You cleaned all the oil off the crank and then applied the retaining compound which looked like a green sleeve retaining lock tight but then you did something that was counter productive. You applied oil to the inner part of the sleeve before installing. if your going to oil it then why clean the oil from the crank and why install the retaining compound? The retaining compound won't work if there is oil between the sleeve and the crank.
The flywheel has one offset bolt hole because there isa 3/8 nc bolt hole on the front face of it for locating #1 or #6 TDC. This has nothing to do with balancing anything..The flywheel can only be installed in one position on the crankshaft flange.

Hello, thank you for watching our video. No, you do not have to drain the oil before taking the seal out. The oil level should be below the seal. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Although it is not necessary to drain the oil for this procedure, we at Costex agree with Michael Fawcett’s answer, since it is always a good idea when servicing an engine, to do a complete oil and filter change. Mine has a dowel pin.
Some flywheels have weights to help balance the engine. I'm not sure if caterpillar is doing it but I know GM has been doing it for about 40 years.
