Can't blame this one on Wilson. If the coach really wanted to win, Wilson was by far the best shot. The things that plagued this QB, by Payton's own admission, was the porous OL and no run game. And the same defense giving up points. This whole brouhaha with Wilson is just BS and Payton looks foolish.

Take the created by BRONCS d-forced TURNOVERS away, and an unforced penalty by BUFFALO away giving the BILLS a chance to miss the winning field goal at game’s end after they had put it thru the uprights on the kick before, and DENVER would have gone 6-9-0 with WILSON as a starter.
Add that to 5-12-0 the season before and he would’ve been 11-21-0 as a BRONCS starter.
Denver was 31st out of 32 teams in GOAL TO GO’s with WILSON as a starter this season..
With no running game to speak of, STIDHAM averaged more passing yds. per game in two games, than RUSS averaged in 15 contests this season with much better runningbacks’ games totals.

The Broncs led, thanks to one big WILSON play and a terrific catch by CORTLAND SUTTON vs. KC and their defense held off the Chiefs and set DENVER up with a turnover and short field TD.
The win vs. GBAY at 9-8 with a first year starting qb, based on the WAY WILSON played against NEW ENGLAND and DETROIT late in the season, and the way the PACKERS played to end their regular season, would not have occurred… at all vs GBAY by DENVER in DECEMBER, in large part due to WILSON, especially without an injured SUTTON, playing like crap= SEE N.ENG. and DETROIT and at the LA CHARGERS.
You really believe that 26-8 is sufficient when with a good qb, it would’ve been much better?

How many TD passes did WILSON complete in the red zone vs. good or very good teams? How many picks did he throw vs tds playing against good or very good clubs?

TIM TEBOW was 12-6 in TDPASSES VS. PICKS..TWO TO ONE RATIO, in 11 games..not bad in a much harder era to complete passes at intermediate distances down the middle of the field, before the defenseless receivers rule came in.
TD PASSES TO PICKS mean zip when you cannot convert third downs, unless.. of course you run for them which if that is the only way you can regularly convert, that is a weakness not a strength.
Secondly, that ratio means squat when your second and third quarter overall numbers are some of the worst in the league as a qb.
They came from behind to beat CLEVELAND when CLEVELAND used a backup and third string qback.
What did WILSON do against MIAMI, HOU., DETROIT, or losers like WASHINGTON, or the NY JETS?

The only time he took them on scoring drives from their territory was via a long pass play, and not on 10-15 play ball-hawking, clock eating series. If he took them on longer drives, he had to run at least twice himself, and on two major occasions he fumbled or threw picks, crapping games away.. with the NY JETS at home, and HOUSTON on the road= coming to mind..
Denver under WILSON was next to last in the NFL in goal to go situations..
CORTLAND SUTTON bailed WILSON out a lot, and once SUTTON was hurt, the party was over.
WILSON had lousy yards per completions and attempts= worse than 20th, and had one decent game on the road all season..
Yet HE WAS BEING PAID one of the highest salaries in the league..
He should’ve been benched.
And, he has some nerve virtually lying to the public about being “threatened” after the KC win vis-a-vis being benched if he did not move his deadline for injury payment up.
The truth is he was asked the first time to move it up or remove it..last summer IN THE OFFSEASON..before..

This team needs to start over: New GM, Head Coach and new QB. The coach is not sparking or relating to his players very well you can see that. The setback next year will be one of or any combo of all three.

8-9 is about what I expected as a fan this season. We’ve tried changing coaches. That hasn’t worked. Expect 30 percent roster turnover. Hopefully the new players will lead to more wins next season.

I honestly expected 10 wins and a wildcard berth. I thought it’d be a steady process of SP undoing the damage Hackett did in Denver and inheriting a roster that ended up just being extremely underwhelming. But seeing how the season really played out, 8-9 isn’t bad for a coach in his first year there with a QB not fitting his schematics and a roster needing help a lot of places.
I don’t think this upcoming season is going to be very good either, but it’ll be another step in draining the swamp and rebuilding the team to what Payton likes.

Discouraged absolutely, disappointed 💯. We got outplayed by a rookie and interim HC.
Our draft is limited to 6 picks currently, after cutting Russ we will be $~50M in dead cap and we are already projected to be about $20M over the cap without factoring the deadcap so FA will be non-existent. Our QB right now is Stidham who is not a starting caliber QB. Our DT get pushed around and the big LG & RT signings last year were highly disappointing.
Factor in all the FA we have coming up from Denver testing the market and I don’t see much of a bright spot right now.

So many problems with this team. I don't see very many positives, and haven't all year. Roster changes and some defensive and offensive coaching changes would be a good start to maybe a winning season in about 50 years.

Sean Peyton is absolutely the most overrated coach in the NFL! The worst team in the league (Patriots) come in and beat us! Everything was on the line for the Broncos! The game plan Peyton put in place, not Wilson but Peyton orchestrated was HORRENDOUS! He will never win another Super Bowl, he will be Broncos coach for maybe two more seasons!
