I drive past this theater almost everyday on western blvd. Just like most of the old theaters in Los Angeles it’s been turned into a scam Ecuadorian church or a Korean swap meet full of cheap Chinese products. I’ll have to crank up this show tomorrow when I drive by. Great quality show. 10 years before I got on the bus. On the road again with Garcia singing lead. I’m use to Bob singing it.
Nice score, Elaine. The first eight tracks are very very early, whether or not 2/25/66 is the date (there's dispute about that date and venue). The band is playing better than any such early tape I've heard, really on top of their game, such as it was, and the job of taping is primo -- presumably Bear's. JerryBase lists a Schoolgirl > You Don't Love Me > Schoolgirl for the Longshoreman's Hall Trips Festival 4/22/66. It's easy to hear what Jerry meant about Pigpen being the lead musician to start with.
It's sea turtle nesting season. and "my" beach is nursery.... Today I witnessed the hatching of the chicks leaving the eggs and heading to the sea. I had seen it before, with the turtle preservation project. they release the cubs. but today was the first time I saw it happen, naturally. 💜😍☮️🐢🥚🌊
Hey Little One is as iconic as any Dead song ever was, what a great one here! I always ask . . Where is that ONE recording of He Was a Friend of Mine that's up tempo? you know the one where Phil's bass is actually like swinging on swings, or riding on the merry-go-'round? I love that rendition. Goin round-&-Round.... It's either Trooper's or Avalon... '66 of course.
Vague recollection late 60s with friends having bought their first album living 1.5 hrs from Chicago saw the GD 4-5 hour concert place smelling like sweet burning leaves...burnt fingers as joint passed as one of Chicago's finest walked past - Damn Saw them in the 80s last time in Eugene 1993. Long strange one Thanks for the trip, Elaine 🧸🌹✌️♥️
It's crazy how young Bob. We're looks in this picture. I think he's what like 1718 somewhere around there. My favorite band ever love them. I think I saw them last at Knickerbocker. Arena. Albany, New York, sometime in 93 I was still in high school. It was pretty freaking cool. Thank you for the good vibes, young lady

They should have played it more. It would have been nice to hear this in the early seventies.

Excelente som, nesta época, era apenas um menino correndo de calças curtas e sem camisas, onde só havia um mundo de felicidades !
Thanks ! Very good recording for the era
Super crisp!

Love Pigpen's soulful vocals and harp playing in the early years. I love every iteration of GD but this era is so fresh and straightfoward.
Solid show. I really love early Dead. Jerry is so electric ☝️
Muy pero muy bueno..excelente

Notice how the real Pigpen played good harp, unlike the faker Warner Brothers advertised for who couldn't cut it.

Read the electric koolaid book about 7 times now haaha! So he was at this one in spirit
Keep being awesome though
Hey little one
Really interesting to me how this early GD with Pigpen reminds me of Canned Heat. Likely the harp, and the times.
What I wanna know is where did Jerry get those pants and who's the go-go girl?
I noticed her too haha shes prolly 8 miles high right there

Balm to the soul, actually. The Dead cut their teeth playing for people on acid, and even their pure blues stuff mellows out the anxieties.

Thank you for posting these songs. Nice blues based early stuff when the Dead still had balls. That later hippie stuff was only good on acid.
Really?
Well that’s just like your opinion, man. Some rise, some fall, some climb to get to Terrapin.
Whos play the harp while pig sings?
Jerry is singing falsetto and sounds like Pig. Pig always plays the harp.
I learned how to play Harmonica from Pigpen with the grateful dead
I saw them at the Capitol theater in Portchester, New York, 1970
Pigpen was the blues player. He was the boss man of the Grateful Dead Jerry was just a guitar player. Pigpen ran the show.
When pigpen died, that was the end of a time for that was wonderful !
