    Finally! A sensible truck camper. A properly lighter weight unit that is only a one or two step upgrade from a canopy with a mattress in it. It’s got a space to sleep, nuc your chow, chill your beer or soda, and a place to deposit yesterdays chow. And you don’t need a Kenworth to carry it.

    Small camper with everything you need and nothing you don’t, cirrus 620. 6 foot floor plan, Amish cabinets, cassette toilet, north/south cab over bed, alde heating and hot water system. It’s like camping in a small lap of luxury. 👍

      I'm sorry but a slide in camper that costs $30,000 is something I can't wrap my head around... They seem nice inside but that is just a crazy price (and the one's I looked at were "used" at that price)

    This looks like it would make a good camper for a solo traveler optioned with the A/C, MaxxAir fan, solar and the Dometic cooler. I like that they used an aluminum frame instead of wood as it should hold up a littler better over time.

    • @stevewainwright3344

      Yeah, but if your goiing to need AC, Then your going to need 30 amps and that means staying in an RV park or a campground with electric. Which makes a truck camper kind of a waste of money. Since you can have a lot more room in a different kind of camper for the same money. Like a popup tent camper. Way more room.

    • @peckerpeter2078
      @peckerpeter2078 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely good for solo trips 2 max. Get rid of microwave and install high efficiency window AC using 500watts max. Substitute the closet for a shower then that would a sweet camper. Super compact park anywhere with excellent MPG.
      Without a shower or commode kind of hard to justify getting one, used Motorhome seems a better fit.

    One of my friends lives in one like this with her husband. She let me look inside. There was a shower of sorts where the table came off, a little sink, a mini fridge & a big ol bunk in the top. It's sitting on a 3/4 ton dodge. They're camp hosts in Colorado for the summer. They have the life!

    I met an older Asian man clear out in the middle of nowhere Eastern Oregon who had one of the these on the back of a Toyota pickup. I asked if I could take a look inside. He had that thing PACKED. He had a solar panel on top hooked up to a lithium battery. Inside he had a little propane hot plate to cook on, a little bar type sink with a hand pump faucet, a 7 gallon water tank, one of those portable battery operated fridges that look like a cooler, etc. I think he built his own cabinetry for all this stuff. He was only about 5' 6" tall but he seemed to be very comfortable in his small camper. He said the truck handled it fine. He was a nice guy and spent time explaining all the features he installed.

VERY low power draw for AC or heat (pump). Plenty of BTUs for something this small. Another option is EcoFlow system of solar generator and their portable heat pump. These are true "weekender" type units for short hunting trips, and other types of shorter stays at various events or places of interest. Not sure about the crapper though if you've got two or more persons using it. Gonna have to do some outside activity or sitting while the odorous, noxating, volcanic gases dissapate into the fan and up into our climate challenged skies.

    Nice! I was unaware of these. all aluminum and priced well below most anything else that a half ton might carry. I still need to look at how they option things. But one immediate criticism is the microwave. Dont bother. They didnt provide a sink, water tanks, range, etc. The microwave seems like a waste of space since you are going to have to come up with space for the other stuff. (I now see there is an XLS that has some of the other stuff)
    A suggestion for you, not-truck-camper-guy: always try to list or mention the Center of Gravity measurement. along with weight and length, its one of the most critical measurements. Pedantic: the COG line has to be forward of the centerline of the rear axle of the truck. on the smallest truck beds that can be less than 30" - and yes being over just by an inch *matters* (there's a joke in there...). failing that measurement eliminates a whole lot of small campers that might otherwise squeeze in on payload and size.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ty for the CoG mention. I post the specs I can find from mfgs. It’s amazing how often even basics are lacking though

      @@JoshtheRVNerd After I posted that I looked at the mfr website and they all list a COG of 33". On my shorty bed I calculate the distance to the centerline of my rear axle to be 30 +/- and inch. having the COG behind that by 3" even before putting gear inside the camper can mean there is a fair amount of weight behind the axle. Bad thing. That dimension is why IM also looking at trailers even though I would prefer a camper. #themoreyouknow :D

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's probably for the legalities behind rollover safety... If you put a tall payload in a truck it will roll over if you do the wrong moves.
      Larger trucks are not in the same class as 1/2 tons or less and don't have the stability control systems.
      It's a legal thing to keep the manufacturer out of litigation. I would put one of these on my 1/2 ton truck, it's got to be the safest thing out there besides a home made foam camper.

    • @steveoh9838
      @steveoh9838 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@volvo09 I respectfully disagree its a litigation thing. Owners overload their trucks all the time. That being said, a slide in camper and an uniformed consumer would spell disaster even before occupants and cargo. Many, many years ago we tested a 1200 lb slide in on our then new 2000 GM half ton. We turned around after about 2 blocks. It was extremely sketchy. I added air bags and rear anti-sway bars a couple weeks before we were scheduled to pick up the camper thinking safety all the way. Was beyond sketchy and never looked back. Tow behind all day long.
