Absolutely! And it means that if you remember some of these things afterwards and you're having work done in your home, and the contractor is telling you oh this is wrong, that is wrong, we need to change this, that and the other thing and it's going to cost you $5,000 more, you should be able to know whether he's telling you true or not.

The difference between 15-$20hr and 40-$60hr. There are different levels of contractors vs handymen. Whenever I come across old Reno's that gave 15yrs of daily use I never comment unless its dangerous.

I love the passion this guy has on the stuff he is working on. Constantly pointing out mistakes, to save others from being electrocuted or hurt. I mean he could just go along and mind his own business. He didn't do it, not his problem. But you can see the passion he has for doing things the right away. I would hire him.

Late to this video but I love this channel. I am a new homebuyer, about a year ago, and this channel has been a huge source of inspiration for home reno. Best part about this video was the comment on demo. "You're uninstalling, not destroying everything with a sledge hammer" is probably one of the smartest thing's I've ever heard anyone say.

He’s an excellent teacher, based purely off his video’s. I imagine that an apprenticeship under his supervision would be far better and much more effective than thru a standard union apprenticeship. This is coming from someone who was going through the carpentry union apprenticeship after leaving the Marines. After a year of training I asked about when we would learn about home finishing work and I was told that I wouldn’t have access to that sort of training until I had a decade worth of seniority in their union and professional development program. I joined the apprenticeship program, not to build houses but to learn how to flip houses. I told the instructor that I wanted to learn how to do interior renovations so I could buy foreclosures and flip them. He guided me to leave the apprenticeship and get a job working for a private company if that was my goal. I took his advice and tried to get on with a private company that built homes on a large scale. Building entire neighborhoods as well as the community centers that create an atmosphere of community. Turns out that in Las Vegas there’s Unions, Casino Industry, Trade Show and conventions industry and everything else that doesn’t involve gambling or alcohol is controlled by the Mormon community. Never even occurred to me that there would be a huge Mormon presence in sin city but there is and getting a job such as what I wanted to do required being a member of the Mormon church. So after I found that out I left Nevada completely. I wish there were more people such as Jeff and I may have been able to learn what I needed because of his leadership.

I think it's really cool how he shows the little tips he gives his sons, as well. I can't wait to start my own kitchen and bathroom demo with my son. For others who may try the concrete countertop, if you need to patch you can run the mix through a screen to separate any larger aggregate, which also works good for a slurry mix. Just an FYI option.

I can tell that your team really does respect you,and I believe this for two reasons: the first part of the video, they listened to you explain the "game plan" of the day,and also things to watch out for,and you also (unto that) related that you would take care of the electrical and water part of it(I loved that you had someone double check that the water/electrical WAS indeed, off, before you and your team worked on the demo.
I love that you also explained the WHY of it,and I'm not sure if this was for the viewer's information or to also remind the team, which brings me to the second thing:
I really enjoy that you "think aloud" because you let people around you(your team and the audience) know the WHY of the things that are happening. Whether you knew before or after, but you explained things about the range hood/stove that led you to believe that you and your team should not trust the electrical, and another example was found later on in the demo. I liked seeing the cabinet door demo, and you saw your team member struggling(sometimes being on camera is part of it....a lot of people act different upon being observed),but I liked that you suggested,"hey, try it my way" and then you did the thing.
Anyway,I really do enjoy watching these lengthy,in-depth videos from you.
I'm a novice, and have laid vinyl in my kitchen already, and holy gods,I learned so much through that room alone. I do want to do a tiny bit of remodeling if possible in the future.
The scariest thing I learned so far(I'm 42 minutes in at this point),was how you described the warnings about removing corner bead(scary because I hadn't realized the caution one should have regarding that process),and that just goes to show that great teachers really do think aloud.
I feel like I over-explain some things at work, because I've been at the same job for a while(7+ years at a hardware store),but this video kind of makes me feel better about the way I teach new people. "You don't know what you don't know",so anyway-i do tend to ramble on,but I really do enjoy your videos,I always learn something new,so thank you again to you and your team!

    • @jentheghost3364
      @jentheghost3364 ปีที่แล้ว

@53 minutes now, this is where I'm paying attention;my living room is next and I've been wary about it because the wall branching off from the kitchen area(vinyl in the kitchen and transitioning to laminate)is worrisome because my fiance noticed before I did, that the wall is massively warped. Upon dry-fitting,that wall is about an inch away from a straight line in one area, and I don't plan on buying quarter round(I deleted a whole tangent of information at this point),but I left the two layers of sheet vinyl in case of asbestos, because I figured the added material would level out with the vinyl with the transition to laminate pretty well anyway. I laid tile for the back porch which is next to the kitchen/dining room area, but there's a gap between that tile and the vinyl kitchen, which will fill in with the laminate,so I did find a way to square out that area by notching out the laminate slightly, around the tile so that the planks wouldn't fade into a 1' increment by the time it reached the other side. I figured that by laying it this way, because of the "noticeable traffic" in that particular area,I could sacrifice the plank for that faulty wall. It took a few hours to work that first row(and this living room is ridiculously 16' long by 14' wide. It is daunting for me,and I know how important that first row really is,just based on the kitchen(which worked out fine, but the cabinets were actually out of square top, which sucked for me in my first install).
Anyway,I imagine I'll keep talking about this stupid project because I really love stuff like this, but it can be difficult, done alone,so that's why I'm kind of telling a tiny little story here.
P.s. I concur:starting with the small side first makes a lot of sense, and I definitely WILL be utilizing the custom tapping block for this living room project! Thank you for that reminder, and showing why it makes sense!!

I really like the information you are putting out there for us homeowners and DIYers. My chief complaint is that you are regularly trash-talking the people that came before you. These people, in many cases, were DIYers just like the people you are catering to for these videos. Unfortunately for them, they didn't have you as a resource when they did their project. 😉 It's a little off-putting and I find myself wanting to find another video. Thank you for teaching us; it is highly appreciated.

It does come off a little bit arrogant, but he's pointing it out to not only call out people who do it wrong, but also encourage whoever is going to tackle a project to do it the right way. Coming from a homeowner who is finding all sorts of stuff done illegally/not to code/just stupid I can totally relate. He is being honest and I guarantee he is toning it down from how it would really sound if he was just working the job with no cameras.

Hi sir , I would like to join your team as a helper , I have 2 years experience in renovation. I also wanted to say thank you for putting up this instructional reno video’s , I don’t know why some people leave negative comments , I don’t understand it, I feel like they’ve never been on a construction jobsite. The way you point out mistakes and superiority of your crew is okay. “If you can’t take constructive criticism in construction then this is not for you” .

Jeff, you’d be screaming “what an idiot!” If you redid anything in our house too! The guy who flipped this house we bought cut as many corners as he possibly could. We found an outlet behind paneling we removed when refinishing a room into a music studio. It was sparking the insulation and wall. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It will be “exciting” to see what we find when we get the money together to renovate our kitchen. For now we are using corner brackets to stop the new cabinets from pulling apart because they didn’t install them right.

Then I realized he's a mixture of every carpenter and tradesman I've worked with over the years and that's why it seems like I already know him. And maybe our minds operate kinda the same. Whatever it is, I can tell I'm going to be watching this channel a bunch! Thanks for not being super polished but at least organized and straightforward and down to earth. Kitchen looks great. But my goodness, don't throw the decent cabinets in the garbage! Donate them to a place like the ReStore. It will keep them out of the landfill, let them have a new life, and ReStore makes money for the Habitat for Humanity programs. And you get a tax donation.

Its sad that my generation is just spoiled and do not know the meaning of hard work and dedication.
