    The population of Stockholm (proper) is just shy of 1 million and the Metro Area is nearly 1.7 (2022-Macro Trends) although other sources say this number varies a bit. It's much lower than our guest quoted.

    Just a thought from a swede: Have you ever thought about the fact that most american/british people never make an effort to learn our language maybe plays a part in you experiencing swedes as "reserved"?

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, you're not speaking to the interviewee and she probably won't see this unfortunately. You're not wrong about what you said though. It's definitely a blessing and a curse coming from an English speaking country. Blessing - a lot of other speak English and that makes it easy to communicate. Curse - It's more difficult to learn languages because there's little external motivation and often times, others switch to English because they want to practice, find it smoother to communicate rather than listening to someone stumble through their language. We think Swedes are great! Maybe from a North American perspective, they're "reserved", but again, that's all relative. North Americans, especially people from the US are know to be loud in public spaces and possibly talk to you in an elevator. 🤭
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and watching the video. We appreciate it! Our best Swede friend is Viktor from Personal Development Education th-cam.com/channels/nB0bBF_Nnt7ijRU2ILAypg.html

      @@ExpatsEverywhere Hey! I definitely see your point. It's just such a common thing to hear as a swede and I just wanted to highlight the possibility of this in the context of learning a new language. Also, a lot of english speakers do of course make an effort and shouldn't be blamed when others tend to switch to english, I might have been a bit harsh with the "NEVER make an effort"-part. Appreciate your reply! :)

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Subpop878 no, we get exactly what you mean. This is Josh right now btw. We’re in Portugal and literally any time I try to stumble my way through speaking Portuguese, they’ll just switch to English or at times the person I’m speaking with will be a non-native Portuguese speaker so that makes sense but it’s hard to know. 😂
      Overall, comparing Swedes to other European nationalities, you’re more reserved but it’s no slight on Swedes. You all are lovely people. You make friends with a Swede and they’re true friends. True people. So while someone else might be warmer or friendlier from another country, they might not be as genuine as a typical Swede. Don’t take “reserve” as a slight. You guys are awesome 🤩 Thanks for writing, Robin. - Josh

    Getting a personnummer is key to living in Sweden. It was fairly easy for me, as I came over with my girlfriend who is Swedish, but otherwise, it seems like it would have been very difficult to get one, even for EU citizens. Plus, whilst most people do speak good English most employers do require that you speak both Swedish and English, unless it some kind of highly skilled job (in my experience anyway). Also a bike is the best way to get around Stockholm, as it has an amazing cycle network, and public transport is pretty expensive.

    There needs to be separate videos for potential retirees and young people who want to work in a country.
    I will be retiring in 18 months for good and my wife in 5 1/2 years. We will have the means to maintain homes in Tennessee where we live and in a place like Sweden. The main appeal of Sweden is the health care system and the low crime rate. It has a very healthy active lifestyle for people over 50. We also are building a home in the Philippines where my wife is from.
    So for us it is a weather issue. We would live in Sweden in the summer mainly.
    Malmo looks like a very interesting place because you can have lunch in Denmark it is so close and take day trips to Germany.

      one of the worst countries in europe to live in. happiness list is a joke as it usually put scandanavians countries in top, while depression rates there are one of the highest ...
      dark, no social life, no night life for young people like other countries spain, italy or germany.
      most of the people make relation only when they need something ( even partner relations between men and women are based on benefits) not just to enjoy a company of friends or have some fun. this leads to a economical benefits, but again no fun in life...

      if you are a very introvert person then maybe it is a nice place otherwise it is a cold hell .

      Great question! You're going to need an employment offer first to get a work visa so that could be done online before you arrive by reaching out to companies. It sort of depends on the industry you're looking at to know what the hiring practices are. If you're asking if it's possible to go there and find a job, yes. From a visa standpoint, you'll need to work with that new employer to get your paperwork filed and it can be done online.

      First off, thank you so much for the sub. We really appreciate it and it helps with our overall channel growth and reaching a larger audience, so thank you!
      Your questions is really difficult to answer because there aren't necessary "easy" ways to migrate there. If you count this as easy, find a company that's in the US and Sweden, get a job with them with the intention of relocating. When you interview, let them know that you're aware of branch offices in Sweden and that you would be more than willing to move. Getting on an expat package and having a company do your relocation makes it very easy.
      Broadly speaking, the easiest way to move most places is as an ESL teacher because English language education is prolific worldwide, however, some areas of the world are highly competitive and/or don't pay very well.
      Thanks for the encouragement. All the best!

    6 million people in Stockholm? Certainly not! 1,5 million is closer to the truth.

    one of the worst countries in europe to live in. happiness list is a joke as it usually put scandanavians countries in top, while depression rates there are one of the highest ...
    dark, no social life, no night life for young people like other countries spain, italy or germany.
    most of the people make relation only when they need something ( even partner relations between men and women are based on benefits) not just to enjoy a company of friends or have some fun. this leads to a economical benefits, but again no fun in life...

    if you are a very introvert person then maybe it is a nice place otherwise it is a cold hell .
    my opinion after have been in all big european countries.

      Alan
      Huh? Did you actually live in Sweden or were you just visiting? Cause I don't really agree on anything you said there. Ok, it's dark during winter, but on the other hand days are long during summer. Social life is what you make of it. That's for all countries. Young people go out and party like in all other countries. Relationships are based on love, just like in all other countries. What a strange post from you.
