    That’s always a great feeling to get that first start. These stand-alone aren’t for everybody. But not everybody wants to pay a big bag of cash for a plug and play solution either. 😀

    Edit #1 @4:16 Crimps have shown to last longer in locations susceptible to vibration. You'll want to ensure that your solder joints are well insulated or (GlueLineHeatshrinked) to minimized vibrations to the joints and ensure a connection that lasts. If you do decide to do crimps later on you'll want to use copper crimps/terminals to prevent corrosion in the future. @5:25 Agreed.
    Edit#2 lol @8:37 ish. Yes for coils you would want at least (a minimum) 18AWG wire to be able to handle operating them without overheating the wiring and potentially causing damage to surrounding wires.. based on the coils you use, they may come with an AWG recommended size. an interesting sidenote though is that if you have all 18AWG wires crimping/soldering together to one wire for the feed, you would want that single wire to be larger than the individual 18awg wires as if you think of it it now needs to feed 4 or 6 or 8 coils based on your engine and thus that single wire will need to have enough of a Gauge in order to supply or feed the individual branches.
    Lol so much typing hahah

    Can you do this with the stock ECU? I'd imagine just routing the wires from the stock coil pack plug to each coil but then again I haven't looked at any wiring diagrams or pinouts so I don't know how that plug works

    Did you happen to switch to COP because the original coil is a dumb coil? Did you ever get the car to start with the factory coil?

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good question. I did I switch to the new ones because #1 my old ones were not sparking (broken cables) #2 the speeduino works better with smart coils. It only sends the signal. That way I can use sequential firing. #4 finally for the looks.
      I unfortunately did not make it work with the oem but I believe if you only pair up the signals with the firing order since there are only two signal wires it should work fine

    • @jorgerios1029
      @jorgerios1029 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarModsGarage thank you. I tried using the factory coil yesterday. Unfortunately it did not work, come to find out these are considered to be 'dumb' coils and as a result, they would require an external igniter to work. Luckily, I did not fry my Speeduino. Word of advice to anyone who reads this, ensure NOT to connect a dumb coil directly to the Speeduino without an igniter, you could ruin your new ECU. Time to go with a COP setup for me as well. I'll be going with a wasted spark as I'm doing a PnP unit that I can swap out with the factory PCM thank you for all the help so far!

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jorgerios1029 hmmm i guess the igniter is inside the ecu then. Eclipse ECU does a lot of stuff. You will need an external voltage regulator (I have a video on that) otherwise the battery will not get charged.
      Not sure how the ecu would fry without the igniter since ecu send signal out. I would think worst case it would fry the coil pack not the ecu but better safe then sorry. On my other build I fried 4 out of 6 smart coils testing them from the ecu .
      By the way every coil that hass less than 3 wires are dump. Smart coil usually has 4 wires ( pos, neg, sig, sig back) the ecu only care about sig so it's out signal to the coil. I would think that on the eclipse the two wires apart from the power would take the signal. I guess not 🥺.

    • @jorgerios1029
      @jorgerios1029 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CarModsGarage according to what I've read, it seems like some dumb coils will send the high current output back via the signal wires without an igniter. This is why they don't recommend wiring them up directly to the ECU.
      That's a really good tip to know, the number of wires on the coil, thank you!

    Hi CarModsGarage, quick question as I will be running this coils on my Speeduino application, do you wire the signal cable from the coils to the Speeduino controler directly? is there a need for inline resistor or something?
    Thanks, best regards
    Eduardo.

    • @CarModsGarage
      @CarModsGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't add anything. I only wire the individual coils as I show on my video straight into the ECU.

    • @CarModsGarage

    • @byronap5814
      @byronap5814 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on the board you are using. Sometimes you will actually need to replace the built in resistor with a lower value. 0.4.4 has 10 ohm which is perfect (r8s need 10-15ohm), some others are 100-150 ohm which is too much.
