    What's so heartwarming about the scene is the fact that the lights turned on right after the message had been shown to both of them. Despite the 12,000 years that passed. Humanity didn't just remember the two girls who saved them, but they were now unified enough to have everyone in earth turn off their lights at the same time, just to give their two heroes the "welcome back" that they rightfully deserve.

      @@ShinkuDragonI don't think the language itself survived, but the phrase did just so they can welcome back their heroes no matter how long it takes. Cause I think the words aren't even really spelled correctly, the last character is backwards, but it still sends the message.

      That's the promise Jung made to Noriko before escaping. After returning to Earth, she became the first President of the Galactic Federation. After becoming president, she set up a mission to rescue Gunbuster, but it failed and she went into cold sleep. The facility where she was sleeping was discovered in Episode 6 of Diebuster. And when Noriko returned, Jung kept her promise. 'Welcome Home'

    In 100 years when all of the shovelware CGI mecha anime of the 2010s has been forgotten and exist as a footnote in an old wiki archive at most, the cultural critics and historians are STILL going to be talking about Gunbuster. Sometime in the real 22nd century, someone is going to show this series on a reproduction of an old early 2000s blu-ray player, and people will be moved to tears by its warmth, sincerity and spirit all over again.
    This anime is deeply meaningful in my life. I saw it shortly after losing my own father and at a time when my personal problems and the state of the world seemed just beyond hopeless. I was on antidepressants and every day was a struggle for the will to go to school, to take care of myself, to even get out of bed.
    And somehow, this silly, outdated, fanservice-laden 1980s anime about robots fighting space bugs inspired me to have hope for the future. That my life isn't meaningless. That I'm not undeserving of anyone caring about me. This is animation at its most uplifting.

      Amen! That needs to be included in the future thesis for this series.
      We're never going to see the kind of ovas with the high production values and the real experimental stuff that we saw back in the '80s and '90s. We're never even going to see the ongoing series like Sailor Moon or Kimagure Orange Road that we saw back in the '80s and '90s.
      Everything now is just made for shonen jump, where it's all just like "madcap quirky characters lol" and it's all just some kind of weird variant of Naruto or One Piece or whatever. This is what anime is supposed to fucking look like!

    1:44 Makes my heart so happy! I only got to know Noriko for 6 episodes, but to see her so happy after ALL that she’s been through. What a ride! Like with Akiba Maid Wars, the only complaint I have is that I wished both series should have been longer because of how well they were written. Then again, maybe it was part of their charm, short but sweet.

      I thought I wanted a second season of Akiba Maid War while watching it but the ending was so good that I changed my mind.
      I would be OK with an in-between movie or ONA showing more of their regular cafe antics, at the most.

    When I listen to the music entitled "Beyond the River of Time", it reminds me of a combination of the drama, space, classic, and fantasy theme.
    More original compared from a later design concept by Studio Ghibli (Laputa) and Sunrise (Gaogaigar) combined together.

    This is amazing,
    Having to know that everything they fought for could had been gone. The desperation seeing that 12000 years have passed, that moment is just too deep.
    “Why did we sacrifice for humanity? When we didnt even have a chance to live as a human.” All the people they loved, loved them, remembered them, were all perished. What was the point.
    That could be the logical ending without any further explanation is needed. Hell, how many times we almost killed ourselves or annihilated by natural disasters.
    We are glad the writer gave us a happy ending.

    Back in those days, Gainax had a rather simple mode of operation:
    Make a show sort of as a quick cash grab, halfway through, get carried away with cool ideas, end up with some super ambitious new scale to the project and almost bankrupt the company during the later stages of production.
    Gunbuster started out as a somewhat goofy show with schoolgirls doing push-ups in Mechas during PE in school and it ends with this glorious, emotional and satisfying scene.
    Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water got a bit wonky at the end as well and NGE went completely bonkers at the end with 2 episodes being nothing but a clusterfuck slideshow of brainfuckery. And it was glorious.
    Hate to say it, but I feel like Gainax sorta lost its edge over time, they were best when their shows traditionally almost ruined the company and the crew sort of just turned it around with guts and hard work... then again, Gainax truly deserves all the success it has gotten over the years for that reason.

    • @youngkappakhan
      @youngkappakhan 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I will forever hate NHK for ruining Nadia by ordering more episodes than Gainax's budget allowed forcing them to outsource a whole arc to some shitty backwater Korean studio, then hogging the rights so that nobody can remaster it. It could so easily have been one of my favorite shows of all time, all the episodes actually done by Gainax are phenomenal

    Did they witnessed Mazinger ZERO since Gunbuster appeared to aid Kouji and Tetsuya in Mazinger Zero manga sequel finale before they returned to their home Earth in other multiverse as After ZERO exploded, the multiverse went back to normal, leaving more possibilities for other mecha stories

    • @EvanChu0815
      @EvanChu0815 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hold up, I'm pretty sure that all the mecha that came out at the end were "creations" of the countless denizens of Earth (that timeline earth where only Mazingers existed) and are made up of pure photon energy and thus none of them actually had their original pilots. Plus, the gunbuster definitely did not go there destroyed, so that rules out that.
