Why do you need variables? You can create this interaction using overlay in a very easy way.

Hi, yes you can use overlay... but for example with overlay you can`t scrolling frame. With overlay you will need change there position every time when you will change position dropdown in mockups. And that way you start learn using variable. Plus in paid version you can prototype more advanced. For example stay as a selected one or other option.
