This was one of the best podcasts so far 😂 when the whole gang is present you KNOW its gonna be awesome. Also i just love how Dave always makes Rob laugh those are the best moments, Dave has such a great sense of humor.
42:02 I agree with Rob when he said the difference of a JRPG and a RPG comes down to the style of a game and not just where the game was made. Such an interesting topic for debate! As always, great podcast. I’m so looking forward to the next one.
#PodSquad The utter chaos that this podcast descended into during the "before we go" section really just sums up what I love about you guys 😂 I was listening while out walking and was getting some very strange looks as I couldn't help laughing! Can't wait for the next one ☺️
I love the positivity from PlayStation Access but I’m holding my breath about this Gollum game because I don’t want to see them hype something that isn’t up to snuff.
@@farmpunk_dan I think if the game was of any quality they would have done a stream of it by now. The game would have been tailor made for a Rob stream.
#PodSquad I just wanted to take the opportunity and say thank you to the PlayStation Access team! I've been playing catch up on the podcasts for a few weeks now, listening to Halloween tales, the detailed interviews, Christmas joy, New Year promises, Valentines quizzes and all else in between, and in doing so, I've felt a renewal for my love towards gaming, and I can wholeheartedly say it is down to the enthusiasm, the excitement and the unrelenting passion shown by all those involved in bringing the news, updates and laughs to our earholes!! You all are the flame that has reignited this dimming lantern, burning brighter now than it has done for a few good years, and I thank you immensely for that! Here's to a fantastic 2nd half of 2023, here's to more harmonious singing for Comments of the Week, and here's to the Playstation Access Team, cheers!!
Yeah I knew Rob was going to be super excited, the only other person who would have been that excited would have been Hollie. rpgs have always been my favorite games. Also when Rob sums up a JRPG he does it perfectly and is 100% correct, they are the best rpgs too.
#podsquad There was a interesting interview with Yoshi-P the other week, when promoting FF16, where he talked about the term JRPG and how most Japanese developers found it very offensive when it first came to the forefront cause it was like they were sectioning off Japanese games and that they weren't good enough to be a RPG like the rest of the world.
I am so glad you brought this up. I never knew this until the Yoshi-P interview with SkillUp. It sounds like many Japanese developers felt the term discriminated against them because it was used to make fun of them for making a certain type of RPG and some in the west thought Japanese devs could only make that type of RPG because they were from Japan. It might be time for a new term or new terms (Dragon Quest-like RPG, Persona-like RPG, Nier-like RPG). We already use Souls-like or Soulsbourne. We can afford more nuance.
I saw that as well, so it was interesting to hear Rob discuss how, to him, 'JRPG' was a term describing a distinct type of game, a style that could be imitated by non-Japanese studios. Maybe ' Final Fantasy-like' could be a decent alternative title - although considering how the games can adjust things, you might have to be more specific and say 'Final Fantasy *IX*-like'
I really love finding out about all the lore of an RPG world and the character backgrounds. However, I don't want to have to read all those details up. I rather want to have it somewhere included into the storyline, even if it's some side mission, than something you just happen to find, click on and then have pages or codex entries to read through. I've watched book and lore discussions on Dragon Age and I often feel like I'm missing 90% of the lore that is discussed just because I never read those sheets of paper that are just lying around in the landscape of the games.
#PodSquad I normally only listen to the podcast through my phone and don't see the youtube video, but this morning I was genuinely laughing out loud when the anteater bit came up while walking to work. First thing I did when arriving at the office was to watch the last 10 minutes of this video so I could see your reactions and be able to comment. I was in stitches once again, this is pure comedy gold!
For me an RPG should have that one best weapon which you can get right before going after the final boss which needs you to do many different things to collect all the pieces of it
Lost odyssey needs to either be remade or remastered for the ps5 absolute fantastic jrpg that would've done numbers under the sony umbrella instead of Microsoft
For me the best RPGs are the Baldurs Gate style games such as Pillars, Divinity and BG itself, so its great that they're all on console and that they play lovely with a controller.
#PodSquad I agree with Rob there's more to a JRPG than just being made in Japan. It's more like a way of life, the style the story everything contributes to it being classed as a JRPG.
One role playing game I played that I really enjoyed is Fallout New Vegas, there's so much to see and do in the Mojave wasteland and alot of interesting characters to interact with.
Mass Effect (1,2,3) are my favorite rpgs, maybe even just favorite games in general. But I never ever change Shepards face, if the cover art has a dude or dudette, I will play as them
POD SQUAD! I am shocked-shocked I say!- that there was talk of contemporarily set RPGs and Rosie did not mention Like A Dragon! Somewhere, Ichiban is crying like he just failed a certificate exam.
Anyone else initially think Dave had finished WRITING a book with the way he originally said it? I was like "Wait, Dave's been writing a book!?" 😄I used to read Stephen King and Richard Laymon religiously, and also think their short stories are brilliant. The whole Before We Go section and the Actimel eating ant-eaters had me in hysterics as much as Rob! I love how chaotic and hilarious this section of the podcast always ends up.
I love the options of RPGs. Divinity Original Sin 2, and coming soon Baldurs Gate 3 let's you fight NPCs randomly without them having a clue. An NPC can be minding their own business and you can delete their health bar before the fight even starts. You can also rob anybody when they're just walking around. So much fun.
"Where in the country is it?" "It's...south." 😄 That was just the first of many, many laughs throughout the Actimeleater section, Ash is brilliant storyteller
I would class GTA Online as an RPG to be honest. As you get to create your character and be literally anyone you want. Bank robber? ✅️ Drug kingpin? ✅️ Arms dealer? ✅️ Racer? ✅️ Import/export Supercar salesman?✅️ the list is endless. I don't think it started out that way but has turned into one as time has gone on
#PodSquad I love you guys so much! You always make me smile and laugh everyday. Your content is spectacular and never disappoints. To be doing this podcast is everything as i listen to you lot on the journey to work and back home and even just on days out. Never stop doing what you all do!
My goodness. Living in Australia I had to Google what Actimel was. Might start calling you Tashngent huh, Ash? 😉 Nah that was amazing guys! Been waiting to hear your combined thoughts on RPGs for a while too, loved it!
#PODSquad #VODSquad Y'all were a crack-up in this episode, even with the Gollum family coming forth. I giggled so much - even y'all's reactions to each other's Gollums had me giggling - that I missed some of what y'all were saying. 😆 Do have a question: I heard there was a Layers of Fear Remake in the offing. I think the demo is still available. Will the official Layers of Fear Remake be making a Hallowstream appearance??🤔 Thank you all. Still subscribed.
BOW is Bio Organic Weapon rather than Baby Of War. Have to say the RPG = Robert Person Games is epic. It was meant to be. I agree the JRPG is Japanese style games rather than games made in Japan. Great Podcast.
#podsquad you all are so fun to listen to and watch. love your content!. @dave Read The Dark Tower by stephen King. soooooooo goooood. @Rob cannot wait for the friday features to make a return just so we can add to the MGS board! Also, I cannot wait to play a Robert Pearson Game!
#PodSquad I spotted Ash rocking out to Trash Boat on the big screens at Slam Dunk, what was your favourite band there? Mine was Enter Shikari, their stage production was incredible
This was one of the best podcasts so far 😂 when the whole gang is present you KNOW its gonna be awesome. Also i just love how Dave always makes Rob laugh those are the best moments, Dave has such a great sense of humor.

Been watching Access for eight or nine years and that Anteater nonsense was by far the hardest I've ever seen Rob laugh.
RPG - Rob Pearson Games....... this is just outstanding 😂
#PodSquad The utter chaos that this podcast descended into during the "before we go" section really just sums up what I love about you guys 😂 I was listening while out walking and was getting some very strange looks as I couldn't help laughing! Can't wait for the next one ☺️
I will definitely never forget the moment Rob read my comment in Gollum’s voice! 😆
Thanks! ❤
Rob's Gollum impression is legendary! The Gollum game unfortunately is not.
yikes 😂 I think no one is surprised about it being so rough though
You know the game is rough when not even Rob has a good thing to say about it 😂
I love the positivity from PlayStation Access but I’m holding my breath about this Gollum game because I don’t want to see them hype something that isn’t up to snuff.
@@farmpunk_dan I think if the game was of any quality they would have done a stream of it by now. The game would have been tailor made for a Rob stream.
The game is literally a 0/10. I cant belive how bad it is
Sethi-Rob was right there Ash!! 😂
Sephirob?
Could have even had Barob or Rob XIII
Absolutely love this show😂 the chemistry between you all is so good to watch
#PodSquad I just wanted to take the opportunity and say thank you to the PlayStation Access team! Absolutely loved this episode. So many laughs. Thanks for that.
Also BOW is short for Bio-Organic Weapon.
ROB PEARSON GAME - will now forever think this whenever I see or hear “RPG”. 😂 Perfect!
Robs nicknames are always Rob-ish
4:07 Sephirob was right there! 😂
I absolutely love RPGs!
Among my favorites are:
• Dragon's Dogma
• Elden Ring
• Dark Souls
• The Witcher III
• Kingdoms of Armalur
love the community you guys have built here. thanks legends ❤
14:11"He wants to grab Frodo's ring!"
...he does what now, Ash?
Can they please do a special where they let Alex show us his skills?!
Dave is by far the guy with the most sense of humor in the team. Lol at the Pablo the anteater comment, among others.

I enjoyed this episode of "Ash's Anteater Analysis "!!
For me the best RPGs are the Baldurs Gate style games such as Pillars, Divinity and BG itself, so its great that they're all on console and that they play lovely with a controller.
Rob fighting for his life during the Actimel talk was everything 😂
I would have called Rob: ROUD! Rob + Cloud (FF7) + the fact that when he gets upset, he shouts loudly too.
#PodSquad
I agree with Rob there's more to a JRPG than just being made in Japan. It's more like a way of life, the style the story everything contributes to it being classed as a JRPG.
I can't think of names for Ash & Rosie, but
SephiROB &
DAVEinity: Original Sin
One role playing game I played that I really enjoyed is Fallout New Vegas, there's so much to see and do in the Mojave wasteland and alot of interesting characters to interact with.
Pinnacle of the fallout series tbh. Obsidian did an outstanding job with it
Cleaning and decorating my room is one of my fav things to do in Persona 5.
I can’t stop laughing about the Actimel, I’m crying here!
Ash is clearly Galadriel with the ring (at least as the reigning queen of ps access)
This episode 🤣👌 I needed this. Loved every part of it 💙💙
On short stories, Dave and Ash, I recommend Octavia Butler’s Bloodchild and other stories.
Rob's RPG name can be Sephirob.
Mass Effect (1,2,3) are my favorite rpgs, maybe even just favorite games in general. But I never ever change Shepards face, if the cover art has a dude or dudette, I will play as them
Robert Serkis Pearson!
The comment of the week part is the best thing to came out of from the Gollum game this week
Seriously you went with Aerob instead of Sephirob?! I expected better of you Ash :P
POD SQUAD! I am shocked-shocked I say!- that there was talk of contemporarily set RPGs and Rosie did not mention Like A Dragon! Somewhere, Ichiban is crying like he just failed a certificate exam.
The Category 1 is about their extinction level I think, so probably when they kept mentioning it they meant it was very endangered.
Ash's Gollum trying to imitate cookie monster 🤣🤣
@1:01:11 this is by far the dirtiest joke and I'm loving it 😂
Anyone else initially think Dave had finished WRITING a book with the way he originally said it? The Anteater chat was strong this episode. Much recommend.
Just to drop it here. We do have different names for types of rpgs we have arpg, crpg, ttrpg ect.
"Where in the country is it?"
"It's...south." 😄
That was just the first of many, many laughs throughout the Actimeleater section, Ash is brilliant storyteller
My introductions to RPGs are Breath of fire 3, Wild Arms 2 and Suikoden 2. Precious, precious gaming memories.
You were right in the pronunciation, it is drew-si-la's
”I really liked the episode where Ash talked about an anteater for a looooong time”
I would class GTA Online as an RPG to be honest. As you get to create your character and be literally anyone you want. Sephirob come on ash it was right there 😂
To be fair, Ash- Frodo is awesome in the books. I do like Elijah Wood's take, but he was much older and wiser in Tolkien's original vision.
Robs RPG name should have been SephiROB!
Skyrim is like the ultimate RPG. Especially with mods. The gift that keeps on giving.
When it comes to RPG names, what came to mind for me for Rob is Sephirob
Rob is excellent!!
My goodness. Living in Australia I had to Google what Actimel was. Might start calling you Tashngent huh, Ash? 😉 Nah that was amazing guys! Been waiting to hear your combined thoughts on RPGs for a while too, loved it!
From what i remember ant eaters are almost blind n they can slash u apart with those claws if they feel threatened or disturbed
i really appreciate Rob’s defense of Boromir
Sephirob was right there.....
How is Rob’s name not Sephirob?
It needs to be called Persona 2 and Strange Journey
Finally the gangs all together 😊😊😊😊
Sephirob!!
(From a fellow Rob)
So excited for this episode ❤
Can't believe they didn't come up with Sephirob.
Dave always reminds me of an otter, in a good way
#PODSquad #VODSquad Y'all were a crack-up in this episode, even with the Gollum family coming forth. Hello, you’ve caught me discussing “What makes the perfect RPG?”
BOW is Bio Organic Weapon rather than Baby Of War. Have to say the RPG = Robert Person Games is epic. It was meant to be. I agree the JRPG is Japanese style games rather than games made in Japan. Great Podcast.
Samwise is no sidekick, he is the real hero of the Fellowship.
There is a very small chance you see this, bit the correct pun for Rob would be Sephi-Rob !!
Boromir is hero.
That's my only comment
It ain't the size of the sword, it's how you swing it. 😅
#podsquad. Ash......Rob should have been sephirob. It was on a plate with fancy dressing! 😂
Rosie's Gollum genuinely might be better than Robs !
i love rpg's , one of my favourite type of game
#podsquad Rob's RPG name should be "Roboud Striverson" 😂
Yeah nothing wrong with Boromir, he wants to protect his people and is hence easily suggestive to the ring. He is very human and dies with honour.
I wonder if vaatividya would be willing to come on the podcast for some souls lore talk
He wants to grab Frodo’s ring!!!! 😂 😂 😂
#PodSquad I spotted Ash rocking out to Trash Boat on the big screens at Slam Dunk, what was your favourite band there? Mine was Enter Shikari, their stage production was incredible
#vodsquad.... "ingredients" sephiroth arm.. robs Friday feature was in my head and how everyone's opinions the 7 RPG stages
5 mins in listening to those less than stellar names (sorry ash), Mr Pearson should have definitely been The Elder Scrolls IV ROBlivion
My brain doesn’t understand how when doing final fantasy we didn’t land on Sephirob
Sephirob?
I can't roleplay a character. I'm just myself in a fictional world everytime.
A JRPG is an Japanese game where damage numbers pop up lol
SephiROB was right there 🤣
Roby Weapon
Barrob or Robret
Rob XIII
Sephirrob
Rofus
Professor Robo
I think thats enough. xD
Sephirob!!
Ash. Could probably make a video of what she did on her week off and people would watch it just saying . That goes for pretty much anyone
