- Sacred valley drive, river crossing, walking on train tracks, fighting for a ticket: all of this to discover the famous Machu Pichu (somehow)!
Last week we travelled from the desert all the way to Cusco. This week we are on our way to the most famous site of Peru by far: the Machu Pichu! We skip the traditional train for budget reason and decide to reach it in a different manner. Through this combo of intense roads and fascinating hikes alongs train tracks we definitely did not get bored.
Discover this legendary site with us!
Next week we embark for our last week in Peru and border crossing to Bolivia!
To be sure you do not miss what is coming up next, subscribe to the channel and continue travelling around the world with us!

Based on the detail and description you show wherever you go, you should be sponsored by the countries you travel through. You are providing a great service, both to these countries and peoples and also to potential interested parties. You show us how things work out there. Impressive
Hhahaha that would be fun!
That road!!! Not for the scared. Too bad you didn't get to see Machu Pichu without the clouds. It was still a great adventure. Thanks for filming it.
Even though the fog interfered, it was still an amazing experience. Thanks for another great video.
Travel is often about trade offs; yes, the weather wasn’t great at Machu Picchu but nevertheless still an astounding place rain or shine and Mathilde guiding us viewers was so charming! 😊
And, Nick got to do an awesome river crossing in Albo, some new Swiss friends were made, and the general awesomeness of the mountains and the crazy roads were all part of the adventure! 👍
Terrific episode guys!
Very true!
Fabulous!
Really!
Always fun to watch the scary driving. I can't believe that crazy German vehicle wouldn't have issues with height on that road. As much as I would like to see one of the wonders of the world it does turn me off to visit it too. I am sorry the weather didn't cooperate. I know what that feels like when you worked hard to climb a mountain and see nothing but clouds😊
The best time to visit Machu Picchu is between May & August. No rainy days, no fog.
Very true! It was so high but there are other construction trucks on the road so I guess that must have reassured them
Hello guys I always watch your videos and they are amazing but I have to say my experience there was a lot different maybe because we had an Inca guide who not only told us the real history of Machupichu and the hidden Inca cosmology behind each building but also took care of all the tedious things like getting the tickets. Having a guide that is part of the culture rather than the commercial focused tourist guides makes 1000% difference not only for Machupichu but all the sacred Inca sites.
👏🏻👏🏻 Excellent video 🎥 as always 😁 I really loved seeing the train passing by Nick. 🚉🚦
Glad you enjoyed it! Thqnks for watching
The same thing happened when I visited Meteora in Greece with a small group. The mist was so thick that Y that we couldn't see anything. There was an old Greek lady in the group who insisted that we had to go to a monastery that wasn't on the itinerary because she wanted to visit there before she died. As soon as the tour guide agreed that we would go all the must suddenly disappeared so we got to visit another monastery and enjoy the amazing view of Meteora.
Woooow over there that would awesome !!!
I laughed so much about Mathilde's comment on the big rig. "always Germans". Apparently that's so true. We're Germans too, but we prefer our 2012 Landrover Defender 😊. Thanks for another great video!
Hahahah i dont mean to say all Germans have big trucks 🤣🤣🤣 but when there is one it is often time German 🙌🏼
Or we Americans!
Great video couple!!! Tks for sharing!🙏🏼😍
Thanks for watching!
Well, I guess it’s good to know that Machu Pichu is a generous contributor to the Peruvian economy. It is an amazing spot! Your journey to get there was astounding-those cliff-side roads and the drone coverage of your drive made me thankful to be watching it all on TH-cam rather that sitting in the vehicle. Disappointing for you that the weather did not cooperate but your coverage of the site was super informative and very interesting. Thanks so much for the experience. Looking forward to the next instalment in your adventure.
Thank you Heather !!! Thanks for coming along the journée with us
@Mathilde, I enjoy your accent, and youthfulness … The Machu Pachu Foundation Stone Construction holds a much greater mystery 📚 🔐📚than your ‘tourist monologue’ 🖼️ hints at.
The opportunity just to tough those ‘stones’ …. Ahhh!!
👀👀👀🤔🤔🤔 👍🏻👍🏻😎
Your two Journey/Travels are Awe Inspiring. ❤❤❤
The fog adds to its mystique. Love the drone footage of the drive up there.
Totally!
great yourny love the machu in the mist thanks for the video
What a great video! That road was scary glad there wasn't a lot of traffic! The river crossing was kinda deep, very brave!! You never disappoint meeting the kindess people and always beautiful views. Safe travels
thank you Lizzz
مغامره جميله وتصوير جميل وانتم شخصين رائعين ومتفايلين تحياتي لك من بغداد السلام اخوكم ابو محمد ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Always amazing places and sights, . Always amazing places and sights, .
It really is!
Too bad you couldnt see the amazing views. I was there in 2010. We got up super early at 2am and hiked up to the top to see the sunrise over the Andes mountains. It was amazing place. When you got to the top the cold weather from the other side of the mountains changed very quickly.
wow that must be amazing indeed
Howdy Albies! Well another fascinating trip for us! Thanks very mucho! Appreciate the crowds thing…would rather be in the deep back country but such an iconic site I guess you grin n bear it! Be well!
agreed it is our dilemma too...
That big Expedition truck put a nice smile on my face to travel the world in....😊 could I tow a Defender as my scout vehicle? 🤔 😮
Go for it!
Another great video. I would love driving those small winding roads. Nick does an amazing job as the driver. I wish the weather had been better for you, but you still managed to show the beauty of the region.
thank you!!!
Very special to be in this country
really!
was there with my daughter in January this year. Protests broke out. Wasnt fun, very sketchy! Machu Pichu was closed down three weeks prior and the protests started literally on our way out of Mach Pichu. Nice geographically, not my favorite country I have visited. But I am sure it is awesome when its normal.
Yes I guess it must have changed the trip a lot. We really loved the remote mountain areas mostly!
Great information, thank you.
Our pleasure!
Always awesome, loved this whole venture, imagine how many people neede for that sort of construction. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Ah love seeing your landy flexing and wading along those mt roads . What a spectacular area . Would love to see it in it’s full views with out the fog and mist . Both times we went the day before and after had cloud breaks but not when we were there . 😕 . Clad you made the most of it any way . The history is awesome to learn about even with out the views . The Peruvian countryside is so beautiful and ever changing . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful travel memories with us your over landing friends . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin U.S.A. :) :) 🌎🍻👍🏼😁
thank you for watching!!!
@@NextMeridianExpedition ..👍🏼
Fascinating stuff - both the journey there and Machu Pichu itself. The contrast was stark between the deserted route and the tourist-packed destination. But poor Albo. You just got him kitted out for climbing and now you make him swim.
Yes it is a lot of variety !!!!
Guys, 💑Thanks for sharing, too bad about the weather and the hordes of tourist. But you saw Machu Picchu!🏔 My daughter did a tour group hike for 5 days from Cusco to Machu Picchu. For her 40th Birthday a few months ago. She loved it and had great weather. It is nice to have money and be able to hire a tour company to do all the work for you, like getting tickets and arrange food and lodging. But it helps the local people get good paying jobs. My daughter did check out the tour company to make sure they paid the workers a fair wage. Some tour companies in the past did not pay their workers a fair wage. People need to check out their tour company before booking a trip. You guys are able to really enjoy and see the countries; you are not just flying in for a week or two. Thank you for letting us sees your travels. Take care and stay safe. I love your channel, 💖Cheers 🍜🍜 (Two Dollar Lunch) 🤠
That s amazing what she did ! we actually wanted to do something like this at first. That s Cool she made sure it was a far tour company!
thank you for watching
we had a few episodes late because we were in Sardinia with our Defendi. What a pleasure to see you so happy on a wonderful adventure in a wonderful country.
Thank you for Watching and keeping up !
What a pity about the weather. Never mind it has been a great journey :) I dont envy you in all that mist and mud. Nick , i laughed when you went through all that water. The naughty boy in you lol . Exciting all the same. You always meet such sweet people willing to help you which is lovely.💕 Looking forward to next time. Sending much love x
Glad you enjoyed it Thank you!!!!
Nice video🎉
Thank you so much 😀
The trick is to stay in Aguas Calientes for a few days...until the weather changes smd you have clear skies. Then make a run for Machi Picchu.
YeZZZ, Polish engineer Ernest Malinowski designed Peru rail-way
Thanks!
Thank oui Warren that is super générons of you. We feel grateful We have you travelling alonside us
Nick, you are so bold to just charge across the river with apparently not checking the depth first!😄
Amazing places and beautiful trip you guys make even with the fog it was beautiful congratulations for the filming spectacular 👏👏👏💪
Thank you very much Lucio! hope all is well
@@NextMeridianExpeditioneverything is well around here but when I see you're videos it's stays a lot better for me is like I am seeing a movie 🍿🍿🎥🎥😁👍👍👍just love it 👏👏👏 I hope you guys are doing well big hug
@@lucioinacio4816 Thank you Lucio! That makes us happy to read ! Take care !
The drive up there looked like something I would really enjoy, and I do appreciate the amount of work, and the craftsmanship of constructing a site like Macchu Picchu, but not getting to enjoy the view would be a major bummer, and I'm with Matild on the crowds, and commercialism of such places.
(But I also do appreciate the much needed contribution to the local economy)
Thank you guys again for sharing your adventure with us!
Yes it s really a dilemma. It s impressive places but it gets really overwhelming and sometimes for some people not worth money or Time. We were still happy to have done it
It seems crazy to think aguas calientes is only accessible by train, yet there are so many people. The construction of fitting the stones together is very beautiful. Pity you couldnt see the beautiful view. I never heard about the way to walk the tracks to aguas calientes to get the tickets. Driving that road was scary. Looking forward to what is next.
Yes it is really crazy to think how this city grew all without road connection
“We’re you over Machu Pichu?”
“No, I don’t think I’ll ever get over Machu Pichu”😂
If nothing else you two got quite the work out with all those steps! I wonder if the fog is a sessional thing? Still an awesome adventure though! Definitely loved the river crossing. The deepest I’ve been is water up to the bottom of my seats.
omg that is a lot of water!
Awesome video as always Nick and Matilda. Even if Machu Picchu was so foggy it's still a stunningly amazing place. And with friends by your side you can make the best of the situation.
Yes it s Life! And you remembr it always
I saw one of those HUGE German trucks recently in Moab, UT. Did he go down that same shelf road? EEEEEK!
🙏❤️👌👍
🫶
Always amazing places and sights, ❤❤
They are!
Crazy how many tourists, we went in 2021 and it was very different, we just walked up to a small office to get the bus tickets 5 minutes.
yes some friends also were there right after the pandemic and it was still alright
quite a bit of this South American leg reminds me of Dirt Sunrise :)
Hey guys… maybe I should teach my new CM2s about the seven wonders 😉 The rentrée is behind us, so now I am starting to think, think, think… Still checking you guys out on my own every time you post a video… and it’s awesome! I’ll bring the kids into the loop soon ❤️ Jodi
amazing Jodi!!!!! I hope you are happy with the new class! good luck with the rentrée must be a busy time for you indeed
👋🏻🤠🇫🇮
Vu les endroits traversés dans les vidéos précédentes, je me demandais si vous alliez passer par le Machu Pichu. C’est vraiment bondé 😮. Dommage pour la météo. Bonne dernière semaine au Pérou
Bah on avoue on a hésité beaucoup. Nico y était déjà allé. Puis on voulait faire le trek salkantay mais la météo nous en a empêché … bon c est fait mais c est pas notre endroit préféré du Pérou
This is so great to see! Very helpful. We will be there next March. I keep reading that you have to have a guide and the prices are very high. That must be just for the Incan trail?
Anyways, this is very helpful to know what to expect. Thank you!
The Inca trail you need a permit for sure that you need to book in advance. I don’t know for the guide though. And it is indeed expensive. The Machu Pichu itself there are plenty of ways. There is another trail much more easy to organize but not as legendary I guess: the salkantay. You can do it in autonomy and get your tickets like us when you arrive at Aguas calientes
Sorry about the fog----I keep seeing you two eating here there and everywhere----have you ever been ill from it? What type of engine is in your LR? Where is your LR built? Thanks for the adventure----all the best from Nevada!
never been ill! fingers crossed! it is puma engine!
Same thing happened to us in Scotland. We wanted to go to the Isle Of Skye..Solid fog..Could not even see across the street. SOOOO what do you do in Scotland when that happens??? Go to the pub, have a pint and watch some soccer with the locals...Why not??
lol that was a great idea . Hope you enjoyed your visit to our country:)
@@themissdior1235 The Scots were all very accommodating and love to tell us the difference between a kilt and a skirt...lol Finished our time with a showing of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. We both just loved your country...
Hahahaha that s the way!!!
@@MrDonJBerg Im glad you got to see the Tattoo in Edinburgh my favourite city:) My daughter went to University there so i know it quite well. Take care:)
What?!
I can't believe you took the bus full of tourists to Machu Pichu!
I can understand why you took the car rather than the train, as the journey looks just as epic.
On the other hand, not climbing on foot spoils the experience for my opinion.
This is not a criticism, just my 2 cents.
Nop! Not everyone has dream weather to see Machu Pitchu. We've had a mixture of rain, fog and some sun ;-).
Hahaha I know we get it and tend to agree with you. We had a commitment a bit before the time of the entry and were a bit tight to go by foot on time. That s life !
First time watching this channel and immediately just like this girl from this channel. I can tell she is the pessimistic of the two, and he is the one always trying to be the optimistic one. I wonder for couples like this, does the optimistic get tired at some point or the live happily ever after.
hahahah welcome to the channel!!!
Too bad you had clouds at Machu Pichu. Still it must have been an experience to remember for a lifetime. No drone shots this time. Ha Ha. Love your music. Anyway, I am still here and following you weekly. What is that city in Argentina that looks Bavarian and was the refuge of Nazis? I guess you will be there in a month or so, but next it will be Peru. Should be great. 😀😇😜
Oh no idea ! will look it up eventually!!! thank you for watching
@@NextMeridianExpedition The name of the place is "San Carlos de Bariloche, usually known as Bariloche". It looks like a city in Bavaria. It couldn't all look like that, but that is what they show on TV. There are chocolate shops and other Bavarian type goods and restaurants. The area look like the Alps. The Nazi/Germans seemed to want to imagine they were back in the Fatherland. There is a Wikipedia entry for it. Just Google Bariloche. If I was there, I would have to go see it. Besides it is beautiful there. I think people from the east coast of S. America vacatiion there.
Machu Pichu, way too crowded.
I cannot believe there is so many tourist in the mountains and the roads are terrible so how are they travelling to these
parts of Peru.
Nick seems to be an adrenaline junky. I wonder how aware Matilde is in respect to the risk that he takes on almost every VT. Up to them what they do if they both agree on the risks involved. As a qualified off road driver, I am not relaxed about his risk assessments. So far so good, but if serious problems arise, they are goosed.
This looks like South Africa Government offices helping people not management.
What is your off-road app?
MapOut, very very useful
@@NextMeridianExpedition yes i can see it how useful it is from your videos 😉😉😉
Maybe karma played a role in the weather.. haggling that guy for $5 was disappointing. The people in those areas depend on tourism to survive. You guys are guests and visitors on their land.
Agreed 😞
Yes, the bald and bankrupt channel is so much more understanding 🙂
I m not sure you see it in context. The man announced a lower price (the one we ended up paying) to the car that was with us. And made half the price to a friend just a few days before. Plus we usually tip correctly and eat at their restaurant in the end so I don’t think it was incorrect of us to ask for the price that the car with us got announced. But I understand it is not the easiest to understand for people not in the situation.
No closed captioning, can barely hear the people talk.
ok
The rich travellers not wanting to pay the poor people full price, shame on you both 👎

it's hard to understand wehat she is saying
Come on she has a beautiful accent. Please dont nit pick.
Mathilde has a beautiful accent which I can understand perfectly as an English speaker.
Here’s the deal: There are 10 million other channels on TH-cam - why don’t you watch those rather than leave a moronic comment like that? 😡
thank you badfinger! best support
