Hell yes, please do something off their album Symbolic next. RIP Chuck Shuldiner
yessir RIP
Story to tell
Crystal Mountain, Without Judgement, and 1,000 Eyes are all great contenders and 10/10s for sure
@@VermilionGates for me Voice of the Soul is the GOAT
@@beepboop204 Wrong album but I agree
Death is of those rare bands that never made a "bad" album. We demand more Death in this channel!
Death are second to none. Literaly a league on their own, throughout the years of their musical and sound evolution (up until fate struck)...There are no filler tracks, each and everyone is unique in its way, lyrics and Chuck's voice are always powerful and visceral.
All the lineups throughout the albums were recorded by some of the best musicians in the scene. Trully epic band.
@Dragon Ball fans can't read oh yes they do. So many people say that all their songs are masterpieces while I'd say all of their albums have at least one filler track (maybe not TSOP).
Only albums with fillers that i can think is Scream Bloody Gore and The Sound and Perseverance (I'm excluding God of Thunder because it's a cover)
@Dragon Ball fans can't read you say that..but fail to mention a single song from any album that was filler. This is DEATH...not fucking Metallica or Pantera. Gtfoh
@@detts5082 what would you consider a filler in Sound Of Perseverance
Παμε λιγο \m/
This is death metal; when it still was raw. The band later progressed into a more technical DM band. You could say they birthed several metal genres.
@Linus Warn Yes exactly! Spot on comment.💯🤘🎸
Väl talat 🤘
I would call it more progressive death metal but Chuck did write some killer Melodic stuff. Death's individual thought Pattern's and Carcass's Heartwork albums did influence Melodic death metal when the 2 albums were released in 93.
@@wizarddragon You’re right; it’s very melodic and progressive.
This (to me) was the album where they truly became Death. They hit their stride on this record, and ran with it. Still my favorite thing they've done along with the Mantis/Death demo "Death By Metal".
You'll love the bass on the song Philosopher from Death.
more than 25 years ago I discovered Death with that song, an change my perception of what metal could be
I think he'll love how jazzy that song sounds, the way the drums/bass/guitars trade off with each other is really cool. I can't wait to see Geebz get into songs from Symbolic and Sound Of Perseverance (and maybe even Chuck's side project Control Denied), the evolution of Death is mind-blowing.
Chuck Schuldiner was taken from us much too soon, RIP 🙏, I can't imagine what masterpieces Chuck would've created if cancer hadn't taken him. Chuck's legacy will live forever!!!
Ooh, and he could watch Gene play it, from *GENE HOGLAN's* "The Atomic Clock: The Clock Strikes Two" DVD, Released 3 February, 2017:
th-cam.com/video/eGope68pHf0/w-d-xo.html
The bass on the whole Individual Thought Patterns album is SICK AF
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead because the bassist and drummer were fusion based……like Cynic
Death was essentially driven by one man, who developed 4 unique sounds in a 20-year span...
1st 1983-1990 - the pioneering, thrashy gore-era (3 records) (plus many demos)
2nd 1991-1993 - the increasingly technically-progressive era (2 records)
3rd 1995-1998 - the melodic-progressive era (2 records)
4th 1998-2001 - the full-on power metal (NOT DEATH METAL) era (in the Control Denied project) (1 record)
An incredible output in such a short time from Chuck Schuldiner. Digging into the rich catalogue for a quick periodic dip is totally worth it here.
Good catch on the punk influence. One thing a lot of people coming into metal don't always catch is just that. Metal got a lot of its aggression(specifically around the thrash era) from the influence of Punk and Hardcore punk. A death long form would be great, would be intersting to hear you react to a track from each of their albums as they grew more and more progressive as they went on, and they never put out a bad album. Also have to throw in my usual request for more Dillinger escape plan, hopefully a long form ;p keep up with the awesome content!
Would absolutely love to see a long form with Death! I think Geebz could give us some great insight into the stylistic changes going from Scream Bloody Gore to Human and then Perseverance 🤙🤘🤙🤘
Yeah, that's absolutely right. That intermingling of the two is probably the largest factor in punk's decline. It was eaten on the underground side by metal and on the pop side by pop-punk.
Yes to Death longform and DEP longform!
Yes, consider Napalm Death, who started in 1981, they began as a punk band and became a grind metal band.
@@thomashverring9484 hell they practically invented it
Death is an amazing band. Voice of the soul is probably one of my favorite songs ever.
Morning Adam :)
Yes absolutely, please react to this song geebz
@@KeyOfGeebz hi Geebz, the only problem with "Voice Of The Soul" is that it's a 3 min instrumental in-between songs. So if you do end up checking out "Voice Of The Soul", I think you should also hear the song it leads into called "To Forgive Is To Suffer". "Voice Of The Soul" is one of the most beautifully heavy instrumentals I've ever heard, it's one of those songs powerful enough to evoke an emotional reaction!
Next stop: Morbid Angel's 'Altars of Madness". Absolutely game changing record from 1989, insane drumming, mind-warping sideways guitar playing - off the charts innovation and musicianship.
Yes please! Let's have some Morbid Angel!
I always thought...and still do...if that record was played by the string section of an orchestra it would sound like the most evil, powerful, genius symphony of classical music ever (de)composed.
@@SirBoycie Interesting. Never thought of this aspect at all. Now I want to hear it.
@@ozricness Ozrics rule btw
I personally think that Invocation of the Continual One is Morbid Angel's masterpiece, and that's my favorite album of theirs as a whole too. Altars of Madness is a great album, but I think Formulas Fatal to the Flesh is more well rounded
Death is one of my favorite bands ever! Starting with 1991's "Human" album is when they really start to shine and bring in more progressive elements. Chuck was so talented and worked with some incredible musicians. Look forward to seeing you react to some of Death's later work. "Flesh and the power it holds“ is my favorite
This one live! th-cam.com/video/V-6D4oK1xKc/w-d-xo.html
Human is one of the best ever for death metal. Morbid Angel and Nile are up there too for American death. Being a bassist, i lean toward Individual Thought Patterns.
Shine? That’s when it was over.
I appreciate the older stuff too, but I think Death got better with each album. I would rank my favorite albums in their discography in descending order starting with the last one. To each their own I suppose...
@@jeremywalker3377 yeah I agree with you for the most part. I prefer the more melodic and progressive sound they incorporated more of as time went on
"Flattening of Emotions" by Death next please, Geebz. It was a game changer for metal in 1991. Sean Reinert changed metal forever with his jazz fusion chops playing over his blistering feet on the "Human" album.
This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ …..and then Gene and LaRocqie
Chuck was a genius and all around fantastic musician. Death kept getting better with every album. Individual Thought Patterns was a masterpiece and you need to check that out immediately.
One of the very very few bands where each and every single one of their albums were EXCELLENT
Death is my favorite band so this is unexpected.
i was very very lucky to see them live in Holland . It was the last time
I just caught Rick Rozz and Terry Butler playing under the moniker "Left to Die" last night. They're playing all 'Leprosy' and 'Scream bloody Gore' material on tour right now and it is excellent! Highly recommended for those who dig the oldschool death metal.
Rick is a trip! His Facebook posts used to crack me up
I'm so jeleous..I got scream bloody gore on release ..Death were and are still heavily on my playlists 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Where was that show? I caught them in Tampa
@@martinwakefield8138 - Atlanta.
Fun fact: Chuck was 20-years-old when he recorded Leprosy. Another fun fact: he recorded all the bass parts.
Terry locked up during recording. He couldn’t do the parts. So Chuck did them. Terry mentions it in the Death documentary (it’s on Prime).
@@LCW_01 Do you have the name of the doc ,or it's just "Death documentary" ? I can't find it
@@LeftToDie88 It's called "Death by Metal"... released 2018.
@@LCW_01 Thank you, but now I know why I can't find it, it's not in the french catalogue and vpn doesn't work :(
Their catalog is such an amazing body of work. Each album has an evolution in sound, musicianship and production. The last album is an entire different beast than the 'standard' Death albums, it was turning into weird prog-death metal that was the perfect way for Chuck to go out. The dude is definitely the wizard of Death Metal.
As an 80s metal fan that had to endure the switch of the 90s, Death never let me down. 'Symbolic' was an album that all my metal friends could appreciate. It's such a gem.
But 'Individual Thought Patterns' is my personal fav. Gene on drums is just like nothing else.
Hope you discover more of their music, their catalog always gets 'better' album by album. But their old raw stuff is also like nothing else.
RIP Chuck RIP Sean both legends .. suggestions would be Lack of Comprehension, Symbolic, Empty Words, Crystal Mountain or Flesh and the Power it Holds.
Man yes! Sean Reinert was a KILLER drummer. RIP
The Philosopher, Spirit Crusher, Voice of the Soul, Empty words, Zero tolerance, Symbolic, these are the songs for you!
Glad you reacted to Death, Geebz. You should react to Lack of Comprehension or The Philosopher next.
Love seeing you listen to extreme metal bands. when you said "This is sick!" I couldn't help but smile. Can't wait to see you listen to more like this.
True
Death's Voice of the Soul would have been so damn nice to dissect imho.
It is instrumental (which is not quite typical for the band) with prominently featuring acoustic guitar, quite melodic yet haunting.
I've been wanting Geebz to do that song since I first stumbled across his videos
The only problem with "Voice Of The Soul" is that it's a 3 min instrumental in-between songs.
You should do something off of their last album, Sound of Perseverance. Very nice production and technical as hell.
My favorite metal album
I'm glad he stared with something early so he can see how they progress. Perseverance is a great album but it's not really representative of the rest of the discography.
@@Gary_M yeah I agree, it is pretty different from the rest. Maybe he could do one of his long videos of Death where he listens to multiple songs from multiple albums.
Agreed with the other commenters above me but it is my favorite of theirs.
This is my favourite Death Metal production ever.
GOAT drum sound.
YES Geebz I've been waiting for you to do some Death for over a year now! My all-time favorite band! You should really delve into at least one track from each of their albums so you can see how their style evolves over time.
Wow this is NOT the Death track I expected you'd start with haha 🤘 This is THE band I wish I could go back to see of all bands. Got into them way too late :(
Chuck's evolution through this band was amazing. From the full on birth of death metal on to tech prog death by their last album. And his vocals evolved from nasty death growls to goblin like in the end. An amazing cast of musicians (drummers in particular) has rolled through Death. I'd suggest Zero Tolerance off their 96 album Symbolic for a good taste of their later work. Good one Geebz!!💀
Yes, finally!!! Many thanks for checking out Death! Can't wait for the next pick from their discography! If you want to do an 'evolution' of Death, I'd suggest "Flattening of Emotions" from the next album "Human"
Agree!!
Gotta check out their last 2 albums, "Symbolic", and "The Sound of Perseverance"!! Also, Chuck Schuldiner's last project was a band called Control Denied, and they only had 1 album, except there was a point where that album almost became Death's last album, instead of "The Sound of Perseverance"! 😯 ...Control Denied is basically Death with power metal vocals...
Definitely try something from Symbolic. Chuck really found the sweet spot between melody and heaviness on that album. The riffs are awesome and the songwriting and composition is top notch.
Since you've went into the realm of Death, I would suggest something from the album, Human. But, I think you should do the whole album, not just a specific song. It's a journey from beginning to end, with one of the most brilliant drum performances ever laid down on tape!
Hell yeah, with Reinert and Masvidal! Still sad about the Seans...
Human is the best Death album, the best death metal album of all times...a landmark of extreme music...RIP Chuck, RIP Sean 🤘
Check out Suffocation, they (kinda?) revolutionized Death metal in the 90s. highly recommend Pierced from Within.
I love that you started with Leprosy, still holds up as one of the best death metal albums ever. Legends!
My favorite album of Death is Individual Thought Patterns. It has some amazingly creative sections and musicianship.
Has Geebz reacted to any Carcass yet? Any track from Necroticism: Descanting The Insalubrious would be my choice.
Also Coroner, I'd have to go with Sirens as first pick (or any track from Mental Vortex).
That or Heartwork.
I would love to hear his reaction to one of the songs with crazy changes like "Exhume To Consume",or "Reek Of Putrefaction".
I really love early death metal with experiments, when the genre was not yet fully formed. A lot of cool European bands played here, for example Edge of Sanity, Phlebotomized, Carbonized
I really hope you'll start a journey with Death's music. The evolution in both the musicianship and production of this band was incredible. From the rawness of the early stuff to the final album which was basically prog death metal, I think you would enjoy the ride. Chuck really was a musical genius. Besides singing, playing guitar, writing the songs and the incredible lyrics, he also always brought in great musicians that helped evolve the sound of the band and the entire genre.
Death is just a legend. I'm so lucky I saw them on stage twice.
Too bad you didn't start with the first record.
Could be very interresting for you to follow the time line from now. To see how the band evolved will blow your mind !
Next one should be from "Spiritual Healing" and I warmly suggest the song "Low Life" from this album.
Enjoy !
Peace.
I’m so thrilled that this video appeared in my feed!!! Leprosy was a groundbreaking album for Death and the first production by Scott Burns at Morrisound Recording in Tampa.
I was lucky enough to intern with the man after I did an interview for my “Audio 4” class in college.
However - the album Human, only 2 albums after this was an ABSOLUTE game changer and took the band into the “technical and prog” metal labels you see. Hiring the lead guitar and drummer from Miami, FL’s Cynic was an important factor in sculpting the sound of Death and it basically changed the landscape of the death metal genre as well as the other sub-genres referenced.
Thanks again!
Get Lack of Comprehension Or Flattening of Emotions from the Human record.
Stellar shit.
Oh YES! Death, finally! Good stuff as always Geebz!
Man, you gotta do more Death! Every album sounds different from each other
Voice of the soul by Death is something out of this world and I would really enjoy seeing a reaction to it from you !
This is my favorite Death track of all-time. It’s the prototypical death metal song. I prefer the grimier era of Death, but Chuck was a legend and his whole catalog is insane.
Finally some Death!! Been waiting for this!
You’ve been putting in words what I enjoy so much about that era of music. More perfect and synchronized doesn’t always mean more better. Tape saturation is something I felt, but couldn’t imagine that it existed until you described it 👌🏼
Also these sync issues make it so natural sounding.
At last, some Death ☠. Nice reaction. Great musicians... More Death needed
The death metal sound back then man
Obituary covered Celtic Frost "Circle of the Tyrants" I think that's my favorite jam in that vein..
the section starting @ 7:42 is so utterly impressive. incredible intensity .
whoa! old school Death reaction, from out of nowhere??! yes!!
feel like there are a lot more better choices even from that album, but still stoked!
death #1
just watched the video. dead on my man, truly
I'm a die hard DEATH fan and this is so cool to see you enjoying this band listen to spiritual healing it's a masterpiece
I love the guttural scream Chuck lets loose at 8 minutes. It strikes me as a slight stylistic nod to Tom G. Warrior of Celtic Frost.
Now that I’m thinking about it there seem to be a number of similarities between the feel of this song and Celtic Frost’s “Into the Crypt of Rays”.
i imagine celtic frost was one of the biggest influences over death around this time
I think Gorguts Obscura deserves a listen
I'm so glad you liked the track Geebz!
It's not considered the most popular track from Leprosy, but it is a personal favorite of mine \m/
When it comes to production oldschool is the best school ;-)
That bit where the double bass hits after the solo is still one of the heaviest things I've ever heard!
Thank you so much for choosing Death. I have been asking since I first started listening to you back when you did Mr. Bungle. More please! Death is the best and your show is great! It satisfies me to see you react like I feel about music, especially when I know it's your 1st time hearing.
Amazing Death was a game changer, the evolution through the discography is a testament of hungry for keep forward, since "Scream Bloody Gore" till Control Denied "The Fragile Art Of Existence" Chuck was one of a kind
thanks for this #Geebz
Hi Geebz, thank you for your dissection and thoughts on the band Death and Chuck Schuldiner. Your awesome breakdown is just the beginning of this incredible band and you're right about it being very raw and punkish. Chuck and his band continued to develop & evolve into an incredible force of melodic & progressive death metal beauty that is so revered and respected by fans & musicians alike. Kudos to you for recognizing this from music very early in their musical journey. I would love to hear more. Thank you so much. RIP Chuck.🤘💯🎸
Chuck was a metal genius. So many great riffs and solos. I love his vocals too. For anyone that hasn't seen it yet check out Leonardo Lux's Death with no distortion videos. Hearing these songs played cleanly really shows how great Chuck really was.
"Flesh and the Power It Holds" or "Spirit Crusher" are more progressive and interesting songs, this one is pretty straight-forward but very cool.
Also would love to see you react to some more Type O Negative (you did one already i think)! Very interesting mixing and sound effects in songs like Love You to Death or Black No. 1.
Later albums devolved into too much tech wankery imo, earlier albums had a good mix with its own distinctive style which does better live as well
What a great reaction Geebz. You have to look at their last 2 albums, Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance. Chuck's voice evolves into a banshee-like scream that is haunting. And the pictures painted by the band's music and Chuck's lyrics became so large and thematic. The music also became much more progressive and had so many spine-tingling moments.
Fantastic breakdown! I love to learn more about the recording processes in the 80s, and the organic flow of music. I like a lot of electronic music but there are days where I need to hear that raw humanity through some black metal chugs and screams, or a somber melodic death song. It's something in music that will always be desired!
Thanks a lot Geeb, I almost cried as soon as I saw on YT that you made this Death band video ...
Honestly, I was about to try to recommend you a song, but I was thinking about "The Philosopher". Maybe someday I will live to see you and you will not be disappointed with it.
Thanks a lot.
BTW. I recommend NEVERMORE band, one of my favorites, ever.
Chuck Schuldiner never wrote a bad song. They're all classics.
If you love Death you should definitely listen to Deify Thy Master by Pestilence. They're a Dutch band and I think one of the earliest extreme metal bands from The Netherlands. The whole album (Consuming Impulse) is a masterpiece. Their vocalist left after that album and went on to form Asphyx, another well known Dutch Death Metal bands
Yes MVD went to Asphyx but he didn't go on to form them. The drummer did.
@@Kalsarikannit72 oh I didn't know that I'm sorry
There's so much to delve into Death and the journey they take you on. No matter how many times I listen to them it's always fresh and makes me feel good.
Before Death became Death they were Mantas (83-84). Kam Lee was on main vocals and drums and is one of the originators of the growl (inspired by Tom G. Warrior from Hellhammer). His growl is crazy. Rick Rozz and Charles "Evil Chuck" Shuldiner were on guitars, Chuck on additional vocals. They had a basist for a short while. From Mantas came Death and Massacre, another influential death metal band. Oh, by the way, what you're hearing is Shuldiner on vocals, Lee was the vocalist in Massacre.
You need to do "Voice of the Soul" from their album The Sound of Perseverance. Excellent band to start diving into. They also have a real kickass cover of "Painkiller" featuring Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Keep on keepin' on Geebz! \m/
thats not Rob Halford, that's Chuck on the cover. Chuck was that gifted of a singer. I'd say Spirit Crusher and Voice of the Soul are the ones to do from that album
They have way too many awesome original songs to waste a video on a Judas Priest cover.
@@khellendross3573 Oh wow, you're right! I could've sworn the clean vocals were Rob Halford, that's one hell of an impression! But yeah, "Spirit Crusher" would also be great.
@@Gary_M Oh, you're one of those.
Please have a listen at their albums Individual Thoughts Patterns and Symbolic ! These will blow your mind !
my thoughts exactly
Been waiting forever for a death reaction! Can’t wait to see more! Thanks
That is one of my all-time favorite bands and I’m so happy you’re finally covering them. They are to make any recommendation for next song to listen to I’d say either “story to tell”, it shows so much technical proficiency and goes through so many amazing changes that will leave you guessing on single turn it takes wondering where the song will go next
Oh man I'd LOVE to see you do one of your long video to Death. So much to unpack. Chuck kept improving as a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter with each release and managed to recruit some of the most prolific, influential musicians in metal. Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert of Cynic, Andy LaRocque of King Diamond, Steve DiGorgio and Gene Hoglan who both played with numerous bands just to name a few.
It would be amazing if Geebz did a whole series on Death. 3 songs from each album maybe. I like this guy's insight and vibe
Crystal Mountain, Spirit Crusher, Flesh and the Power It Holds, Painkiller.... So many good Death songs. Actually kinda surprised to see this one chosen. Still a good one tho. Their drummer is top level.
Lol painkiller is not a death song, just an incredible Priest cover.
@@schaeferlawncarepropertyma4898 good to know
Love to see you reacting to more Death in the future. Literally every single track on the album Symbolic is a masterpiece, so you could just pick one at random. For the sake of recommendation i'll pick Empty Words for you, a hooky proggy death metal tour de force.
Well, there's only one thing left to do now: check out Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness"
Awesome! Chuck is sorely missed. So many good times seeing Death live.
can't wait for more death! you gotta check one song from each album in chronological order, it only gets better
Geebz just wait until you get to the other albums! so glad you finally checked out Chuck and Death !!
They played this song live in 1988, you should definitely check it out!
With how Geebz gushes over the "analogue" and "organic" sound of this, as well as how he seems to enjoy when you can tell how the musicians didn't have todays technology to sound perfect, I'd really love to see how he'd react to some old Kreator, with Ventor on drums. Songs like Tormentor, Total Death, Endless Pain, or Flag of Hate. I think he'd have a blast with it.
And yes, Death was the greatest band ever, and he should definitely go through all of it - if not on the channel then at least at his own leisure.
Death is one of the bands that have influenced metal (in general) sooo much. Please check voice of the voiceless.... instrumental... YOU WILL LOVE THIS!!! also spirit crusher, symbolic, philosopher, and one of my favorites '' flesh and the power it holds''
Each Death album is drastically different and great on it's own. He hired some really badass players, too. Try something off the "Human" album from '91. Crazy, weird-ass music. That's why I love it so much. 🙂
Oh man it's about time you touch Death. If you want some more technical stuff definitely go to their later albums. I'd love to hear your thoughts on any track off Sound of Perseverance (the album that helped me swallow the Death Metal vocals).
My top recommendations are:
Crystal Mountain
Trapped in a Corner
Bite The Pain
The other band that came out around the same time as Death - Possessed - also has some incredible tracks you should check out like Exorcist and Pentagram.
I was sixteen when this came out in 88. Went to the Mall we were just looking for bands we never heard of. The art work and Name of these songs sold me. Put it on on the way home. The minute it started i was hypnotised. Still listen to Death. The only band that got better and better with every release.
I think after this you should check out Entombed "Drowned"... and Napalm Death "Extremity Retained" ... to get a round out of the genre, a world tour.. (kind of a cool glimpse of some of the earlier genre stuff.. and no I am not claiming origins of the genre here just a few gems to get an idea of my ride through the genre back in the day, songs that remain with me)
who needs diatonic keys when you can just hop between random minor 2nds, tritones, minor thirds, and perfect fourths and fifths and hope for the best
This is one of those bands doing a song from each album from this one to the last one would be interesting. Especially getting this guy's take on the changes with each subsequent album
Yes, this 2014 reissue is a full blown remaster as well. It was a part of the entire catalog getting remastered in reverse order of release under the record label, Relapse Records, except for their 1995 album "Symbolic" because it was a Roadrunner Records release, and they never released the rights to it to the widow of Chuck. The funny thing is that Century Media put out a set of "remasters" in 2008, but honestly, they weren't much different than the original recordings. However the Relapse Remasters, which started in 2011, and ran thru 2016, were PROPER remasters in that they really went in and cleaned up the sound, got rid of the muddiness that was prevalent in the first three albums, and issued bonus discs for all albums. So they were considered Deluxe Releases. The bonus discs contained live versions, demo versions, instrumental versions, and rehearsals versions. These remasters are the best these albums have ever sounded.
You should also check out the proggier and more melodic side of Death, like "Trapped in a Corner". It's got fretless bass, a solo from one of the world's greatest lead guitarists and inhuman drumming by Gene Hoglan.
Yes!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Symbolic or Sound of perseverance please!!!
Such an awesome band! I don´t know how many times I´ve listened to this album back in the day. 🤘
got to see Death on this tour, the scream bloody gore tour, and the spiritual healing tour. phenomenal band
Time for my quarterly or so reminder that you have got to do Nymphetamine (Overdose). It's such an incredible track and I think it'll blow your mind!
That era of Death & another band from Florida, Atheist, that were pushing boundaries of thrash into more progressive areas & what would also become death metal were something else. All the dudes in Death went on to some amazing bands across numerous metal genres & stellar musical careers after Chuck passed.
Most people seem to prefer the Human album but I was always more partial to Individual Thought Patterns. Seemed like the tunes on that one had a bit more groove to go with all the technicality & speed bursts. Plus I like the "gooey" bass tone on that album. Suggestions from that album Overactive Imagination, In Human Form, Trapped in a Corner, Mentally Blind, The Philosopher
Yes!! Awesome! So happy to see this in my subscription box
Great reaction video. I enjoyed the fact you were speaking like tape oversaturation, interesting! 🤘
I would suggest you check out the band "Morbid Angel" and their song "Lord Of All Fevers & Plague". They are also from Florida and contemporary to Death. The usual argument is which was first, Death or Morbid Angel.
Hell yeah Geebz! 🤘🏻
Need to do a long format of Death to hear the progression of the band. The line-up changes though the years to get the sound Chuck wanted. So that's where the tech Death and progressive metal tags come from.
I think I was about 10 when this came out and some dude gave me a copy on cassette. Went home, popped it in, pressed play, and for me music changed forever. It was like someone found a way to shape and manipulate an explosion in to a piece of music. Half an hour later I wanted to learn to play guitar.
Very good and real reaction. Thanks for the honesty.
Right on! In terms of evolution of the genre, the immediate precursor to this was Slayer’s 1986 masterpiece Reign in Blood-check it out!
First time watching you. Very insightful on a band I have been a fan of since their start.
Arguably pioneers of Death Metal/Prog Death. So many great songs, but I would recommend first Spiritual Healing, Crystal Mountain and Flesh and the Power It Holds.
