Very good Tobin! I had one of these when they first came out, but I gave it to a buddy getting him started on the wet shaving journey. PAA has done a great job with bringing vintage products into the modern times and I've almost picked up the King which I think this one is based on. The nice thing about getting one from PAA is you can put it to use without restoring an old one and the PAA version is a real beauty. Have a great week!
Right? I love them! Have a good one Jeff! If you do and you're up to it use my link. It let's Doug know that my video helped you make the decision and I get a commission
Great review, Tobin! I recently acquired an Assension Select with a Desert Turquoise flare tip a little over a month ago. I like using it when I have 3 days of growth or more. Very efficient. However, IMHO, it does take practice to find the right technique with it. This is my 3rd razor along my wet shaving journey. Have a great day!! 👍👍👍
@Tobins_throwbacks yes I do. As I have used it more I have learned a little more on how to handle it and adjust it is accordingly. I'm happy with my purchase. It will continue to be in my regular rotation.
Nice review. I agree this is a great 2nd or 3rd razor. For adjustables like this I would also give the minimum efficiency number so they have an idea of where it starts. I keep forgetting about this one as the rounded cap razors give me issues on head shaves but are fine for the face. Have a great week
Thanks Mike! I agree I actually thought about that when I was watching the video that I should have given a rating number for the minimum efficiency. I talked about the Gap but I didn't give it a number I should have it would have been really low and that might have made more sense to newer wet shavers. Have a great week!
I have been looking into getting my second DE razor, edwin jagger de89 bieng my first and have been interested in the ascension select for a little while now after seeing you and your son use it during one of your outdoor shaves at the golf course. I'm really glad you made this great review and making up my mind for me. Looks like I will be a future PAA razor owner! Thanks again Tobin, for all your great content!
I love this one as well and I have the purple tip and man it just makes it look so good. I want the copper one as well but don’t know if it’s redundant or not.
I agree! It's a little redundant owing this one and the copper to be honest. They are extremely similar. The only "real" difference is the weight and feel in the hand. In my opinion, they shave the same.
Great vid, Tobin, thank you! Love your thoroughness on these reviews. You've sold me on this one. I've been looking at open combs for a while and this is likely the one I'll pull the trigger on. When you have time (hahaha), if you haven't already, I'd be interested in your take on open comb vs. scalloped comb vs. closed comb. Cheerio!
Love my Ascension Copper... Don't want to keep on looking and then get the one you are reviewing 😅! It is a good shaver with lots of flexibility. As for a cheap, adjustable razor...there is the Vikings blade Emperor Augustus on Amazon for about 32 usd. Is a damn good hefty SOB. I'll be shaving with it soon on video.
100% I'm still on the fence with Viking. To be honest, though, I still haven't owned one. Just reluctant to buy one. Your comment has me second-guessing that. Have a good one!
Great review. I been eyeing this razor for a while. The only thing I’m concern is when you adjust it, by means of loosening the handle, does it moves on you while shaving or does it stay where you set it to?
Great info as always!
Right on, thanks John!
Great review and awesome catch BTW👍
Thank you very much!
Another great review
Thanks!
One helluva snerdly video!!
😊😏🙏 thanks!!!
The 🐐 delivered again! Thanks Tobin

Thanks Brian! It does take a little getting used to. Do you feel like it was a good 3rd razor purchase?

Zamac is the same metal hotwheels are made out of and they take a beating at least mine did lol
Right!?! 🙏👍👍

Interesting razor! And I love that shirt, Tobin! 😊😊😊
@Kenoji8 thanks Dev! Interesting indeed! I love it!
Hope you're doing well, have a good one!
That matte black is so clean. I'm starting to really dig OC razors.
So weird that you reviewed this razor, I was just looking at these! Think I’ll be picking one up
That's awesome! Great shavers!

I actually bought our son his own shortly after that golf shave. It's his daily driver now. Have a good one!
I’ve got the Stainless and the Copper. Beautiful shavers! Wonder if Douglas will come out with others? Yep, sure he will! And I look forward to it!
I hope so! 🙏 I love them all!
