I think "love between people and people" is not only gender neutral. Because you could replace "people" by so many words : 2 men, 2 women, a man and woman but also between a mom and son, brother sister, friends. These relationships all involve love but they don't have to be romantic and that's what makes their album so rich, you can listen to it on so many levels : sadness because you lost your lover but also sadness you feel about relationships with friends or family that sometimes contains a lot of sadness.
