    Thanks for the memories, I rode the 6000's on a regular basis as a kid in the 50's

    I drove those trains on the old Congress line. Later, the 2200.

    Very cool! 👍 🙂
    Will always remember those interiors with brown vinyl padded seats(YES! PADDED SEATS), incandescent lights and windows that people could open with chrome crank handles. NO air conditioning-NO problem!!
    Thanks for preserving and sharing these historic video clips for people of all ages to see and enjoy-especially the young who never had the chance to ride and experience them when they were in regular daily operation.
    🚞🚞 ❤ 🇺🇸 👍 🙂 🚞🚞

      It had Bullseye lights, the same types used by the Chicago PCC trolleys from 1938 to 1948 when they were delivered. The same interior lights were also used by the Boston PCC trolleys.

    The St Louis Car Co. locomotive seen at 0:50 is a former Illinois Terminal Railroad, Class B, electric locomotive (it was eventually donated to the National Museum of Transportation at Kirkwood, MO. where you can see it today).

    just rode 6711 a few weeks back at the rodeo. interesting how despite looking so different, they have a lot of similarities in the details with "modern" 2600s

    The fellow with the cane during the Skokie unloading sequence was Harold Otis, chief rail equipment engineer. He dated back to the Insull years.

    Not too far removed from when we moved them after that except in the "future" it was onto a truck.

      lcar4000 I think there are some cars at a railroad museum. But yes, it would've been nice for the CTA to keep a few for themselves.

      CTA has since re-acquired two pairs of 6000s for the historic fleet, and is currently working to return one of them to service.

    There are also 2 6000 series cars at the rail museum in Kennebunckport, ME (Seashore Trolley Museum).

    • @erniebaud
      @erniebaud 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They have been there out in the weather since 1992. They have never operated and are currently deteriorating inoperable. They are also located in a part of the yard that is inaccessible to the public. A real shame the condition they are in. Seashore is not as well funded as IRM.

    • @MA-wq2ih
      @MA-wq2ih 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@erniebaud Those were the cars that I rode on the final 6000 trip in December of 1992. While I'm glad they didn't go to the shredder, it breaks my heart to see their current condition.
