Unless you are my horse, she loves her rugs. Nothing better than a warm, cozy winter coat. And she keeps them clean, what a great horse. I remember the first time I put a blanket on her, she was like: "Well this keeps me warm and it is comftorble, please do not ever remove it again!"
My oldest mare will magically get her blanket completely off her body but have it wrapped around her neck like a scarf....and wear it like that all day. Can't figure out why.....or how....

when i was in elementary school there was this girl named Brady who always pretended to be a horse and when she was angry she would scrape her feet and make noises XDXD
Went into one mare's stall to strip her for the trainer. She was an ASB 5 Gaited mare with tailset on. Her Baker blanket, was hanging from her head at poll. Tailset was completely undisturbed. Not a buckle undone, not a feather out of place.
These episodes are the highlight of my emails!!! I crack up because I do the same thing to my friends. I bite them, paw at them, etc....its so much fun.

The horse I'm leasing toor the whole back off of her fly sheet... now she is able to get her tail stuck in a little gap that ripped open when she tore of the other part...
I have my horse's blanketing down to a science! LOL. Fortunately, he likes them and never tries to take them off, but I sure have seen many who did. I only have a couple close front blankets, but he sticks his nose through and tosses his head up to throw the blanket on himself. It's pretty funny. The only thing he HATES is static electricity.... omg, he tenses up completely when I am removing a blanket in winter that causes static... esp since he has Cushings so his coat is long and very static-y. I always feel so bad for him, but he's such a good boy.
My horse's blanket is so ruined right now. The legstraps broke so those are gone. There's a giant rip over his shoulder. The padding is coming out by the tail flap and one of the front buckles broke! It's a disaster. He doesn't even do anything to his blankets. It's just nails and other horses! But I don't want to buy a new blanket for this year because winter (should be) almost over. He really only needs it to keep him dry since he's half Clydesdale and loves the cold. As soon as it warms up that blanket is going in the trash. And then one of my mini donkeys has an xxl dog coat that bunches up on her neck and she's scared of the Velcro. I am dreading when I have to blanket my other mini for the first time. She doesn't have a blanket this year but next year she will and I have no idea how she'll react.
I am soooo thankful that I don't have to blanket a horse. I no longer show, ride for pleasure. Live in Florida and don't need a barn much less a blanket. I grew up in the northeast where there was cold and snow but found out that the horses HATED being blanketed or stalled, even in the cold. I am so sorry for those of you who show and have to put a blanket on a horse cause they are such little escape artists and the videos of them tearing them up are priceless LOL

This is how animals think. Even as large as horses they don't trust anything new. Birds are the same. Put a new toy in their play area and they avoid that place for months , unless you put them there and show them how to play. (eyes rolling) Animals make our lives exciting.
Blankets are useless and I hate it when people put their horses 2 or more blankets just because they are cold...horses aren't humans they don't feel cold the way we do

Very funny, however, horses don't need blankets. Unless you trim away their natural protection from the cold, which would just be selfish.
Blankets are useless and I hate it when people put their horses 2 or more blankets just because they are cold...horses aren't humans they don't feel cold the way we do
