Demko was pulled after battling the flu the whole game and barfing in his mask. He didnt want to leave and asked the trainers to wipe it away. Hardcore
Last season murphys law was in effect for vancouver.. All the D injuries, Demko getting hurt, the horvat contract trade saga, the disconnect between GM, president and Boudreau etc.. yet and still we finished above 500 with ahl goalies and ahl defencemen for over half our games. Fast forward to now and we have the coach sorted, got a tidy return for horvat, plugged in some better bottom 6 depth and penalty killing, 3 new actually serviceable nhl defenseman, and surprise surprise we look like a good hockey club. Noteworthy as well is the gap management between Ds and Forwards, how we are closing out the front of the net, and we actually look structured in how we are positioning ourselves on defence. This lead to many counter attacking chances in this game, as well as several power plays. As always we will have the worst schedule in the nhl later on in the season, with illogical 7 or 8 game road trips spanning 15k miles or some such nonsense, its imperative that we get point on the board early and often, in what is easily the deepest division in the NHL. Lets stay positive...

I remember last season's first game of the season, with the Canucks racing out to a 3-0 lead and then Edmonton scoring 5 consecutive goals to come from behind and win the game 😔 But not today! That was a season opener for the books, GG Canucks and the energy displayed was great to see. Boeser's output was a delight to behold, Garlands goal, though... Pettersson laid the perfect pass for him to skate onto, but Garland's hands? I thought it was a deflection off the pass, but the replay showed him collect, control and net the pass. Absolutely superb. My dude Joshua got into a scrap and potted a goal, I'm impressed with the guy, frankly. Then the Oilers got whiny about having eight scored on them. If you play badly enough to have eight scored on you then you deserve to have eight scored on you. Go Canucks!

Ekholm is the most important player on the Oilers. They don't have the blueline or the goaltending to play their "give up 6 but try to score 7" game without him. I seriously just don't see how the Oilers are being considered cup contenders, they're built completely wrong.
He rounds out their defense core for sure. But this was far beyond what 1 player could fix. Like how McDavid gives up the second goal by just being between Boeser and the puck carrier without even having his stick on the ice being emblematic. Intensity and attention to detail needs to increase.
@@bajjanitor The oilers don't have a lack of depth, they have a lack of team. They have two really good players and beyond that, they have people doing their own thing. It's blatantly easy to see, they're a terrible team and have hype on top of it. None of them chase the puck, they have a bunch of prima donna princesses in a game that's very physical, without them wanting to participate and it shows. They're a team that has highlight reels for the NHL to advertise with and it shows. It's gross as hell, and that's why the league's fan base is done with the whole lot of them.
I fully agree the oilers soiled this one, but it’s one game out of 82, I wouldn’t sell the farm to bet against the oilers because of one poor performance, even multiple poor performances. It’s kind of how this this team works they suck and then they come back and remind you that they are actually one of the best teams in the league with yes, two superstars, but it’s a team game and when they play well it’s not just those two guys. There is a team there it’s still the basically the same team that went full nuclear down the stretch last year.

Ekholm is the most important player on the Oilers. They don't have the blueline or the goaltending to play their "give up 6 but try to score 7" game without him. I seriously just don't see how the Oilers are being considered cup contenders, they're built completely wrong.
He rounds out their defense core for sure. But this was far beyond what 1 player could fix. Like how McDavid gives up the second goal by just being between Boeser and the puck carrier without even having his stick on the ice being emblematic. Intensity and attention to detail needs to increase.
@@bajjanitor The oilers don't have a lack of depth, they have a lack of team. They have two really good players and beyond that, they have people doing their own thing. It's blatantly easy to see, they're a terrible team and have hype on top of it. None of them chase the puck, they have a bunch of prima donna princesses in a game that's very physical, without them wanting to participate and it shows.
They're a team that has highlight reels for the NHL to advertise with and it shows. It's gross as hell, and that's why the league's fan base is done with the whole lot of them.
I fully agree the oilers soiled this one, but it’s one game out of 82, I wouldn’t sell the farm to bet against the oilers because of one poor performance, even multiple poor performances. It’s kind of how this this team works they suck and then they come back and remind you that they are actually one of the best teams in the league with yes, two superstars, but it’s a team game and when they play well it’s not just those two guys. There is a team there it’s still the basically the same team that went full nuclear down the stretch last year.

Oilers were the only team that gave Vegas a fight last year .They are super talented team with two best players in the world. I bet every penny and every possession I own that they'll finish ahead of the Vancouver Canucks after 82 games It's one game.

Each week it ages more poorly. The oilers are as a bad as the Canucks were last year. They're already a dozen points behind the Canucks and we're only 11 games in. That's an appalling for that short of a time span.
