Why do I always watch reviews after I bought something🤣🤣 But I couldn’t agree more. This is a shoe you can trust for hiking and even hiking on rough terrain and do a pretty much anything else with outdoors shoe. I have some Merrels for extreme long term hiking but they are too bulky to lug around for most weekend hikes. I love this shoe so far!!! It’s sturdy and tough for rocky terrain too
Strangely, they advertise it as trail running shoe, but it's actually a much better hiking shoe than Salomon Ultra 4. These have a normal hard midsole which allows you to walk on hard and rocky terrain with no problem, while the Ultras are just too soft and you feel every tiny stone with them.
This leaf / grape/ shadow shoe is my 4th pair, but the 3 previous pairs were GTX versions. This shoe is a do it all shoe including everyday work (high school teacher) shoe as well as a commuter and a weekend hiking shoe. Been most happy with the design even if many others warn that the older models were better. I ain’t complaining about this newer XA 3D V8 Pro, I’m still happy as a pig in crap. LOL Peace Be The Journey!
Salomon is always out of stock. I recommend the wide version. The regular width always seems to be too narrow. I don't have Hobbit feet, just normal size 13 and across their whole line, always go with the wide. Trust me.
I wanna THANK YOU for recommending the XA shoe for my outdoor and fly fishing adventures. I tried them on and they sure did feel amazing BUT the Salomon website doesn’t have the color I want in my size nor did any of the local stores in my area. As soon as they get stock on the Salomon website, I will be buying the Salomon XA Pro 3D V8 GTX in the Turkish Sea/Black/Pearl Blue. Again thank you for pointing me in the right direction....
I've actually narrowed down my options to this one for a trek in Nepal (Langtang Valley). I pronate a bit, suffer from a bit of Achilles tendonitis and don't want to lug around heavy boots. Do you reckon I'm on the right track...no pun intended.
These are my all-time faves! I wear them for hiking, running, and even everyday use. I've owned over 10 pairs over the years. I now need a mid or high boot for hiking (ankle support), but I can't seem to find one that fits me like this Xa pro. What I like is the support it gives my whole foot, without being rigid, and they really cradle my narrow feet/heals ( I do use insoles for arch support too). I can be in these shoes for hours and my feet dont get tired and def no hot spots. Can you recommend a high or mid boot that might fit me like these xa pros??
thanks alot..Same i have, EXCEPT one model earlier with Gore-tex membrane, red coloured. (XA PRO 3D GTX , Mountain trail). Undestructable.. Hicked almost 200Km (aprox 130mlles), and still have more than 2mm grip under..,3d chassis works perfectly, hortly said: simply "cant get rid of them" ;-)) Thank you for super review
Just purchased this shoe. Mainly for hiking on the weekends. So glad to hear it is less of a trail runner. I have not worn them more than just sizing. So question is. Do you really think this shoe will hold up as a shoe I can hike and work in? All day wear type shoe?
I do, I think this is probably one of Salomons toughest shoes I have used. It does well blending durability and breathability / functionality as well I definitely can't recommend it enough. - Trevor
@@rmkvisions I have worn them for two days at work now. They seem super comfortable but I think there is a slight break in period. Definitely seem great. Thanks for your time
They run small. I'm a 12.5 on the Brannock device and the 13 is just a bit too small in length. If they made a 13.5 I'd buy another pair, they were that good. The outsole is good for dry terrain. Yet, the compound of the lugs is so hard that when wet it will just slide on any hard surface.
Bought these on December 27 2020: I ran on January 1: 10k January 5: 10k had a knee injury so didn't go trail running untill last week.. July 31: 13k Had a major blister on my right foot August 4: ca. 10k Blister again on same place Today: 7k And again. Found out the leather halfway is somewhat bent and on the inside there's a bubble that rubs against my foot. I only walked 50k on these shoes, so I contacted the party that sold them and they asked for photos of the shoe, which I sent.. including a photo of my blister on the same place. Waiting for response now. I paid € 95.95. Thought this is too much for shoes to fail after few runs. But in general I'm quite pleased with the shoes.. despite them being pretty stiff.
How have these held up? I have the previous “generation” that are looking a little ragged. The reviews of new gen indicate the quality isn’t as good as in the past.
I had pair of these for 3 months and GTX stopped working. And it wasn't even rainy in my area. The morning dew on grass makes them stink af and make my socks wet. Maybe it's just mine shoes problem, but still terrible quality for the price. Comfy shoe, but I've bought them cause of GTX and I regret. It was used for daily walk, few hundred meters daily. I used Hoka speedgoat mid 2 WP for running and walk and they ruled.
@@rmkvisions I heard that the laces are made of Kevlar. Not sure how true that is but I’ll take your word that they won’t break. Since I got mine at REI I guess 1 year is sufficient time to test.😎
@@joemusic2882 I've had a pair break - not the lace - but the fastener... they sell repair kits and it's easy as to replace. Not exactly like factory for the pull tab, as that's where the join goes - but great! Been solid for ages since
You can yes, however it’s quite stiff and I really wouldn’t recommend it. The most important thing is comfort though and if you have like them in the past go for it !
It is definitely not a low profile also. It is a Salomons contra grip outsole which I believe to be amazing from my experiences. In terms of the depth of the lugs on the outsole I think they're perfect for what the shoe is intended, if you're walking around with very aggressive five to six millimeter lugs they are only going to wear down fast. Just as driving all your on winter tires would wear them down much quicker than driving around on all season tires. Many people think getting the most aggressive outsole possible will last them the longest when in turn it actually wears down faster because it is a softer rubber and more exposed lugs. I hope this helps
@@rmkvisions In my experience with the previous version, the profile on the heel expired after about 800 to 1000km. Besides that, I am very satisfied with this shoe for long hikes.
Wow, ok- look better in the video than in the store pics. I have the last version in black, but they had some gray highlights on them. The new version’s black is totally blacked out. Thanks!
Of course. My link in the description is for backcountry and it looks like they have some of this color in stock, they are also doing a 20% off coupon right now so pretty good time If you were looking!
The speed causes an amazing shoe but it is more of an aggressive low cushioned trail runner whereas this is a very stable more of a hiking shoe as opposed to a dedicated trail runner in my eyes. They both do different things better but for every day or hiking I think this is a better shoe
Wow the color grading in your video makes it feels like an high art netflix horror and you’re the dude walking into the forest that unwittingly gets killed
What insoles do you recommend?
Currex Hikepro 10000%! I guess I should have said that but everyone is different - Trevor
Do you use those in the quest and ultras as well?
I do! I pretty much used QRX in all of my footwear, I use the run pro for all of my running as well
Thanks!

Just picked up mine yesterday and quickly went walking in the neighborhood. So far I love it. Today the big test....The Mount Wilson Trail.
@Boy Jakey Unfortunately not all the way but I’m working on it
@Boy Jakey What are talking about? Stuck on the trail? Why do you say that?

They will work but they are meant for outdoor use, the outsole will wear done somewhat faster on cement etc but you’ll be fine !

I have them and can tell you they are twice as heavy as road running shoes so I could not get use to it. I use them for hiking boots now
Got these also. These shoes rock. Lightweight but also sturdy. Underrated
One with my favorite shoes I've ever used that's for sure!
@@rmkvisions In Europe did the High Route. Lots of scrambling. Had the Altra’s, a lot of local Swiss wore these. Lesson learned.
What about the durability of the threads/soles? They're low profile and look like they would wear out long before the shoes would.

800 miles is a very good time for a shoe. By that time the cushion and support of a shoe is pretty much toast - Not too bad!
Do you think this is going to be good for 30+ degrees with lots of humidity?
What color are those? I see solid black, green, or orange. Can’t find what yours look to be....black, gray??
They are the green! Grape leaf I believe it's called

I heard from amazon and reviews that these v8 fall apart and poor quality. Is it true and which other variants would you recommend instead?
No way man. I bought these two years ago while living in Alaska. They are still rocking.
Just picked up the GTX version - what do you recommend for actual trail running (in Oregon, so similar in many ways to Colorado)?
Salomon Sense Ride 3/4. Hoka Speedgoat 4, The new Brooks Cascadia is pretty sweet as well! Any of Hokas trail running shoes are amazing
Awesome. Thanks for the recommendation!
Any time!
Nice shoes ! Nice review!
Thank you very much!
These don’t have gortex right? Just looking for something more breathable
These are the non Gore-Tex version correct. They definitely are plenty breathable!
Are these shoes waterproof or water resistant?
Waterproof??
Xa pro 3d v8, ultra 4, or speedcross 6?
Ultra 4 for hiking. Speedcross for trailrunning. XA PRO for an in-between.
You are Andrzej Bargiel twin brother 😀
does it run tts? or should i size up or size down?
It ran true for me 100%

Which one is best this one or xa wild ?
They are both very similar, I think it would depend on which you preferred the look of better!
Are these waterproof?
This model is not, they make a waterproof Goretex version however.
You can wear them to the park with your kids. Awesome. I'm buying 5 pair. Can you wear them to the dentist? Or is that a big no no.

What is the "V8"?
It is the 8th version!
I hate this shoes. It is Not komfortabel. The x ultra 3 is the Best.
Bad shoes
