This is the disease of the West and I live in the US. I grew up with very strict parents and the disease I refer to is too much freedom given to kids. There is no democracy in the household until the child earns it (I wish I thought of this) by being selfless and trustworthy. She has never faced with people with disabilities as they are integrated into the system (US) starting with elementary school (3yrs old) that have the special needs programs.

@joleigh1498 She was ashamed of herself, or did you totally miss the heart to heart she had both with the other girl AND her mother. She even said she learned that it's what's on the inside that counts. Clearly she is not the only one that has judgment problems.

Honestly I'd give more credit to the dad and just both the parents in general. The dad was so gentle and understanding which got her to open up just enough for her to want to work on things. I don't think their parents in the UK really take the time to try to really be there for and guide their children. Seems like they were emotionally neglectful for so long until they couldn't handle their daughters by themselves anymore.

So many parents allow their children to get away with bad behaviour as youngsters and suddenly behave when they reach their teens,
Parenting is hard work, it requires boundaries, riles and most of all consistency.
Parents, whether together or divorced, should be together on corrections and punishments.
Sending kids away to be ‘fixed', may work at the time but if parents don’t change too, it will be short lasting.
