Dude it's formed plastic, to make one yourself find something vaguely shaped like it, heat a clear sheet with an heat gun and stretch it over the form. Since it has no recessed areas you don't need vacuum forming, I used this method to make canopies for my rc jets and always worked fine, though those were definitely smaller than this. I was personally looking more into the mirror effect, I'm making an emile helmet so I'm doing most of it with foam and only making the eyes see-trough so I can get the etchings done better.
@@RedAtlasMoth I can't know what is expensive to you but I used a gas soldering iron that also doubled as a blowtorch/heat gun that I got for 15 euros and besides, I'm fairly sure an actual heat gun would still be cheaper than relying on someone else across the world whenever you need a fancy piece of plastic
@@RedAtlasMoth if you can't afford that either you can use an oven if you have it, but you have to look up yourself temperatures/timings and if something goes wrong you can't use the oven until you scrubbed every single spec off or they'll evaporate and poison your food. This is great, if it was more fish bowl shaped with an orange or copper version it would make a great commander risk of rain helmet for cosplay. Hell the way it is in the vid would make a great artifiser helmet from risk of rain too. Actually over half the cast from both the 1st and 2nd games would benifit from having this if you wanted to cosplay as them x3.
I want to make a white see through mask but all I can find online are the already chrome ones, so my question is: can I paint over it with to be white? And how
so whats the spray paint called you used to be able to chrome out the visor but still be able to see from the inside. i am working on a big cosplay costume and need this for a final touch.
I have two of them They are very flimsy, fog up quickly too but also you can see through them under medium light so your face is visible This can be fixed by wearing a black balaclava underneath, but your eyes will still be visible if you look closely You might even need breathing tubes to divert breathe to stop fogging, cos it completely blinds you otherwise
Hope you get to show the tinting process, I'd be very interested for a project I'm working on. Rustoleum has a "mirror in a can" spray out right now that really does work (watched a vid of it on youtube here), but I don't think it's see-thru like these need to be. Would like to know what you do to get it see-thru.
cujoedaman you can make it with the mirror in a can if you spray it thin enough. If you spray it to thin, it will be see-through. If to thick, it will just be a mirror
Sooo Could you in theory use this as the "inside lining" to a custom "wrestling luchador mask?" I'd like to make a Diabolical Clown wrestling mask (that's functional for in ring usage.) Which means subjects would need to be able to see and breathe just fine. I know the breathing part has to do with the materials of the mask itself & areas for breathing, BUT I still feel that I need to ask for this mask specifically! I'm sure cutting a mouth & nose hole out of the mask wouldn't be too big of an issue. My only thing is I'd like to see an "eye design" to give off this really scary clown eyes underneath the luchador mask. The point of this is to avoid using contacts in your eyes.
I know the video is kinda old and you probably won’t see it but is there a way to like make it look like that but if you use a light or something to be seen through it but only the lit thing if that makes any sense
I wanted to make a chrome mirror mask I can see they but people can't see in. How do I do this? Is there a link? I want it to be a hard plastic that doesn't bend it crack, unlike those store brought ones. Can I make the store brought ones hard and stronger? Is there a way I can mold a strong plastic with heat?
this is made out of .93 PETG, extremely expensive stuff. I'm probably going to discontinue this item. Plastics companies continually raise their price.
instead of the chroming process you demonstrate here, wouldn't it be possibly easier/simpler to apply a chrome/tinted window film to the dome? i mean you can get the same results and a clearer view on the inside that way instead of the grainy look you can see in you chroming process in this video sample. Not hating, just suggesting alternatives.
Hugo R. Becerra - Not really an option here. in my experience, mirror reflective window vinyls lose the nice, uninterrupted mirror finish when being heat-formed to a compound curve like this. They get cracks in the mirror. The alternate would be a ton of darting and seaming the window vinyl, but tgen you have a seam every couple inches, which is not only hard to hide, but adds more chance for something ro start peeling up. though if you know of mirror vinyl that doesn't get cracks when it's stretched, do share. you have my interest. :P
I'm no window tint expert by any means. My only experience with that is applying the types of window film that you can purchase in auto stores like AutoZone here in the US. Which are glue-on vinyls rather than heat induced materials. That's why I thought applying that would be simpler, since the only time you need heat is if you are attempting to remove them, via a steam cleaner iron unit in order to soften the glue material and be able to peel off the vinyl in one piece and just use a small spatula to scrape off the glue residue (like the one used on a windshield to remove ice). I'm sure you could acquire better glue-on vinyls online to get chrome in a variety of colors. Hope that is of some help.
Hugo R. Becerra well yes, but you can't apply a flat sheet to a surface that curves in both directions like this. with non-mirror vinyls, it's done via some amount of stretching, often with a heat gun for more extreme curves. You can't smoothly wrap a piece of paper around a baseball and cover all surfaces of the curve, for instance.
i get what you're saying. As I said I'm no expert, just spit balling. IF anything i'd go for a chrome dip if possible with the paint that lets you do it your way to minimize the grainy result. again..spit ballin here
