea.
      Sadly nothing can tell you accurately how it will perform other than trying it, so it's very much trial and error.

    Great vid, well presented and professional. Some points I'd add: That Chinese omni is terrible, gain is abysmal when tested. MIMO is not the same as Carrier Aggregation. MIMO uses multiple antennas to get over the problem of multipath radio propagation. CA is as you say where a device is allocated resources from multiple carriers from multiple bands. Locking to a band certainly helps, however locking to a band with lower RF conditions (not signal strength I add) you can get lower data rates than leaving unlocked. All depends of course. Also FYI towers have more than 1x set of equipment per tech on them - they are divided into "sectors", like pizzas. Imagine a pizza with 3x slices of 60deg each and nothing in-between. You can (will) find yourself in the middle of 2 sectors (slices), as a result much poorer signal and data. My problem at home with a 5G 3UK site as it happens! A further away tower can be better if you are pointing directly at that site

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks glad you liked it, and for the extras input.
      I actually found the Unbranded Omni I got actually worked pretty well for me on certain bands when I tested it - the problem with non brand is you never know which one you're going to get. You can see it in this review here. th-cam.com/video/s4nNAjV0oRM/w-d-xo.html
      Love your "Pizza slice" description - you can see them on the cell mapper maps in the section on towers where I point out that your nearest tower is not necessarily the best one.

    Thank you so much for explain all the terms and figures quoted when looking for a WiFi solution. I think I will go with the ZTE MF971V LTE cat 6 router. Think the best place for it would be on to the front of a pop up roof of a VW California in a waterproof box held on with some Velcro.
    This would give a height gain when opened but would not be in the centre of the roof as recommended in your video. Would this work ok at this angle? Thanks again.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, that is a good choice for a simple yet effective solution. The roof Angle should not impact the performance and as I am assuming the roof is fibreglass rather than metal so no issue with ground plan effect, or metal reducing the strength of a signal.
      Getting it high is the best thing to do, so sounds ideal!

    • @jsmith1545
      @jsmith1545 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ExploreVanUK Thanks for such a quick response. On the California's the roof is aliminum?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem, I wouldn't worry too much about that - ideally the best position would be where the unit gets a 360 "view" without the metal blocking it. So on the front edge of the roof so that when the roof is up it is at the highest point and with a clear all round view would be my thinking.
      You may find that using a sucker (something like this amzn.to/3Dy5E5o) to mount the box, rather than velcro may be helpful, as then you could try different positions depending on where you are parked, as in some cases having the roof "reflecting" the signal may actually be beneficial all depending on the direction the mast is from the van.
      Hope that makes sense!

    Amazing vlogs, they have (I think) helped me choose the correct kit for our situation ... we have a touring van which is mainly used in one location with 2bars of 4G, both O2 & EE on an Iphone Xs. Having watched lots of your vlogs we're thinking .... RUTX 12 plus MIMO 3 - 17 for streaming Netflix etc, what do you think ?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - glad they are useful!
      That would be a great choice of kit, its worth remembering that you will only get the benefit of the dual modems if you have two active data subscriptions (2 sim cards) if you are not planning to do that you can save a bit by going for the RUTX11 which only has 1 modem but is still Cat 6 and can switch between networks if needed.
      And if you are not bothered about the GPS / and dual sim slots, you could go with the RUT360 which is still Cat6 which is less again.
      If you want the best 4G single modem the RUTX14 is Cat 12 so you could get even better performance depending on what bands are available.
      When it comes to antennas if you are not moving around much / at all you might be bext going for a directional antenna.
      Our video this week includes one - its only Mimo 2x2 so you would need 2 of them for the RUTX12 / RUTX14. But only one for the RUTX11 or RUT360. Its not released until Monday but you can have a sneak peak here, th-cam.com/video/Q_VgdPv4y2E/w-d-xo.html
      We'll also be testing out the QuWireless QuMax directional enclosure that is available for the teltoinika range so it might be worth looking at that too.

      Where would I be without knowledgable, altruistic people like yourself .....wasting money and buying with crossed fingers probably. Many thanks for the reply, I can now rest assured that I've got the best kit!
      Please DON'T tell me that the router will need to be configuered for best performance !!!@@ExploreVanUK

    • @ianthomason8563
      @ianthomason8563 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to be a pest but I'm 75 and somewhat limited in this field. Apparently the RUTX12 modems are set to failover and not to operate together, this has to be set in the configuration menu .... I would rather face a Samurai than try to do this !
      So if I got a RUTX11, as you suggest, this is only Mimo 2x2, would this not dramatically lessen the performance than using the RUTX12 with a Mimo 3-17.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries Ian!
      Setting up the modems in the RUTX12 is pretty easy you just switch them to "Load Balance" rather than Failover, but you do need two active data sim subscriptions.
      However, if you weren't planning to run them in this way, I would say the RUTX12 is not bested suited to you. The configuration of the RUTX12 is 2 x Cat 6 Modems each with 2x2 MiMo connections. It is not a 4x4 Mimo connection for each modem.So if you are only planning to use one of the modems there is no benefit of paying the extra for the Mimo 3-17.
      The RUTX11 or the RUT360 both have single Cat6 modems with 2x2 Mimo connections which would perform the same as a single modem on the RUTX12.
      If you wanted to benefit from 4x4 Mimo connection and the Mimo 3-17 Antenna then the RUTX14 which is a single Cat 12 modem with 4x4 Mimo connection would be the best choice. However you will only benefit from the advantage of Cat 12 with 4x4 Vs Cat6 with 2x2 if there are multiple Carrier Aggregatable bands available at the location - so you may find that anything Cat 6 or above actually perfroms exactly the same as they connecting to the maximum number of bands available.
      If you are going to be static more than mobile and are not planning to use the more technical configurations available on the Teltonika routers you may actually be better off with one of the home LTE routers such as the Huawei B535-232 which is Cat 7 and has 2x2 Mimo external antenna connectors.
      I hope that makes sense and helps.
