      I think Tom just doesn't want to admit that like last year, this division is the Vikings' to lose. Of course he does have a valid note that the Vikings have by far the hardest schedule in the division.

    As a Vikings fan I think are ceiling is 12-5. Optimistic yes but all the other teams are in a new era. The lions have a lot of questions about consistency. Packers have a new QB for the first time since 2008. And the bears had the 1st pick last year Justin Fields hasn’t won anything it’s all potential.

    • @robertbach3592
      @robertbach3592 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Was also thinking a ceiling around there. 10-7 or slightly lower is probably where they’re going to be, but that doesn’t mean I think it’s incredibly bold to say 12-5 could happen.
      I think they’ll be a slightly better team than they were last year, but as we saw, how good you are doesn’t always equate to your record. Vikings got a bit lucky on some games. I thought they’d be a 9-8 team last year, so anything less than 10-7 seems like a regression, not a ceiling to strive for.

    • @MFBloosh
      @MFBloosh ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You guys need to clean up those 1 score games, though... No way that happens again. For comparison's sake, the Bears had 8 losses by 1 score. If the Bears defense was just a little better last year, they would've been a 8 win team, at least. Records can be deceiving when you're barely winning every game, and also being an easy pick as a one-and-done in the playoffs. But hey, I guess wins are wins.

    • @TicklishViking
      @TicklishViking ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MFBlooshVikings had the worst defense in the league last year. it would be pretty hard (especially with Flores) to not improve on that side of the ball. the D was the main reason games were close. only big loss on offense was Cook but I think Mattison will do a decent job. 12-5 is not a stretch for a ceiling.
      on the other hand we have a tough schedule and thus the 7-10 floor.

    • @mightguy123456
      @mightguy123456 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see 4 definite L’s; 2-3 tough, but winnable games. Say they split with the Lions and Packers: I have the Vikings ceiling at 11-6/floor at 8-9. I will be surprised if they don’t regress, the question is just by how much. The North doesn’t have a SB caliber team anyway.

    • @MFBloosh
      @MFBloosh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TicklishViking True, which is the same way I feel about my Bears. No way they can be worse, especially on defense picking up people like Edmunds and Edwards. Only reason the defense ended up plummeting is because we got rid of our 2 best guys in Quinn and Smith. With both teams, Vikings and Bears, both records could've easily been extremely different than they ended up being. One team won 11 games by a score, and the other team lost 8 games by a score. That's the NFL for ya though. As I said, wins are all that matter at the end of the day.

    I'm thinking Detroit will have a BONKERS regular season where they go 11-2 to start, then lose their last 4.

    I personally think that while a lot of the hype for the Lions is warranted, I also don't feel super impressed by their roster. Goff has to prove he can be consistently the guy, the WRs behind Amon-Ra are suspect, very young and unimpressive TE room, and a lot of holes in the defense still despite making a lot of improvements. Their depth is sub-par as well, so if they have even one key injury it could derail their entire season. That said, I agree, 10-7 is a fair ceiling, but wouldn't be surprised if they finished 2nd or even 3rd in the division

    • @jokerj641
      @jokerj641 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you're coping lol
      Goff was the best QB in the division last year throwing 29TDs 4500 yards an only 7int's. O int's in the last 9 games. Goff lead a top 5 offense with those same suspect unimpressive WRs an TEs all year long. 😅😬 So does that make Goff the real MVP since he did so well with a subpar group? Lol
      On defense the Lions are way better than last year. Yeah they could maybe use more depth at DT an CB but besides that they have good depth.
      Lions have the best safety group in the NFL. C. J Gardner, T. Walker, K. Joseph, an B. Branch. Branch has been so impressive he might actually start. It's a very versatile group as well. Gardner an Branch can both play slot corner or nickelback at a very high level.
      At outside CB Sutton, Mosely, Joseph are a good group. LBs are solid with the addition of J. Campbell. He has been a stud so far. Anzolone is solid, Barnes has stepped up, an Rodrigo is a beast.
      Lions are deep with DEs. Hutch is going to be a monster this year. C. Harris an R. Okwara are both coming back from missing most of last year. Then we still have J. Houston, Cominsky, Paschal, J. Okwara. Alim McNeill is at beast at DT an transformed his body this year. I expect big things for him this year.
      Lions defense may not be elite but will be way better than last years defense an at least be average. So I don't really see all these holes you're talking about. The only one single player that would derail the Lions season if hurt would be Goff.

      @@merlehexum3932 What are you talking about? Lol. The Lions offense broke records last year. They were 4th in yards an 5th in scoring. They were in the top of every major offensive category, higher than the Vikings.
      Cousins is not better than Goff. Goff 29 TDs an 7 INTs is a lot better than Cousins 29 TDs an 14 INTs 😅😬
      As for TEs, Hockenson is ok but theirs a reason why we traded him. He drops way too many balls an goes down easy with contact. Lions finished 2nd in the NFL for most TE TD'S last year way ahead of the Vikings. We have a solid group with LaPorta, Wright, an Mitchell.
      Jefferson is amazing but besides him who do the Vikings have? Addison.. a unproven rookie. Lions have a really good group in St. Brown, Jamo, Marvin Jones, Reynolds, an Raymond. Our 5th WR Raymond had around 100 recs an 1200 yards the last 2 years 😬😬
      Lions O-line is top 3 in the NFL an Lions RB group is way better than the Vikings especially since Cook left. Ben Johnson is one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL. He was one of the hottest names for a head coaching job for a few teams but turned them down to stay in Detroit.
      Sorry but facts are facts. Lions beat the Vikings in pretty much every offensive category last year. Theirs a reason why almost everyone has the Lions winning the North.

Fields has enough to where he should be able to show improvement in the pass game. It's in his hands to make it happen. Feel good about it as he was dragging a bottom of the league roster last year to somehow being competitive week in and week out vs some damn good teams. We'll see how it plays out.

    Vikings (has a good run, but I think they will regress somewhat. They had always some pieces together, but not the whole picture, and now they are running out of time))
    Packers (Rodgers gone, and Love won't fill the gap, they will be third because the Bears will need more time. A long rebuild is ahead of the Packers)
    Bears (If Fields progress continues, and the Bears do their homework, they will dominate with the Lions the NFC North for the second half of this decade)

It's entertaining to watch, but this was supposed to be the season we get to see if he can be the guy in that pocket and only run when he wants to, not needs to. I was happy about Bagent and how Tyler Scott did in the return game. So, we'll just have to see. Either we make progress or get better draft picks :P No one expected this to be the year for us, but if we can set ourselves up for next year, I'll take it.

I think we have both a lower floor, if Fields just absolutely isn't the guy, and higher ceiling, if Fields absolutely balls out and our defense doesn't suck (that feels very weird to say as a lifelong Bears fan). I think the range you gave is the most likely, and I would be very happy with 8-9 or 9-8 and either just missing the playoffs or just making the playoffs (see Lions and Jaguars from last year), but I think there are way too many unknowns as of right now for the Bears to have the narrowest spread in the division. The Bears are a year away. They still need dline and oline help. Fields is gonnna be running for his life again, and the secondary is gonna get torched because qbs will have 6 years to sit in the pocket. They got weapons and shiny new linebackers, but the dline is still lacking a consistent pass rusher. Aaron Jones is gonna gash us with our lack of quality interior lineman, same issue last year. Ngokwe or whatever is an 8 sack rotation man, him being our best rusher is a problem. The oline needs help too. When healthy I like their oline this year. From left to right, you have Jones going into his 2nd year, Jenkins who's the best lineman they have but is injured already and can't stay healthy. Whitehair moved back to guard with the Jenkins injury but he's been at center all of camp. He somehow made a probowl at center in 2018 and got benched the year after for constantly having snap issues, from snaps at the knees to snaps over the qbs head, Trubisky way chasing his snap everywhere. I'd prefer they leave him at guard and he not have his hand on the ball. Nate Davis at RG is a solod pick up and Wright is an untested rookie. Problem is 2 of the 5 are already injured and 2 of the other 3 are young and unproven tackles. This years gonna be rough again. The bears need trench work befor they go anywhere.

  • @theepoetrygod

    My expectations for the season mainly stem from what Ryan Poles stated in one of his press conferences earlier in the offseason.
    The rebuild will take three draft classes, last year being the first. Year one is all about evaluation and establishing the culture for the future. Year two (where we currently are) is about development. Having guys like Jaquan Brisker and Khalil Herbert make their bones in year two just like Justin Fields last year and Darnell Mooney the year before. Improvement is the biggest priority, even if the win/loss record doesn’t reflect that. Year three is about winning. You have the pieces around you and the team has developed long enough to start showing some results.
    As long as I see improvement from our weakest areas last year, I’ll be happy no matter what the win/loss record says.
