Are they going to solve the Dexter stefanik murder or what? I mean it's only been 40 years for God's sake can't they solve it for Christ's sake! Who in the world would want to kill an old man like that? I guess that's the kind of species some human beings really are. That's taking mental illness to another level.
On June 5, 1989, the New Kids on the Block filmed a music video at one of their concerts in Los Angeles, California. In March 1991, Kari's parents viewed it and noticed a girl in the audience that looked just like her. Investigators believed that they were most likely the same person. A detailed analysis of the video showed that the girl had almost identical hair length, hair color, face shape, and number of earrings in her right ear as Kari did before she vanished. NKOTB members Jordan and Jonathan Knight made personal appeals for Kari to come forward. However, the young girl in the video would later come forward and identify herself; she was a teenager from Washington, D.C.. Then, on January 28, 1994, almost seven years after Kari vanished, her body was unearthed in a shallow grave only miles from her home. Robert Anthony Jones confessed to her kidnapping, rape, and murder. He had been arrested for numerous bank robberies. He had confessed to her murder in an effort to get his wife, Theresa, a lighter sentence for driving the getaway car from a local bank heist with their two children inside. He had kidnapped Kari at gunpoint and drove her to his parents' camp, where he raped, strangled, and shot her. He buried her on the remote Jay property the following morning. At the time, Robert was 23 years old and living in Bar Harbor, Maine with his family. He had returned to his hometown for a week-long visit when he abducted Kari, whom he had spotted while he was buying beer at the local store. He later returned to the Au Sable Forks area where he settled with his family, only 200 yards from where he had buried her. Under the negotiated plea, he secured an 18 year to life sentence for the robberies and her murder. Robert is now an inmate in Sing Sing Prison and his first parole board hearing was in 2011; he was denied parole that September and, as of 2018, remains in prison. He has stated that he abducted her because of marital difficulties; claiming Theresa had cheated on him as well as claiming he had committed robbery in order to intentionally get caught. Recently the NYSDOCCS/Parole Board denied Jones his first attempt for release. Sadly, on December 3, 2007, Kari’s brother, Jonathan Edward Nixon, died after a yearlong battle with ALS. He was survived by a daughter also named Kari Lynn Nixon in her aunt's honor. Also, their father, Gary, passed away in 2011.
Vegeta, Thank You for getting all the details right. I grew up in Au Sable and knew the Nixons. I did not know That Gary and Their Son Jonathan Passed away. So Very Sad. Kathy and Gary Split after Kari was found. Such a Tragedy.
I always wondered why they were watching that particular concert. Was it on tv,and they decided to watch having nothing better to watch? Why?That girl seemed to be placed there intentionally. The way the camera is on her, seems a bit questionable.
Scott Norris no evidence? This segment alone contains testimony from two people who handled the gold themselves, including one former member of the military.

What the US government did to Ova Noss and her family was utterly despicable. Read the whole story, just sheer arrogance on behalf of the Army, trying to make a fool out of Ova, and then getting caught themselves inside the peak. Such arrogance... and nothing ever happened to them, they got away with it.
I don't know who played Babe, but she was a FANTASTIC actress! I was roaring with laughter! That gold, and everything of value, was probably stolen by the military/gov decades ago.
I remember watching the Victorio Peak segment when I was a kid and taking my friends and I to hunt for treasure in the creek by my house. We were convinced there must be treasure there.
Kari Lynn Nixon story absolutely broke my heart. When I saw this story for the first time during Quarantine2020 I was hoping for a good update but when it revealed that she was murdered....it shattered me. I don’t know why.
I just wanted to comment and say I felt the same way. What really bothered me were those people in South Carolina who dangled hope in front of those poor parents just for attention. Everything about that story was terrible and tragic.
On January 19, 2024, the Dawson County Sheriff's Office announced that they believed seventy-nine-year-old Charles Gary Sullivan was Dexter's killer. He is currently serving a fifteen-year sentence for the 1979 murder of Julia Woodward, who was killed in Reno, Nevada. He was arrested for her murder in 2019 after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. He previously had to provide a DNA sample when he was required to register as a sex offender following a 2007 sexual assault case in California. The surviving members of Dexter's family consider Sullivan to in fact be Dexter's killer and consider the case solved
*Spoiler* Update about Kari Lynn Nixon: Kari Lynn Nixon's remains were found in January 1994. She was abducted at gunpoint on her walk home. After being sexually assaulted, she was strangled, shot and buried the next morning about about 2 miles from her home. She was never in SC. Her killer was sentenced to 18 years-to life and has been denied parole numerous times. He filed an appeal in 2018 to have his conviction vacated, which was denied. Her father, Gary Nixon, who was widely criticized for sending his daughter out instead of going himself died in 2011.

Sheltering your child 100percent can create a runaway....Letting them grow up can get them killed, so, sometimes we just have to take a chance.
@@ThePeterDislikeShow Yeah. It's such a shame. Poor Kari 😢 Not to mention how her dad was criticized horribly just because she walked down the street to the local store. Truth of the matter is, is that it was NOT her dad's fault! We as people have a right to walk down the street if we choose without fear of harm or danger. And it's not like her parents knew was what going to happen! The only person who is at fault is the person who ACTUALLY killed her, no one else! As for the sightings of "her", I think it may have been a case of mistaken identity. The girl could have heard about the story of Kari Lynn and said she was her so no one could know her real name or who she really was. Hopefully that is the case and Shirley Kannapel wasn't lying just for attention or to get on TV. That would terrible If that was the case. RIP Kari Lynn Nixon 1971-1987☹️♥️

It’s crazy and creepy to think that the whole time Kari was murdered and buried not too far from where her house. Just think the whole time that they was filming this and searching she was dead the whole time. Heartbreaking..
@KiLDiG dot com Wow ok, we don't need a whole lesson here about the meaning of life, all he was saying was it's sad that she had to die, geez buddy, no need to say all that crap, we already know all this!
On the UM web-page, it states that apparently the girl in the concert-crowd video was not Kari, but was merely a very similar look-alike; they know this because it was later proven that Kari had been murdered a long time before this concert took place. However, this sighting kept investigators working on Kari's case for longer than they would normally have, and ultimately it was solved when Robert Jones led police to where he'd buried Kari's body.
Probably because they filmed on location. Grew up in the nearby town of Glendive, and have been to that rest stop many times. Kind of weird seeing it on a show I used to watch as a kid
Just this year (2024), police released the name of a person-of-interest in the Stefonek case whom they said they feel convinced is responsible for Dexter's murder. He is 79 and already serving in a Nevada prison, presumably until he dies, for another murder, and the police are not filing charges due to not posessing enough indisputable evidence. But according to them they feel enough similarities exist to point the finger of blame at him. That man, of-course, is not talking.

36:59 At the time of Kari's disappearance, Robert was twenty-three-years-old and living in Bar Harbor, Maine with his family. On the week that she vanished, he returned to his hometown for a week-long visit. On the night of June 22, he spotted her while he was buying beer at the neighborhood market. Based on his 1994 plea agreement he was granted his first parole hearing in 2011 where he was denied. All subsequent appeals have been denied and he will next be eligible for parole in January of 2021. In 2018, Robert attempted to appeal his original 1994 confession and conviction, the higher courts of New York rejected his appeal. kari would be 2 years younger than me today. She was a pretty girl, and I was captivated by this story; confident that was her in the video, and she would contact her parents. Then that epilogue was like getting kicked in gut. I cried for Kari Nixon. It was just chance. She died in that deplorable manner so close to her home out of sheer chance. It is cause he was abducted and killed by a total stranger. And the stranger is still out there living and laughing and perhaps might be dead at this point.
The Stefonek case is such a frightening one because it defies so many possibilities of why and what. One clue leads to another question that defies the clue. Almost forty years on now and this case is honestly no closer to being figured out than it was at the time. The murderer's truck was noted as being lived in by the attendant that morning and the police speculated that he killed Dexter not for money but for gasoline. Yet the graffiti in the bathroom that was considered enough to be a clue hinted at something sexual. This is two polar opposite causations: a desperate itinerant and a sexual misadventure. I always thought that the story of the dump was somehow incorrect; I think that the killer never returned with his belongings but instead they were just always there. But then why the graffiti thought to be the killer's? So, we have a case of disjointed parts and clues that contradict each other, really. The case is also unsettling for me because I can relate to the strangeness found at a roadside rest stop. I used to travel weekly across my state and sometimes I travelled back very late at night to be home in the morning. I would take short naps to regain my stamina before moving again, but there was one stop along my way that I learned to never go to again. The first time there I got propositioned for drugs; the second time I got propositioned for a ride and then for sex; and the third time I was accosted by a homeless man whom would not leave until I gave him money. Dexter may have just been unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I remember so much from the Dexter Stephonic episode from seeing it just once as a kid, when it was on real TV! I remember the little brown hatchback car, the ice and snow, that he disappeared while traveling, the car burning...even the boot and the foot. The only thing I misremembered is the name. I thought it was Dexter Stephonix.
reading further into the case of Dexter Stefonek I feel that it was a gay tryst. Back in the 80's and 90's rest stops were popular meeting places for homosexual lovers. My first theory is that Dexter pre arranged to meet this man or was "cruising." He may have chosen rest stops over motels for this reason. He then met a man, engaged in sexual activity and the man then shot and beat him out of guilt. Second theory is that the man came onto Dexter and when Dexter didn't respond to his advances the man became angry and murdered Dexter. The third ties into the first in that Dexter arranged to meet this man or met him there and the man's intent was to murder a homosexual. The graffiti regarding hot jock can be deciphered as "hot jock," = homosexual, "shot wad," = semen, "from Wisconsin," = either Dexter or a long haul trucker either destined for or originating from Wisconsin
If I found all that gold it would have been long removed. Within weeks I would have bought a house with it, and reburied on my own property. There was no treasure. Notice the only people who saw it were people close to Doc and instead of removing it a bunch of mishaps happened to prevent him from doing so. The real mystery is how so many people believed this nonsense.

Police believe they solved Dexter Stefonek's murder. Charles Sullivan (now age 79) is a serial killer who was only caught in 2019 for the murder of two women in 1979. Once they investigated his background, they found he lived in northern Arizona and drove a white chevy pickup with Arizona plates at the time of Stefonek's killing. He also was the correct age (about 40) which matches the witness description. (Sullivan refused to answer questions about the case). Police said they do not feel they have enough to charge but are satisfied enough to close Stefonek's case.
@Diane Newman Don't be too sure of that. Modern technology can do remarkable things these days. They could bring Bob back, like they did Nat King Cole.

Oh yeah, they had everyone turn in any gold coins at that time as well. They payed them to turn it in but I believe gold was valued around $30-35/Troy Oz when that happened.
Not fair to the Noss family at all! Wish they had taken out the coins, not worth as much as gold bars, but much easier to remove, and still worth a fortune! 😟
Yeah, they think a treasure of gold ingets was transferred around Farmington New Mexico around that time because they were gonna sell it but than the plan for screwed up because they passed that law, so the Mexican business men beging the treasure had to find a way to export it but then they all died

I find this it interesting after 33 years that they either gave up or still haven’t found anyone in Dexter’s case. Really sad how he wanted to go home and instead some schmuck murders him. Real interesting that no one has found his killer after all this time.
Yep, very scary to think that guy was never arrested or even identified. The way he attacked poor Dexter and got rid of evidences shows a certain level of sophistication, I'm sure he either did a similar crime before or since then. Very scary.
You watch this TH-cam video they didn’t describe the suspects vehicle where I remember watching this program when it aired on television they describe the suspect vehicle but for some strange reason they didn’t.
Investigators later released the full message written at the Bad Route rest area: "HOT JOCK SHOT WAD FROM WISCONSIN 11/85 SATURDAY THE 3rd". However, no new leads came from the message. Under hypnosis, Clyde Mitchell told investigators that the first three numbers of the killer's license plate were: 147. Investigators were able to narrow down the suspect's vehicle to less than sixty different owners. However, they were unable to determine if any of them were Dexter's killer. The case is still being investigated, but there are few leads. Frederick Siegle, the caretaker of the rest stop where Dexter was found, died in 1997 at the age of 81.
What happened to Doc and Babe would not have happened had they just stayed quiet. The saying "loose lips sink ships" rings very true here.If that were me I would have kept my mouth shut and quietly smuggled that treasure out of there over time.
Exactly. The family had over 15 years to smuggle, by hand if necessary, as much treasure as they possibly could out of there. It sounds like Doc only ever retrieved 50-100 bars at most. Using a pulley system they might have been able to extract 25-100 bars per day. Placed in a wheelbarrow and then carted to a waiting truck. The whole thing was handled very poorly.
The biggest problem with people who find treasure is their inability to keep their mouths shut.
Doc seems to have done a pretty good job of it since there're still a lot of gold bars supposedly out there which nobody has found

What the US government did to Ova Noss and her family was utterly despicable. He previously had to provide a DNA sample when he was required to register as a sex offender following a 2007 sexual assault case in California. about 600 feet but yeah awful
She shouldn't have been out that time of night whether the store was 7ft from the house. That was too damn late for a child to be out.
*Spoiler* Update about Kari Lynn Nixon:
Kari Lynn Nixon's remains were found in January 1994.

@@ThePeterDislikeShow
Yeah. It's such a shame. Poor Kari 😢
Not to mention how her dad was criticized horribly just because she walked down the street to the local store.

Kari Nixon’s story is positively heartbreaking.

@DoomOtter the killer, is probably dead or in prison. I wouldn't doubt that this was his first and only foray into violent crime.

At the time of Kari's disappearance, Robert was twenty-three-years-old and living in Bar Harbor, Maine with his family. On the week that she vanished, he returned to his hometown for a week-long visit. On the night of June 22, he spotted her while he was buying beer at the neighborhood market. He followed her and forced her into his car at gunpoint. He then drove her to his parents' cabin where he raped, strangled, and shot her. Under the negotiated plea, he secured a sentence of eighteen-years to life for the robberies and her murder.
Robert is currently an inmate at Wyoming Correctional Facility in New York. He has stated that he abducted the victim because of marital difficulties; claiming Theresa had cheated on him as well as claiming he had committed robbery in order to intentionally get caught.

@@michaelbull4344 hooked on phonix! Sterfonics
Agreed this case needs more attention
It's like joy ride the movie in real life
The Stefonek case is such a frightening one because it defies so many possibilities of why and what.
That makes me think of Edward W Edwards. I’m pretty sure he was living in Montana at the time

reading further into the case of Dexter Stefonek I feel that it was a gay tryst.

He also was the correct age (about 40) which matches the witness description. (Sullivan refused to answer questions about the case). Police said they do not feel they have enough to charge but are satisfied enough to close Stefonek's case.
I am so glad they have Robert stack episodes with him on here!! I wish he was still doing them!! Just not the same for me with this other person!!
@Diane Newman Don't be too sure of that. Modern technology can do remarkable things these days. They could bring Bob back, like they did Nat King Cole.
Don't understand how a father can have his teen daughter walk to a store at 9:30pm. If he wanted something, why didn't he just go himself instead of sending his her to go. Just heart breaking.
It was a different time back in the 80s. It was a higher trust society. Crime was relatively unknown especially in smaller communities.
Illegal to own gold not in the form of jewelry wtf
Finally! that other guy just doesn't cut it.
"AMW" would have been a better fit for Farina. He seemed out of place on "Unsolved Mysteries".
Thanks for the information brother.
Robert Stack is Back
What a weird thing to say about the dead host of a defunct TV show.
I love unsolved mysteries
very cool the new kids on the block
New Kids on the Block with an A-class move in appealing to Kari. They didn't have to do that, many celebrities wouldn't of even acknowledged the situation but they did. Respect.
FINALLY!!! Will we be getting the other seasons too???
you will be aloud to return to your mine after it's safe and national security... YEAH right who they trying to kid......... The millitary no doubt took the treasure.
"I found a wallet!...I found a dead guy!"
Man. I think shows like Unsolved Mysteries and America's Most Wanted is a reason I don't like people.
Then don't watch bitch
@@rochelle123ist It's people like you is what I don't like either, bitch!
Very scary.
Guy lost his wife and just wanted to go home and grieve but lost his life to some asswipe
@@jonathanturbide2232 His killer was a rotten bastard
Leave it to the police to completely misinterpret what "Hot Jock" shooting a "wad" means.

Victorio Peak is one of my favorites
What happened to Doc and Babe would not have happened had they just stayed quiet. The saying "loose lips sink ships" rings very true here.If that were me I would have kept my mouth shut and quietly smuggled that treasure out of there over time.
EXACTLY MY FRIEND, U TOOK ✍🏽 RIGHT 👍🏽 OF MY 👄!!!✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️
