- The Battle of Gelderland - a Dutch province - is one of the fierce underrated Dutch rivalries no one knows about. A history of this cross town rivalry dates back to the middle ages where both cities Arnhem and Nijmegen have their own cultural heritage that is channeled nowadays into football. This rivalry has everything from a natural barrier, recent history and bragging rights. This the Gelderland derby. This is NEC versus Vitesse.
My apologies for my heavy Dutch accent :-).
One note! I mention the oldest football clubs in the Netherlands. However there are even older football clubs in the Netherlands. On Professional level Sparta Rotterdam is the oldest PRO football ball club in the Netherlands 2nd is Vitesse Arnhem.

Complimenten voor deze prachtige video! Allemaal goede info en ontzettend interessant om naar te luisteren als Vitesse fan. De editing is echt fantastisch, heb echt het gevoel alsof ik naar een kanaal met een miljoen+ subs zit te kijken. Het enige minpuntje is toch wel het Engels spreken, ik krijg zelf de indruk dat je er vrij veel moeite mee hebt, maar dat ook door een accent of dialect komen. In ieder geval een prachtige video, en ik zal zeker weten abonneren!

Mooi dat je het jaar 1887 als oprichtings jaar noemt. Het klopt dat Vitesse iets eerder is opgericht dan Sparta. Maar je zit mis dat Vitesse destijds als Cricket team is opgericht. Het zit iets anders. Vitesse speelde van 1887 tot 1891 voetbal. Echter had het eind 1891 geen terrein meer om te voetballen. De club is toen tijdelijk opgeheven. 14 Mei 1892 hebben de leden van het voormalige Vitesse een Cricket team in Arnhem opgericht. Later hebben ze dat Cricket team weer Vitesse genoemd.
Vitesse is tevens één van de oprichters van de NVB (voorganger KNVB).
Het eerste officiële Vitesse shirt was wit met een blauwe diagonale streep.
Voor de jaren 80 speelde Vitesse ook al 4 seizoenen in de Eredivisie.
Vitesse speelde 5 bekerfinales.
Vitesse speelde niet direct betaald voetbal na de invoering in 1956. Daardoor vertrokken 7 basisspelers naar de Graafschap, waardoor Vitesse een moeilijke start had toen het dan uiteindelijk betaald voetbal ging spelen.
Theo Bos is mister Vitesse. Cocu is natuurlijk ook wel een grote speler die benoemd kan worden. Willem Hesselink is zeer belangrijk voor Bayern München geweest.
Vitesse is in 2010 in handen van buitenlandse investeerders gekomen.
Maar complimenten hoor. Je hebt zeker je best gedaan.

6.10 zeg je dat geel/zwart van het arnhemse wapen komen. Maar dat klopt niet, zoals je zelf ook ziet is dat blauw/wit. Vitesse speelde op het begin ook in het blauw/wit, maar dit is na enkele jaren aangepast naar geel/zwart naar het gelderse wapen blauw/geel/zwart

Yes I notice. However on professional level Sparta is still the oldest.
Calling nec/nek a people's club...that what they like to identify themselves, but how do you measure "people's club" ? Special when you put that as a comparison against Vitesse, isn't Vitesse a club where people come?and we never debat to be the oldest club of Netherlands... it's not a discussion thats Sparta is older
