I just use a microwavable glass mixing bowl and a corelle plate, works great. The microwave power/wattage does matter. I made it in a 700 watt and an 1100 watt microwave, and it would always burn in the 700 but not in the 1100 because it pops faster and the popped kernels have less chance to start burning. This bowl did have fewer unpopped kernels than mine but not a lot more
Mr. Sandoval Yeah, when you got one that worked well, it was magical. We had one in the 80s that was like a heating bowl. You’d put kernels and oil in the bottom and it would pop it. Healthier than the microwave bags and tastier than the air poppers. The air poppers were super cool, though, and hardly ever need any kind of cleanup. Except the butter tray, if you used it.
I have a hot air popper that also has a little dish you can put butter on to liquefy it and spread on the popcorn. The hot air popper is way better than microwave crap, but you do have to season it. I think you're talking about jiffy-pop. They look like a frying pan with an aluminum foil lid that expands. They had them around when I was a kid in the 70s.
I have this, and it is amazing! 5.0 Couple of things. First, there is no comparing this to any air-popped pockorn I've ever had. Even with no oil or salt, it's pretty good. When you go and try to ad salt for more flavor, just like air-popped popcorn, with no oil, salt, even popcorn salt will not stick to it. I've found you can take salt or popcorn salt, put it into a blender and blend it till it is super-fine and it will stick to the popcorn popped with no oil. I just store the super-fine salt in a regular salt shaker. The instructions say you should never put salt or oil on the corn before popping, but I have done it and gotten GREAT results. YMMV. I would never advise anyone not to follow the manufacturer's directions, but here's what I do. I put the cupful of popcorn in the popper. Then I put salt on the popcorn. I had to experiment with it to find the correct amount. Then I put just a splash of popcorn oil on top of the corn. Finally I stir it with my finger till the popcorn is completely coated with oil and salt, then cook as normal. It is the best popcorn I've ever made, and I use significantly less oil and salt than with any other method I've tried.
R.L. Dane actually Reviewbruh has already been given this title years ago! (Report of the Week, he does fast food reviews, since he was a kid). Even his comment sections are the sweetest on TH-cam!
Just watched the video in May 2023. We've been using this product for about a year and it works great! To 1/4 cup pop corn, we add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of Flavacol (this is what they use in movie theaters to season the pop corn). Microwave for 2:20 and you have movie theater quality pop corn. It's great!
I work at a call center so I've now become an at home rep, lol. So not much of a difference as I still have to take calls. But now I can do so in my pajamas! Actually, as I work overnight, I could do that anyways if I wanted because all the big wigs are gone for the day ;)
I’ve used one of these silicone microwaveable popcorn poppers for years with the Orville popcorn kernels and have no complaints. The resulting popcorn is far superior to the bag kind, and the only fat is whatever you may choose to add for flavor. The floppiness allows you to tuck the lid inside and collapse the bowl for space-saving storage between uses. As you found, you wouldn’t want to put a hot bowl in your lap anyway.
@@shastastan1935 : Later I read the instructions more closely and found that no oil is necessary, and in fact there is a slight danger of fire from overheating, though that never happened for me. But you will need some kind of flavoring.
@@catherinehubbard1167 The Orville oil has flavor that I like. Yes, it works fine without oil, but since I can have very little salt, I like adding the oil.
Yes, it works! We have one, and I love it! So easy to use, and just melt butter in a separate bowl, add Tabasco, and pour the mixture over popcorn. So good! The only negative, in my opinion, is the bowl does get a little hot, but so do a lot of bowls or plates in the microwave.
Ok, microwave popcorn works because the kernels heat from the inside, but you don't need any gadgets. A simple kraft paper bag will work just as well. Just use 1/4 cup of kernels only, pop about 2min. After, add melted ghee and salt. The paper bag is only warm, does not need emptying, shake the ghee and salt within the bag, eat out of the bag. No mess, no washing and no toxic chemicals.
@@Freakinreviews Us kids liked the partly browned kernels, too. My Grandmother had a huge bread bowl she filled up with popped corn for us. We 3 kids had it all gone in a flash. I went to a friend's house. Her mom made popcorn for us. I was utterly flabbergasted that she gave us each about a large tablespoon of popcorn on a cocktail napkin. Talk about a shocked and disappointed kid, I sure was one.
I've used this popper for over a year or so and love it. I add a little coconut oil, maybe 2 tbs, and have not had a problem. Adding the coconut oil and salt makes it taste just like theater popcorn, IMO. I've also been known to add more than a 1/4 cup, as much as a rounded 1/2 cup causing the popcorn to pop over the bowl and the lid to go askew, my microwave is clean so I sweep the popped kernels into my bowl. I prefer this popcorn bowl over my real popcorn machine maker, less mess to clean and the popcorn tastes just as great!
Another winner right here! Hubby saw this, mentioned it to me, I watched the review, and he bought it for me! I'm eating my second giant bowl with a spoon and it's glorious. I've used everything from a whirlypop to a bowl with a plate on it in the microwave and this has to be the easiest, fastest, cleanest way to make real popcorn I've ever encountered. Love it! Thank you for your review! Oh, and i got the 'clear' (more like frosted) one and it's so fun to watch it pop!
Love that your thinking of others during this time and look forward to more videos. The good thing about microwave popcorn is it’s buttery and salty. But I’ve seen this type of popper and they all work well. Stay healthy. Ps all my pets are allowed on the furniture 😀
I microwave popcorn in a GLASS BOWL. Preheat coconut oil/salt for a minute or so; add popcorn, cover (airtight and vented both work). FIVE minutes and done.
I'm biased for Orville Redenbacher (1907-95). I met him at a reception in college around 1980 that he attended because his granddaughter was in my dorm. The instant he found out that we had popcorn out for snacks he made a beeline for it, and examined it closely kernel by kernel until he declared that it was "his" popcorn and that we had cooked and seasoned it properly... and he was correct. What a guru! He was very interesting to talk to, knew positively everything there was to know about popcorn, and dressed and spoke exactly as you'd expect from his many TV commercials.
Ever watch a popcorn popper thing and there's the metal thing at the top that rises as more popcorn pops? It's like that I guess, builds heat and prevents the popped corn from flying everywhere.
I’m still working. Work in hospital billing. Considered essential in keeping hospital running. Just want to come home each day and shut my brain off. No social media. No news. These videos are really helping with my stress and anxiety. Thank you.
Thanks for the review, I really love this. I think it compares really well to air popped. I do add salt to the unposed corn, and seems you need to add a little more than you think as some ends up in the bottom with the unpopped kernels. It saves breaking up the kernals as when adding afterwards.
Silver linings for me is no huge, loud, Mariachi parties at the house behind ours and no people parking and playing loud music or fighting the the parking lot of the park across the street from us.
As someone who owns and uses this exact bowl regularly, let me give you some advice. The bowl company talks about no oil because they are wanting to present you with a HEALTHIER option. They say on their website it's "not required". However, for taste and for cooking purposes I put a spoonful of olive oil in there. (I just eyeball it) You also should season the popcorn. I use different things, such as salt, pepper and sometimes chicken flavor powder because I like that. Sometimes, I'll pop the corn with a little bit of butter. I'll be honest, I don't feel as though the butter is necessary. But if you absolutely love butter then I'd say slice a little bit of butter in there as well, and just lessen the amount of oil you put in. I've done that a couple times. This is a really nice product. It's good grade silicone and it's better than those little bags you get.
The instructions with mine said to use no more than a tablespoon of oil. I use 1/2 tablespoon for 3 T of popcorn. I use popcorn setting and it works well. Just be very careful the lid doesn't create a vacuum!
Since school's out I've got little to nothing to do but the minimal online work given but I love watching your videos, glad you're gonna pump them out during this epidemic!
Looks cool. I've been doing this forever with paper bags in the microwave. Nobody needs that chemical-filled brand name microwave popcorn. Far cheaper and healthier this way. A lesson I've learned on adding butter though. After you melt the butter wait about 30 seconds or so before mixing it with the popcorn. If the butter is too hot it will just melt the popcorn. A spice mixture that I use quite often is garlic powder, dried dill and seasoning salt. If I find one of these silicone options on sale I may give it a try. Thanks for the video!

I absolutely love this!!!! I bought it a couple years ago based on this video recommendation and I love it love it love it. I got a glass atomizer to put olive oil and I lightly Spritz the popcorn with it and sprinkle it with salt give it a toss and it's good to go it's so delicious that way. By the way I season in a separate bowl it's nice to keep the popcorn bowl clean and not have to constantly have to wash it. I use Iberian olive oil which is blended with sunflower oil it is very light and delicious. Also I use a fine grain of salt sprinkled on it.
Who's the smartest in an emergency? Bailey, who retroactively got the green card to get on the couch. Well, I'm sure there's plenty of pet hair removers our host can test in the future.
I love this thing! Thanks so much for telling me about it. I've been using paper bags to air pop popcorn in the microwave for years (Good Eats, don't you know) and this gives me the same results without wasting bags and staples.
I've been using this thing for a while now. And this is how I salt the popcorn: I put salt in the bowl, mix it with four tablespoons of water and add the corn. The water evaporates first, and a thin layer of salt covers the corn kernels. Very simple. Sometimes I also add yeast flakes.
Got my Salbree in two days from Amazon and followed your directions. It worked! We used to eat popcorn all the time before I gave up oil and butter. Obviously this is not as tasty as the stove top version with oil I used to make but it is the first time after multiple different ways of making it was I able to get salt to stick. Thank you!
You're the best to give us more "at home" entertainment...thank you. Enjoyed the video. Agree...Bailey's got a little grayer & she wants her belly rubbed. Luv that dog!
I’ve owned several microwave popcorn poppers over the years. They’ve all worked well, The thing I like best about using them is the popcorn is very dry & crisp, probably because microwaves work by displacing moisture from the food it cooks (ever notice how food can dry out in the microwave?) Popcorn made on the stove & even packaged microwave popcorn traps a lot of steam & the popcorn isn’t as crisp. Just reconcile yourself to adding butter & seasonings. No big deal & you can control the amount.
I have an electric air popper, but I want to start making popcorn that is like movie theater popcorn, so I’m in the market for a new popper. Right now I am debating between buying a whirlypop stovetop popper, this silicone microwave popper, or possibly the “Stir Crazy” or Dash electric hot oil popper. Is there really a noticeable taste/texture difference between popcorn made with oil in this silicone bowl in the microwave and popcorn made in the whirlypop or electric oil popper? Besides any possible taste/texture difference, the other thing I’m worried about with the silicone bowls is that they seem to be all made in China (so I worry about the quality/healthiness of how it’s made), and they even have the California prop 65 cancer warning attached to them on their Amazon pages. What are your thoughts, if you don’r mind my asking?

An I DO mean LOVES you 😂 to the point she makes it plainly clear every time she watches your videos with me what she thinks of you 😂. But it’s cool cause you’re an awesome person in my opinion.
My coworkers loved this thing and used it everyday. They used no oil and it was a too dry for me. I bought one but never read the instructions and used a tablespoon peanut oil. What a disaster, it now looks like I rescued it from a fire. I use the red glass quart sized cooker with the plastic handle, My wife and I use it three to four times a week.
I have one, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Two measuring lines built in, use the 'popcorn' option on your micro. Always season in separate bowl. Crisp, crunchy perfect every single time. Well worth the purchase. 🏆🥇👌
I love this Salbree Popcorn Popping Bowl. Thanks for the review. Adding a teaspoon of water to the bottom before adding the corn can prevent burning the corn.
As much as I love popcorn, I can no longer stand the feeling of trying to get it out of my teeth. As a kid, long before they invented microwave popcorn, we used to make our own using paper grocery bags. I feel old remembering paper grocery bags and 2 liter glass Coke bottles. 😂
We would take an ear of popping corn (dry on the ear), toss it into a paper bag, then microwave. Perfect and amazing. Miss that. Btw Orville is a special variety.
For anyone who might be on a whole food plant based diet (~no butter or oil) like me: Two weeks ago Moritz W. posted a comment revealing a trick to use the Salbree and adding 4 tablespoons of water and some salt (I used 1/2 teaspoon which was probably too much) to the 1/4 cup of unpopped kernels in the bottom of the Salbree. I ordered a Salbree and gave it a try. What this accomplishes is getting the salt to stick to the popcorn without oil or butter. This is a big deal for me because I can eat the popcorn without oil or butter but not without salt. I had previously exhausted all other online tips for getting salt to stick to air popped popcorn with no success. It does lengthen the microwave cooking time but it works!
After years of using a hot-air popper I recently bought a Nordic Ware Pro Pop Popper. I can't say if it is better or worse than the Salbree, but I am totally satisfied with it. It has a mere 7,663 ratings and 4.4 stars vs 30,342 and 4.6 stars for the Salbree. It is not soft like the Salbree, and . Of course I add butter (half a bar, melted) and some salt (not a lot). I have another bowl for mixing and serving. I certainly prefer it to the hot air popper, which would occasionally send an unpopped kernel into the bowl, where it would then pop, sending already popped kernels flying.
As a lazy person, getting a pan out, warming oil, watching the pot, moving the pot, and placing it in a bowl is too much work. I tried another brand of plastic popper, ok until lid broke, tried it again, same thing, tried lunch bags (paper) and that was OK, and I could reuse the bags, but the outcome was less than I wanted. I hopped on to Amazon and there was that Salbree and I figured it is not too expensive so I got it. My instructions said add oil to popper if you want so I guess that changed, but I actually really like that popper, and you can read my whole review on Amazon. Popcorn may be my most favorite food ever.
I just received this about an hour ago, washed it and tried it out, I used the Amish popcorn, and every kernel popped. Salt won't stick to it so now I have to find a way to do the butter. I did another batch and used one teaspoon of water and the salt still will not stick. I don't want to mess up the bowl using butter in it. We like it and it does what it says it will do.
I always binge watch your videos every couple months, a couple months will go buy and I'll literally watch 10+ videos and then forget about the channel and then come across again a few months later and boom another 10+ video night lol
Just put popcorn kernels in a brown paper lunch bag and roll it up two or three times and stick it in the microwave. It works great and is cheaper. Plus you're not heating up plastics into your food.
After watching him pop popcorn in 6 types of popping apparatus, I will keep popping my popcorn in the microwave oven or just use mom´s old pot we used when I was a child... That one is best... cooking fake butter, salt and corn in the bottom, the lid on the pot and cook at highest heat on the electric stove. It works every single time! and one does not have to stand over the stove at all...

It's great!

I appreciate it. Stay safe out there!

Dittos to what Catherine said. I add the Orville oil to mine. I only use a small pinch of sale because I have kidney disease.
That was fun James!! I don’t have one.. but, i have seen them advertised on QVC... Hi Bailey!!! I’m sending you hugs!!!!!😃✌️
This is what I need. A break from the news, thank you. Please keep them coming
When I was a kid we called the half open kernels "old maids "
Because they were never "popped". Never understood the phrase until I was adult
We called them PopNots.
Me too, old maids. I guess that's not politically correct any more

so glad to watch this. goodbye doom and gloom, hello freakin reviews!!
And I thought I was the only one who searched the bowl for half popped kernels. LOL
That's the best part!
Oh you are not the only one, for sure! Lol my mom and I have to split them ! Jiji
I used to buy a product called half pops in aged cheddar flavor. So damn good. Broke my tooth tho & had to give those up. Major bummer.
I wonder if there is a good way of making more partly popped kernels?
I've used this popper for over a year or so and love it. I add a little coconut oil, maybe 2 tbs, and have not had a problem. Adding the coconut oil and salt makes it taste just like theater popcorn, IMO. I've also been known to add more than a 1/4 cup, as much as a rounded 1/2 cup causing the popcorn to pop over the bowl and the lid to go askew, my microwave is clean so I sweep the popped kernels into my bowl. I prefer this popcorn bowl over my real popcorn machine maker, less mess to clean and the popcorn tastes just as great!
I love how he addressed the whole CV thing and is being awesome to all of us!
Just wipe it clean.
Been using this for popcorn for 2 years now. Still works as good as new.
He was very interesting to talk to, knew positively everything there was to know about popcorn, and dressed and spoke exactly as you'd expect from his many TV commercials.

you need the lid to build up heat inside the chamber and to prevent popcorn spillage. do it!
Ever watch a popcorn popper thing and there's the metal thing at the top that rises as more popcorn pops? It's like that I guess, builds heat and prevents the popped corn from flying everywhere.

Thanks for the review, I really love this. I think it compares really well to air popped. I do add salt to the unposed corn, and seems you need to add a little more than you think as some ends up in the bottom with the unpopped kernels. It saves breaking up the kernals as when adding afterwards.

@Tony Wolf I hope that package of meat is frozen.
As someone who owns and uses this exact bowl regularly, let me give you some advice.
The bowl company talks about no oil because they are wanting to present you with a HEALTHIER option. They say on their website it's "not required". However, for taste and for cooking purposes I put a spoonful of olive oil in there. (I just eyeball it)
You also should season the popcorn.
Hope you stay safe as well Mr. White..... You and your family of course...
The instructions with mine said to use no more than a tablespoon of oil. I use 1/2 tablespoon for 3 T of popcorn. I use popcorn setting and it works well. Just be very careful the lid doesn't create a vacuum!

By the way I season in a separate bowl it's nice to keep the popcorn bowl clean and not have to constantly have to wash it.
I use Iberian olive oil which is blended with sunflower oil it is very light and delicious. Also I use a fine grain of salt sprinkled on it.

Just use ANY microwave safe bowl, keeping in mind that popcorn will expand as it pops! If you have no lid, use a big plate.
I love the humility, "Who am I to question their instructions?"
I've been using this thing for a while now. And this is how I salt the popcorn: I put salt in the bowl, mix it with four tablespoons of water and add the corn. The water evaporates first, and a thin layer of salt covers the corn kernels. Very simple. Sometimes I also add yeast flakes.
You are an absolute genius thank you very much
I am trying not to eat the butter or the oil and haven't been happy with anything. I will give your idea a try!
Thank you!
How long do you normally have it in for? I just tried for 3-4 mins and the kernels just weren't popping

I like how this is also a taste test between store brand and name brand.
I’ve owned several microwave popcorn poppers over the years.
They’ve all worked well,
The thing I like best about using them is the popcorn is very dry & crisp, probably because microwaves work by displacing moisture from the food it cooks (ever notice how food can dry out in the microwave?)
Popcorn made on the stove & even packaged microwave popcorn traps a lot of steam & the popcorn isn’t as crisp.

2liter glass??? That's a lot of glass!
Wow really the 2 liter tho 🤯

Hot Soup try a brand like Tiny but Mighty. Basically hull-less after popping.
Sorry, but I don't think they ever made 2 liter glass Coke bottles. In those days it would have been a half gallon or 2 quarts in the bottle.
Love your videos bro! Always trying to be unbiased as much as possible!
Bailey is beautiful. I miss my Golden so much. Best friend forever
For as many items that you have reviewed, your kitchen looks good. No clutter!
Half-popped kernels are the BEST.
Indeed...but you risk also your teeth...so, careful!...😆
Growing up we called them old maids... yes extra crunch.
@Sean Wilkinson exactly!!!
When I read about eating half popped kernels, all I can think of is cracked teeth, pain and $$ dental bills.
I just ordered one of these off of Amazon and ordered the Amish popcorn to try. I will know how it does this weekend.
Try this out: quarter cup of kernels in a small paper bag, place on a microwave safe plate add a pat of salted butter and microwave. It works!
:) nice
