  • I've been hearing quite a bit lately with people saying they use Grey Cards to work out light, or even just 'eyeball' it to get their image. That's great if you are just using one source of light but what about the rest of the time?? Here's how and why I use a Light Meter and think you should too!

Excellent ramble. Am a light meter believer and user but still had to watch the complete video as your ramblings just explain things so well. Excellent ramble and look forward to many more.

Thank you for the superb explanation, I always use a light meter in the studio, it is so easy and saves so much time in post processing. Like you, my time is very precious and sorting through client images is a job that I want to be as easy as possible! It takes minutes to meter each light to decide on power level rather than spending hours in front of my Mac adjusting after. There is also the mental pat on the back for getting the look I want of course ! 😊😊

100% agree with you. We want to be creating images not being sat at a computer all day correcting them :)

Totally agree with this. also if you have to reproduce the same lighting over and over in different locations I find the meter the only quick reliable way. But I still get told ima a dinosaur for using one lol I would rather be a quick accurate dinosaur than a fumbling chimp though :P

Its better to get the picture correct first time, I'm also happy to be a dinosaur

Sounds great, but don't we go and change everything in lightroom. Photoshop anyway?

Thats where his comment 80% right in camera was pointing. Yes we do post but the more you get right in camera the less you degrade the file by having to correct it all in post IMHO

I believe that post production is to "finish off" or "polish" an image, yes everything deserves a "tickle" BUT its much easier to enhance a good image than rescue a poor one. So the better the image in camera the stronger the over all finished image.
