Agree that it is beautiful, but IMHO, I think your criticism is a touch harsh. I myself thought they were, for the most part, tasteful and restrained. As they build in the latter half, everyone jacks it up a notch, including Esperanza. I thought they were all respectful of the vocalist while adding a layer of complexity.
They were each in their own world. Milton' songs are so beautiful that often you can't resist adding more than it needs to. In a different setting, where you would have a drummer and no vocal+guitar singing the melody straightforward then there is room for all kinds of fireworks and exchanges. If you listen to Milton's recordings you understand the balance I am referring to. I know my criticism is uninvited. As I listen to this video again it doesn't bother me. They are inspiring sources and can do whatever they want, yet I assure you they would not approve this "take" on an album.
I agree. They should have started with a very minimal arrangement and then go into solos later. Also a bit of percussion would have helped to keep the instruments a bit more together feeling-wise.
The other musicians don't understand how self-contained Brazilian music can be ... hard to improvise over ... it can often be resistant to jazz improv ....
Leave Milton and guitar on stage, the performance alone is worth a million diamonds of 100 carat each !! What a fierce vocalist, instrumentalist, composer, writer & musician !! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I don't know how a black hole didn't originate from this stage. Simply the greatest musicians of our era, together. At the SAME TIME. Unbelievable.
First team: magnificent interpretation ! "Milton is of the world is Minas Gerais."
Theres too much epicness on that stage. Ita too beautiful, i dont know how the world didnt exploded.
Thanks for your kind comment, and glad you enjoyed the performance!
Un ejemplo perfecto de que a veces menos es más. Sin embargo, la buena musica nunca hace daño.
Beautiful. Can't Herbie and Wayne create some silence while Milton is singing! What an exchange of fire. Too much.

HH way overplayed destroyed the simplicity of this beautiful song drowned out Milton listen to the original for comparison [Verse 1]
I have crossed a thousand bridges
In my search for something real
There are great suspension bridges
Made like spider webs of steel
There are tiny wooden trestles
And there are bridges made of stone
I have always been a stranger
And I've always been alone
[Chorus]
There's a bridge to tomorrow
There's a bridge from the past
There's a bridge made of sorrow
That I pray will not last
There's a bridge made of colors
In the sky high above
And I think that there must be
Bridges made out of love
[Verso 2]
Vou seguindo pela vida
Me esquecendo de você
Eu não quero mais a morte
Tenho muito que viver
Vou querer amar de novo
E se não der não vou sofrer
Já não sonho, hoje faço
Com meu braço o meu viver

The thing is that Milton music always has this exotic tempo, i cant explain well in english
it was terrible indeed. A lot of wrong notes, lost beat and so...
Too much going on!!! Herbie is playing some other song I think. They lost me. F’ed up tempo!
QUE QUARTETOOOOO
Glad you enjoyed!
Agreed. Way too much. Loved the song for decades but couldn’t follow this after a while.
