The people that ask "Why is it taking so long" have never put a car together in their life, so will never understand. You're attention to detail pleases my vehicular OCD.
Just finished watching “Enforcer and the Dude” were they visited Larry at the warehouse. And they were talking about the 1993 Commador, and now your talking about it as well. GREAT STUFF. Love the information you give about the cars. Love your channel!!!
Great work Jack. As much as I love Larry, seeing Greggs name on the car brought a tear to my eye, taken way too soon. I remember Gregg serving me at City Yamaha here in Brisbane when he was owner(or part owner) of that particular bike shop. As always, your passion burns bright and I respect you immensely for that, well done.
Great job Jack. We do very much live in an immediate world these days where the expectation is that everything should happen straight away. Take phone calls for example; not so long back you would ring someones home phone and it was a bonus if they answered, now we expect people to be available to take our call 24/7. I say that in relation to your restoration of these cars, it's a very time consuming job to number 1, source all the right parts etc and stay true to original build and then there's the time required to do the work. Yes it can happen quicker if you have the time and money to do nothing else but not everyone has that luxury. There's one thing for sure though, the finished cars will be awesome and true collectibles from a very influential man in our motorsport history. I love that you're honoring your fathers legacy in such a meticulous way, he must be proud.
Jack your the best thank you for the updates and so sorry for finishing up Bathurst early. Watched all of it and heart sank when you hit the wall, loved the helmet and the Larry comment legend keep it up.
Thanks for the in depth close ups of such iconic beautiful cars. Also at the 12 hour I was able to snap a picture with you and just how cool you were about it was absolutely the highlight of my weekend. Keep up the great work and hope to see you racing soon;)
Great job as usual, Jack! It must be a hell of a job sourcing some of these parts, love that you are sticking to authenticity. Nice subtle advertising with the mini robot, too, I look for it now in every video ;)
People have been asking you why it takes so long🙄 Really! Too the standard you are working to Jack I think you are getting through it rather quickly. The level of detail is second to none just outstanding & that takes times & I tip my hat too you sir I think you should enter them in Summernats you would get a trophy or two. . Bad luck in the 12 hour mate it can happen to the best of them don’t be too hard on your self. Even your old man stuck it into the fence entering the pits at Bathurst on a wet track wth slicks. Love ya work mate. Would of liked a video on the Merc GT3. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
I understand that in period these cars weren't built slapdash, but the effort to get them back as close to original is commendable. I do hope that a certain Duke who has a rather famous drive gives you an invite to drive up there when they are done, they certainly would be worthy of that.
Hi jack, why are the coolers only used on those races? Is that just distance of the race and temperature control? Just awesome work by the way! - so refreshing to see someone so passionate and dedicated to a long restoration not one that is hobbled together just to satisfy the masses!
Yeah the Championship sprint races back then weren’t long enough to need diff and gearbox coolers, and they didn’t race in Darwin or hot street races like Townsville and Adelaide in February/March. Cheers
Hey Jack, absolutely love your work mate! Just a quicky, can’t remember if you have covered it or not, but were these brand new shells from Holden, or were they converted road cars when they were first built?
Nah not converted road cars, 1994 car was a 1/2 Dencar shell and we believe the 1993 car was a Dencar shell. Dencar were a fabrication company who basically did some of the conversion work on the new Holden shells to make them race cars, air jack mounts, rear diff trailing arm boxes and mounts etc.
They are made by a company called K&A Engineering in Adelaide. You jack up the car, slide the base level stand in, then let the air out of the car. The car is now off the ground sitting on the stands. The stands then have a tab at the top that slides across creating a new base for the air jacks at the top of the stands. Raise the car again and you are at twice the height now and insert another safety into place and you're away!
Bugger all at the time, but that’s because the Holden was 4-5 years into development and the Chev only a few months. Where the Chev finished in 2002-03 it was probably 40-50hp more but the Holden could’ve made the same numbers with the same development time
@@perkinsengineering I wonder if you might do a video at some point explaining the pros and cons that the chev engine and Holden engine have over each other? Displacement was almost identical but I'd imagine there's a few differences internally..
God i miss the days these cars were running, it was great right up until V8 Supercars went to what it is now. Loved the Group series from the 80's right up until the 90's

Amazing to see these two cars almost exactly as they were in 93/94 races! 👍👍

Attention to detail is impeccable Jack. Look forward to the next episode.

Thanks.
Love the attention to detail Jack. Why does each of the fuel tanks appear to have an approx 8mm hole in the side?
Not 100% sure what you mean, they could be for mounting the rear shock canisters on the sides

Bathurst in October and 1000kms, things get hot, that hill is a killer. Especially 1994 which was a drought year and hotter still. Jeff

Jack, how do those safety stands work. I've seen them in the pits at various races but have never seen how the car is raised or lowered.
They are made by a company called K&A Engineering in Adelaide. You jack up the car, slide the base level stand in, then let the air out of the car. The car is now off the ground sitting on the stands. The stands then have a tab at the top that slides across creating a new base for the air jacks at the top of the stands. @@perkinsengineering Thanks Jack. I've always been intrigued by them but have never seen how they work. Great videos by the way.
Jack, I saw those cars when new. They were never that fastidious!!
Yeah they’re probably better than new, but they required an enormous amount of work to get them back to how they were back in 93 and 94
So good Jack, what was the power difference between the Holden and Chev?
Bugger all at the time, but that’s because the Holden was 4-5 years into development and the Chev only a few months. Where the Chev finished in 2002-03 it was probably 40-50hp more but the Holden could’ve made the same numbers with the same development time

Hi jack why is the washer bottle mounted to the left rear door mate
Weight distribution. Driver sits RHS so any added weight goes on the LHS.
@@perkinsengineering is that the same reason for the oil filter?
@@alexjohnward no not really, that’s more so it’s chassis mounted not engine mounted

Did you always use VP Calais taillights?
We used whatever Holden gave us, normally factory seconds

Jack why don't you use car hoists I would like to now ? The reason.
Christopher from Queensland
We never used hoists, can’t use them at the circuit!
What happened to the 96 car
It’s currently being restored by the owner
The people complaining about how long it's taking have obviously never owned a project car 🤣
True!!!
Just get a cheaper windscreen and write pilkington on it with a black texta pen. Good enough.
