Blessed to see him perform live in The Netherlands, late eighties, was allowed to shoot pictures from up close and shake his hand. A wonderful night that i will always cherish...
He was my classmate at KC evening school, he was a good goolie too. We were 17 at the time, after school he always hang out at the record shop on molynes road,
My introduction to Suga Booga Minott was in th 80s with Material Workd and Letter to Mandela but with access to recordings becoming more available, it wasnt until the 90s that I got the full measure of the Great man. ...Resr In Power...❤

Sugar Minott is truly Greatness. His album, 'Black Roots' (1979) must rank amongst the greatest music in the History of Music. How unusual interesting his vocal sound and style. Fascinatingly distinct.
Sugar Minott was a great soul, and an excellent reggae musician who did not only take from the music or the country. Rather, he scouted, nurtured, and promoted countless young talents in the business, in so doing he put food on many tables across Ja. Unlike some today who, on every occasion they get they put down their colleague and fight over title. Claiming to be king of this and king of that. The powers that be do not recognize the likes of these people! Great video as always.
Just discovered this channel and I am really enjoying delving into the history of Reggae in full. A lot of great acts that are new to me to discover and learn about. Thanks for this
i had interviewed him on my old radio show, it was a call in interview. I told him, that I will be djing at the show he was playing the next day. And that I will see him at the show. I actually had a gig later that evening, and I knew I was going to miss his performance. As I was leaving the venue, he was coming in, We chatted for a few minutes, he was really great to deal with.
So glad you made this show. It explains my reaction to his music from the first time I heard it. I believe we bare our souls through the music we make. So my thoughts are confirmed his love is flooding out of his sounds. Mr narrator you have a way with words and your voice that I think you could read the bus timetable out and it would be sweet but when your educating me about my musical heroes its a audio free sweet shop. 💚💛❤
@@ReggaeAppreciationSociety Its a pleasure , subscribed and shared. Can I ask your opinion of the Docummentary Rudeboy : The Story of Trojan Records. ? I like it and it's the only Reggae record label Documentary. I have read every book I can find on the subject.
Such an enormous void, he was so amazing! Blessed to have known, danced, chatted, hugged and witnessed rehearse with my Bredren next to Juicy's Jamaican. I forget how I knew he was there. I lived close. That was so irie, he had been reading about my work and loved that I had known Joe Higgs well. He left us way too soon, thank you for this video, the clips and narration are both well researched and inspiring!

Avalanche of blessings unto you brother. Thank you for this long awaited doc. Great history highlight this global superstar Sugar Minott. You have set the tone for documentary styles telling the story in your voice researching precise accounts of his life. An award winning doc in my opinion. Long live the King of RubADub & Lovers Rock. Cheers from Atlanta GA USA. 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
Excellent tribute sah! For some reason I knew nothing of this remarkable history. I just loved his vocals and had slightly conflated him with Dennis Brown. He certainly looks like a character! From your details he didn’t succumb to the White Lady like Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. Sadly when I saw Gregory at Manchester international late 80’s he had a towel over his linen jacket and was sweating profusely.😶🌫️
He was one of the best humanitarian in Jamaica 🇯🇲RIP MY BROTHER NUFF LOVE
Saw in a couple of times in the UK. His voice was amazing. 👏
A lovely man.
I had the pleasure and privilege of opening for him at a couple of shows back in the day.
He was a true gentleman.
Beautiful tribute RAS he was truly a great Jamaican he should be in a hall of fame
Yes I ✌️ He was a great man
Remarkable voice, fine songwriting,, innovative style.....Sugar had a Cool charisma similar to Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown (and Freddie Macgregor)
