    Holy $hit! You invested an enormous amount of time/love into this review. The graphics that visually show the effect of moving up/down trim levels must have taken you days to isolate/size. In an extremely crowded car review field - your attention to detail is a standout. Where most reviewers try to tickle us with their wit, you provide a single place to effortlessly perform most of our research. Well done.

    Cadillac do have some unique styling cues that I love. The integration 3rd brake light rear spoiler & the hidden cue storage compartment plus that Cadillac emblem in the rear taillights, nice touch!

    So my mom’s XT5s cruise isn’t working properly and the transmission is acting weird, but we’re okay that it’s in the service department because they gave her a brand new 2018 XTS loaner car. I love driving it. It’s extremely soothing. The steering is so effortless and it’s insane. And it looks so much better than the pre facelift XTS. However the infotainment screen and center stack buttons are eh (the XT5 is way more nicer and intuitive) and the transmission has been hesitant to upshift a couple times. You can tell a couple of the interior amenities aren’t from the most recent Cadillacs, but it’s still really refined. Also I’m really still confused as to where the XTS fits on Cadillacs lineup. One thing I found quirky is the extremely thin steering wheel with no contouring grip points, but that’s okay. Also looking outward you can’t see the hood at all. I found that very different. I like the shifter in this car as opposed to the wannabe BMW shifter in the XT5. Another thing I found is that the XTS luxury has surround vision and the XT5 premium luxury doesn’t have surround vision which I found ridiculous. Overall I have enjoyed driving the car the last couple days.

    • @scottwilkins
      @scottwilkins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My wife's XT5 is 100% perfect in every single way. Personally, I'm at odds on the older stack that was in the SRX and in this XTS compared to the new XT5. I guess I'd like the XT5 better if it still had the haptic feedback on the panel and screen. That was nice. Almost all cars these days are hesitant on upshift in order to maximize fuel savings. You can push to upshift at any time though, so that's a learning thing on your part. And, no need being confused with the XTS when it sells so well, why should Caddy stop making it? Why kill a profitable item? I agree on the surround vision, that should be standard on all premium and up models. Cadillac does seem to have issues with feature offerings between vehicles.

    Forgive my ignorance, but what causes the flickering lights due to frame rate? Is that the result of a really good camera, or a "not-good-enough" camera? Ex: does a lower performance camera not capture this happening but the very expensive cameras will?

    • @CarConfections
      @CarConfections  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My understanding is that is simply caused from the cameras frame rate (30 fps in our case) getting in sync with the headlight's frame rate. It captures a frame in the tiny moment where the headlight is "off" (even though this happens so fast human eyes can't see it). It won't matter how expensive the camera is, only what frame rate it is recording at. Thanks for tuning in!

      Another small detail is that LED lights do not stay on 100% of the time. They'd burn out super quickly if they did, so they flicker to keep cool and longer life. (I think there are other reasons too, but that's what I remember.) All LED lights do this. Flashlights, house lights that are all LED flicker. To the human eye, you can't see this. But to a camera it's very apparent.

    Hey Car Confections, I got a question for you. Does CarPlay and Android Auto require cellular/mobile data?

    • @CarConfections
      @CarConfections  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it uses the data from your phone to run. Without data the functionality is very limited or nonexistent. Happy New Year!

    • @scottwilkins
      @scottwilkins 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, no it doesn't require cellular data on your phone to work 100%, but the system might complain about it. If you want to use maps, you'll need to either download off-line map data or the maps won't work.

    • @bebopman5
      @bebopman5 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were supposed to kill this caddy as soon as the CT6 came out, similar to how Lincoln killed the MKS when the Continental came back. But I guess they're keeping it in place of the old STS.

    • @scottwilkins
      @scottwilkins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Transverse engine doesn't matter. They put 9 speeds in vehicles much smaller than this. My guess is this car's days are numbered and Cadillac doesn't want to spend the money engineering the change.

      @Nightbird. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. Continental exterior styling is incredibly boring and generic looking compared to the XTS. Customers are complaining the seats lack enough foam and are too hard for long trips..which is a huge mistake in a luxury car. The rear seating roof is also to low for people over 5' 10". These are all reasons the Continental is a huge sales failure and has been discontinued by Lincoln.

    This would have been a decent review except for your snot nosed comment about the base/luxury gauges which is only YOUR opinion. Many owners really like them because they are attractive and are real gauges instead of computer generated ones - which are also nice, each to their own. Don't be so snot nosed judgmental.
