    👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH: teespring.com/...
In this episode, David takes us with him as he checks out the top things to see and do in Ohrid, Macedonia - a city at the center of Lake Ohrid tourism.
David starts with what to see in the city of Ohrid. He begins in the Old Town, which is home to several beautiful buildings like the historic Robevci House. He then makes his way up the hill to see some of Ohrid’s historical monuments. First up is St. Jovan de Kaneo, a Byzantine-style church perched above the shore of Lake Ohrid. This is one of the most photographed places in Macedonia.
Another beautiful church to check out is St. Clement Church. David’s guide Zivka gives some background on St. Clement. Then it’s time to head to to Tsar Samuil’s Fortress for amazing views over Lake Ohrid. Samuil was Tsar of the First Bulgarian Empire and best known for defending Bulgaria against Byzantine domination. He eventually moved the capital of the Empire to Ohrid and built one of the greatest strongholds in the Balkans. Today the fortress is a great place for panoramic views of the Lake and the city of Ohrid. Admission is 30 Macedonian denar.
Up next: The Roman Theatre. It was built to accommodate 4,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial battles. Recently it was uncovered and is free to enter. The acoustics here are wonderful!
Heading back down the hill David visits one of the most important monuments in Macedonia, the Church of St. Sophia. Again, Zivka chimes in with some more information about the Church. The surviving frescos dates back to the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries.
David and the team walk back to the main square of Ohrid to shop for Ohrid’s famous pearls. He introduces us to a man whose family was the first to bring the tradition to Macedonia. The Talev family workshop has been here since 1924.
David reminds us that no visit to Ohrid is complete without first taking a boat ride on Lake Ohrid. From here, you’ll get magnificent views of the city and lakeshore. Hire a local captain from the Ohrid Marina for one-hour tour.
The next day, David embarks on his first day trip from Ohrid, bringing him south of the city to National Park Galicica. The park separates Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. It’s a popular with hikers and nature lovers who want to enjoy the clean, fresh air and stunning views of the lakes and towns below. You can also take your own car like David did.
A visit to the Monastery of St. Naum and the Black Drim springs is also a fantastic day trip from Ohrid. The monastery is located on a rocky outcrop at the southernmost part of Lake Ohrid near the Albanian border. Inside this cross-shaped church is the tomb of St. Naum. David sees if the local legend is true - you can hear St. Naum’s heartbeat if you put your ear to his tomb… it’s up to you to judge!
Once finished seeing St. Naum, David heads down to the riverbank to hire a rowboat to take him to see the crystal clear springs of the Drim River.
So that was David’s list of top things to see and do in Ohrid. Definitely one of the highlights of his Macedonia trip and a gorgeous destination to experience in the Balkans.

We were Macedonians! We are Macedonians! We will remain Macedonians! Macedonians for ever!
Macedonia is Macedonian, Greece is Spartan, Athenian and Cretan... Feel sorry for all the uneducated people and for those who think that Macedonia is Greek! So sad :-(

    • @nikolathegreat1526
      @nikolathegreat1526 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Ah Kassiopeia my girl feel sorry for you :-( By the word "Propaganda" what do you mean?
      Let me ask you something!?
1.What language did Alexander spoke? Greek or Ancient Macedonian (Indo-European language similar to Greek with Tracian and Ilirian character!)
2.Witch gods did Alexander worshiped? Greeks or Ancient Macedonian ones like Ile, Ma, Verve, Ane?
3.Was the region that you Greeks call Macedonia - Northern Greece always Greek? or it was one of the parts making up Macedonia (Aegean, Pirin and Vardarian)
4.Did the people that you call Greko-Macedonians always lived in Aegean Macedonia or after the exile of the Macedonians they came back from Turkey?
      Explain to me the names:
*Macedonia: Make-Mother in Ancient Macedonian, Don the family of Ile (god of the sun and fire) and Ma (Goddess of flower and nature)
      *Alexander: Defender of Man/Human/People
      *Philip: Lover/ he ho loves
*Olimpia: She ho gives birth to heroes
Can you tell me where was the first capital of Macedonia? It was in Old Bonche-Mariovo-Modern-day Macedonia, Build by king Perdika!
Do you know where Philip was born? He was born in Polchista also in Macedonia, He had relatives who in the 6th century when the Slavs cam to the Balkans mixed in with theme creating the Modern day Macedonians!
P.S Love from Nikola from the real Macedonia, There is a country in the Balkans made up of SpartanoAthenianCretanTurks who are trying rally really hard to name there country Macedonia, that country's name is Greek Shit/Republic of Shitty Greece/ Balkans Disney Land! And can you please do the world a favor by killing your self!

Leonor Prado - The region of Macedonia is most assimilated and and suppressed region of the whole world and - I believe - that`s the reason why is *The Macedonian call* in the Bible. www.bibleserver.com/text/ESV/Acts16,9
With *the Gospel* is happens something special to all people who believe in *The Pure Gospel (Jesus)!*
      www.bibleserver.com/text/ESV/Colossians3,11
The ancient Macedonian tribes were uncultured barbarians and not belonging to the Hellenic culture, but they were permanently hellenized by the greeks. That's the way they started to have Greek names, to speak Greek and to write Greek. That's assimilation! Of course Alexander the great speak Greek and was Greek too, because his mother was Greek, his teachers were greeks … but his ancestors (paternal side) were ancient macedonian! The ancient (barbarian) Macedonian tribes were hellenized (by ancient Greeks), Illyrized (by Illyrian), romanized (by Romans), christianized (by Byzanz), slavised (by Slavs) bulgarized (by Bulgar's), serbised (by Serbs), islamized (by Turks), albanized (by Albanians) ... but deep in their genes are still the ancient macedonian (barbarian) genes. It is interesting to know that the Greeks have always joined in the assimilation of the Macedonian tribes. The exception where the Greeks did not actively help by the assimilation of the Macedonians, are the Romanization and Islamization. The current behavior of Greece is further evidence of that! All these assimilation's of the ancient Macedonians, were more or less violent, be it physical or psychological nature. In moment we learn the Psychological/Diplomatic (Greek) kind of assimilation, in the form of new disintegration of Macedonia!

hey man since you were in Macedonia and in a lot of Balkan countries i think that Albania should be your next destination.I've been there and I can recommend you some places: City:Shkoder, when in Shkoder you NEED to go the Rozafa Castle or Fortress. City:Pogradec, everything about Pogradec is beautiful,it's antique and everything and it got a good view. City:Tirana,to put it simple...Tirana is fun, beautiful and vibrant. Place:Voskopoje, its a village in the city of Korce but it is one hell of a place to go...It got antique roads, buildings and the most important thing,it has got the best air(with another village in Belarus)in the world so yeah its worth visiting. And also visit Berat,Vlore,Saranda,Korca(the city),Durres. Anyway if you ever go to Albania you may use this comment as a "Guide to Albania" lol.Have a nice day and continue to do this great job :D

Samuel was the fourth[20] and youngest son of count Nicholas (Bulgarian: комит Никола), a Bulgarian noble, who might have been the count of Sredets (modern-day Sofia),[21] although other sources suggest that he was a regional count somewhere in the region of Macedonia.[22] His mother was Ripsimia of Armenia, the daughter of King Ashot II of Armenia.[23] The actual name of the dynasty is not known. Cometopuli is the nickname used by Byzantine historians which is translated as "sons of the count". The Cometopuli rose to power out of the disorder that occurred in the Bulgarian Empire from 966 to 971.
They just invaded , occupied and ruled in today Ilyrian Macedonia

Extreme Macedonian nationalists, who are concerned with demonstrating the continuity between ancient and modern Macedonians, deny that they are Slavs and claim to be the direct descendants of Alexander the Great and the ancient Macedonians. The more moderate Macedonian position, generally adopted by better educated Macedonians and publicly endorsed by Kiro Gligorov, the first president of the newly independent Republic of Macedonia, is that modern Macedonians have no relation to Alexander the Great, but are a Slavic people whose ancestors arrived in Macedonia in the sixth century AD".
(Loring M. Danforth Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Bates College, Lewiston, Maine)
"The Macedonian people and their kings were of Greek stock, as their traditions and the remains of their language combine to testify."
[John Bagnell Bury, "A History of Greece to the Death of Alexander the Great", 2nd ed. (1913)]
"That the Macedonians and their kings did in fact speak a dialect of Greek and bore Greek names may be regarded nowadays as certain."
[Malcom Errington, "A History of Macedonia"]
"And yet if we take into account the political conditions, religion and morals of the Macedonians, our conviction is strengthened that they were a Greek race and akin to the Dorians."
[Ulrich Wilcken, "Alexander the Great", (1967)]
"Nowadays historians generally agree that the Macedonians form part of the Greek ethnos; hence they also shared in the common religious and cultural features of the Hellenic world."
    [M.Oppermann, "Oxford Classical Dictionary", 3rd ed. (1996), p.905]
"Hesiod first mentioned 'Makedon', the eponym of the people and the country, as a son of Zeus, a grandson of Deukalion, and so a first cousin of Aeolus, Dorus, and Xuthus; in other words he considered the 'Makedones' to be an outlying branch of the Greek-speaking tribes, with a distinctive dialect of their own, 'Macedonian'."
    [N.G.L.Hammond, "Oxford Classical Dictionary", 3rd ed. (1996), pp.904,905]
"All in all, the language of the Macedones was a distinct and particular form of Greek, resistant to outside influnces and conservative in pronunciation. It remained so until the fourth century when it was almost totally submerged by the flood tide of standardized Greek."
[Hammond and Griffith, "A History of Macedonia" Vol ii, 550-336 BC.]
"I shall not indulge in a lecture on the ancient identity of the Macedonians and on Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great, but the Greeks were historically correct in the campaign that they launched in the early days of the dispute...
"Nor shall I engage in a lecture on the falsification of the history of Slavo-Macedonia since 1944, although that, too, has much hard factual content. I simply remind the House that Tito's renaming of Vardar Banovina as the Republic of Macedonia in 1944 was a political statement. More than that, it was a territorial claim. It laid claim to territory in Greece and in Bulgaria. Notably, the objective was the warm water port of Salonika on the Aegean."
[Mr. Edward O'Hara of the British Parliament]
"The feeling of being Macedonians, and nothing but Macedonians, seems to be a sentiment of fairly recent growth, and even today is not very deep-rooted."
[Elisabeth Barker, "Macedonia, its place in Balkan power politics",
(originally published in 1950 by the Royal Institute of International Affairs), p.10]
."The Department has noted with considerable apprehension increasing propaganda rumors and semi-official statements in favor of an autonomous Macedonia, emanating principally from Bulgaria, but also from Yugoslav Partisan and other sources, with the implication that Greek territory would be included in the projected state. "This Government considers talk of Macedonian "nation', Macedonian "Fatherland", or Macedonian "national consciousness" to be unjustified demagoguery representing no ethnic nor political reality, and sees in its present revival a possible cloak for aggressive intentions against Greece"."
[The Secretary of State, Edward Stettinius, to Certain Diplomatic and Consular Officers, U.S. State Department, Foreign Relations Vol. VIII, Circular Airgram (868.014 / 26 Dec. 1944)]

"Modern Slavs, both Bulgarians and Macedonians, cannot establish a link with antiquity, as the Slavs entered the Balkans centuries after the demise of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. Only the most radical Slavic factions-mostly émigrés in the United States, Canada, and Australia-even attempt to establish a connection to antiquity [...] The twentieth-century development of a Macedonian ethnicity, and its recent evolution into independent statehood following the collapse of the Yugoslav state in 1991, has followed a rocky road. In order to survive the vicissitudes of Balkan history and politics, the Macedonians, who have had no history, need one. They reside in a territory once part of a famous ancient kingdom, which has borne the Macedonian name as a region ever since and was called ”Macedonia” for nearly half a century as part of Yugoslavia. And they speak a language now recognized by most linguists outside Bulgaria, Serbia, and Greece as a south Slavic language separate from Slovenian, Serbo-Croatian, and Bulgarian. Their own so-called Macedonian ethnicity had evolved for more than a century, and thus it seemed natural and appropriate for them to call the new nation “Macedonia” and to attempt to provide some cultural references to bolster ethnic survival."
