You hit the nail on the head. Lost my wife about six months ago after battling cancer for two years (she was 52)! Really done a lot of soul searching since then. I'll be out of the rat race within 5 years if not before (currently 55). Love you man! Keep preaching it!
Boy Tim, this was an eye-opening video. It really put life in perspective with the 9 lines representing 9 decades. People really think if you live until your 80s or 90s that you're going to be able to do what you are doing in your 60s and 70s. It's so true what you said in the video. I really hope people listen. I have a friend and sister in law that both died in their 50s, and they were both healthy, active women who didn't drink, smoke, and exercised every day. Both died of cancer. So you never know what cards you're dealt. Live the best life you can and keep crushing it.
Your mindset in this video is exactly how my husband and I think. He will be 63 and I’ll be 61 this year. He has been retired for 2yrs. We have not looked back. We are debt free. Thinking about buying an RV and see the US. You have inspired us for sure.
I’m 83 and look back fondly to 75 when I was still working (not a prison job because I worked for myself). Now have an essential tremor with my hands and an arthritic hip. But still doing well.
Two of my neighbors from my childhood died recently at 67. I tried to retire in 2022 when I moved to SC but they let me work at home with high NE salary. It's like a working vacation not having the 2 hour round trip commute and flexibility to go in the pool at lunch time, sleep 8 hours and play with my dog during the day. It's no longer a slave job.
When social security runs out and they cut your check by 30% your $1700 turn into $1190. Producing videos 3 times a day every day isn't a prison job? What happens if you don't produce any videos?
I just walked 10k steps and I am now taking a water break. I try to keep that ticker in good shape. I believe 62 is the best time to take Social Security. I can tell the difference in my body every ten years. It's an adjustment for sure. I ran track and cross country in high school. I continued to run/jog in my 20s and 30s. In my forties, I started walking. I've been walking ever since. I try to walk 3 times a week. It is good to stay active and stay away from processed foods as much as possible. I have noticed younger generations seem to be more obese. It's a struggle to watch calories and to stay healthy no matter what your age!
I agree with you 100% Tim . As a retired Medic, I personally have seen life expectancy increase in the last 20 years. When I first started in EMS, the "older" patients were 73-75 y/o. When I retired 2 years ago (at age 58) my average age for an "older" patient was 85 y/o. My older patients were 92,93 & my oldest patient was 102. So we are living longer in general. I believe each individual needs to see what's the income stream with SS at whatever age they decide to start collecting . At age 62 you will have a decrease in the SS income of 30% for the remainder of your life, so it's important to understand this shortfall of $ & how it will affect your bottom line over the course of your remaining years. Also, keep in mind that at age 65 if you don't sign up for Medicare, you will have a penalty applied once you do sign up and that too will last for the remaining years. Safe Travels. P.S. Keep moving physically, the worst thing to do is retire from life!
Hey Tim! I’m 72 & still kicking. I know an 80 yr old that works at a Nursing Home as a CNA & can work circle s around some of those young ones. Just saying! Age is only a number to me, but u have to treat your body good & stay healthy. 🙃

It's all a stance of personal perspective on long term livelihood. The flip side of the coin delaying social security for a few years past 62 is enough to Never need a side hustle but be fully retired. Delay for a few years past 62 while still healthy is a better option than side hustling to make ends meet in a state of elderly decrepitness old and weak (suffering to survive) imo.
According to the Society of Actuaries (SOA), a 65-year-old man in average health has a 55% chance of living to age 85, while a 65-year-old woman has a 65% chance. However, the average life expectancy in the U.S. is 81 for women and 76 for men, which applies to people from birth and not those who have already reached age 65 (that's the key, the AVERAGE expectancy is from birth). Also: According to Statista, the life expectancy for men aged 65 in the U.S. has been increasing since the 1960s, and men can now expect to live an average of 17 more years. Women aged 65 can expect to live an average of 19.7 more years. All this being said, your point about quality of life is well taken - even if you live into your 80s, you can expect a decline in the quality of your life in your last few years, so it's best to do some living as soon as reasonably possible given your situation. Keep crushing it Tim!
Provided you enjoy working, good health and low stress, have a purpose and friends at work, having earned lots of vacation time, making great money… keep working at least till full retirement age. At that point you will be able to get Medicare and a stronger monthly SSI check, a beefier pension or 401k if you have one…and you’ll have no limits on side hustle earnings.

Sorry if I’m getting personal, but I don’t recall you discussing how long old your parents lived to be? You’re in pretty good shape and health and youthful for someone that’s 65. My mom just turned 72 and is still going fine. My dad died at 56 I think? Of lung cancer. He was a smoker. That’s only 3 years older than I am now. His brother died literally on his 47th birthday. Neither took as good of care of themselves as I do. They both smoked cigarettes till they died. Drank alcohol daily. I do neither. And I’m glad you mention alcohol. We’re taught that alcohol is okay as long as you’re 21. And you’re even made to feel a fool if you don’t drink alcohol at least socially. I do not. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink since I was 15 years old. Literally not even a sip. I may have taken some alcoholic cough medicine on accident, which I don’t prefer to take if it’s got alcohol. Anyway, sorry for spam posting. I tend to add more thoughts and chat back as I go through the video. 😅

I hear ya on the going to the doctor part. I got some blood work back in January. First time in quite a while. Everything was good. The young guy who took my blood was surprised I was 53. I’ve been regretfully putting off the prostate/colon screenings I should have had done. My best friend got prostate cancer at 42 years old. It’s taken care of and he’s cancer free, but very scary to happen to a 42 year old guy that looks 25 and has never smoked, drank or done any of that once in his life and has a pretty good diet.
Colon cancer is one of the few cancers that is preventable through colonoscopy and other test. It’s just easy to put off these test before it’s too late.
You think you're a prisoner? Try living your life confined in a body that doesn't work properly. I'm trapped in a body that 90% of my bones fused solid. I haven't been able to reach my feet since I was 11 years. Now I can't even touch my head. I can't walk. I can't work. I can't climb stairs. I can't reach farther than my keyboard. I've been stuck in a wheelchair and can't even push myself because my shoulders are fused into their sockets. I can't drive a car, can't turn my head, and constantly experience severe pain. It changes your life and you have to watch carefully what and how much you eat. At times it can be very frustrating because almost everything in our food has carbs. I have been able to control it fairly well with how I eat. Fortunately, I am not on pills or insulin, thank God. I refuse to let it get to that. Please keep a watch on your health in that regard and the amount of carbs you eat. My sister is not diabetic so I don't really understand it. My folks lived until 92 and I want to live as long. Take care of your health..also daily exercise is very important no matter our age.

Looking at cell phones puts me asleep. Glare/high contrast situations.
I had no symptoms for diabetes when a np decided to test me with an A1c. I was borderline. That was in '13. In '16 I was diagnosed diabetic. I was in my early 60's.
