Thanks for this ... I was missing the bit about the plastic "keeper" tab that was preventing me access to the "guts" of the lamp socket. I thought that might be the missing bit but I did not want to fuss with it and possibly cause damage before checking what others had to say about it. FYI - after tying a knot at the switch I then heated the knot ... just a little ... so that the nylon became a little plastic ball that will not come untied. My lamp's pull cord did not snap in two ... it had come untied and fully slipped out of the switch fastener. Heating the cord knot after tying is going to prevent that in the future.
