- How many different ways can you break a McLaren?
This is my craziest challenge to date, turning a custom Lanzante built McLaren P1 GTR and turn it into the world's wildest drift hypercar - in only 100 days!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be cutting into a multi-million dollar McLaren with no rules, and then unveiling it at one of my favourite events on earth - the Goodwood Festival of Speed!
MADMAC will truly be the maddest McLaren in existence, if I can turn this dream into a reality…

Hi, guy who works with 3D printers for a living here. The reason that shifter broke was because the layers were printed in the wrong orientation, you could make it work by just printing it vertically. That's all, good luck Mike! ❤️💪
Also some other suggestions from someone who also 3D prints for motorsport applications. Looks like you have 2 walls, I would bump that up to at least 4. I would do much higher infill in the area it broke as well as change the filament to CF-ABS or CF-PETG

You printed that shifter mount in the wrong orientation. Layer lines are the weakest sheer points..... you want continuous material in the directions of force. Rotate that 90 degrees and print the long part vertically with supports. Or, print a negative and do a forged carbon mold. Love your work guys.
Its pretty hard to comprehend at that level they make so crappy parts for a top level vehicle. Thats not the first, I would think they know better..

These guys are an actual racing team with engineers. Its a lot easier to build a car like this when you have the resources on hand. DDE is basically just Mike Essa and Tim helping.

Thats because it's not a McLaren anymore lol. It's only McLaren-shaped at this point, basically a 99% custom fabbed 3-rotor RX7 with a P1 roof, windshield, and bodykit. And it's one of the RADDEST F***ING builds I've ever seen.
if anybody can make it work its you and your amazing team Mike, show the world how its done. just like Bruce mclaren did
The 20B itself seems to be the toughest part of the build so far, too much power for the dyno, too much heat for the exhaust manifold and the turbo, too much for the throttle bodies, too much for the engine mounts and the cross member, that 20B just dominates everything!

been waiting and wondering about all thats been going on :D as for the fab work - you’ll have to sort that out asap… the tuning part ya’ll can figure that out on a few street hits or on the track. just keep the tune fat up top with conservative timing in the meantime and focus on getting the car to the event. tune it on the fly keeping it safe!! cheers 🍻

Love this project. My first car was a 95 Celica. My pops got it wrecked when I was 12 and fixed it (he’s a body guy). Was painted night hawk black and was so clean. Always thought about AWD swapping it in my 16 year old brain lol cool to see you doing it.

Except those things like mounts for things that put them back in the garage thoug. Good they have rescources to throw at it though since it looked damn good when it was sideways for that one lap so think they will figure it out.
