This was my third winter garden. At first I was surprised anything grew over the winter, but now I've gotten used to it. I used to think of gardening in Maryland Zone 7A as May through October, but it's easy to stretch that to March through November with the right plants and a little protection. December, January, and February are still a challenge - but not impossible. You just have to try and see what works. Everyone's garden is unique. - Clay
I prefer to think of it as an aggressively renewable resource. I recently got a cutting board made from laminated layers of bamboo, and I've seen bamboo flooring too. One of my neighbors digs up bamboo shoots in spring and cooks them. It multiplies so fast! I'm not sure I can get rid of it completely with resorting to the home garden version of Agent Orange, but I try to keep it in check. It multiplies so fast!
