      Hi Lindsay...miss the live sessions on Friday, but very happy to see this one. My paints are out of pocket right now, so have to wait to do this little gem. So happy to have watercolor demos again vs pastels, and other crafts. My passion is for watercolor. Thank you, thank you...

      Hi Lindsay! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just got done re-watching it and was getting ready to get started, but I got this error when I clicked on the reference link. “404. That’s an error.
      The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.”
      I think I am going to try this by just using your painting as my reference. I truly love cosmos. They are one of my favorite wildflowers. This is so pretty!

    Thank you so much Lindsay. Yay, beginner Wednesday! My grandchildren, ( vectors of disease and pestilence), brought home the 3 to five day plague. I took care of everyone, now it's my turn. I will definitely try this one when my bones don't feel like they are melting. I figure by the weekend. 😉🤒🤕💙💚💛💜

    You're correct, bright yellow goldfinch is the male, females and the younger birds are a olive green color. I used to have a bird feeder outside my kitchen window so I got to observe them alot while washing dishes (the old fashioned way). Thanks for these Wednesday tutorials, I really appreciate them. Take care and God bless.

Chose this to watch immediately after, as a result of what you said & I believe this is the 1st time ever that all recommendations related to things I'd actually watch, rather than the usual big-money tv channels.

      The paper is great, just keep in mind it is a block not a pad so you will need to remove each sheet after you paint it. That said I will turn mine into a journal when I'm done. Oh and I'm pretty sure I will have the cover stained before I am done so if that worries you you might want a black one:)

    Hi! I haven't commented in some time but I continue to watch and love your work. I am one state closer to you; I moved back to my family farm in VA. 2 QUESTIONS: Please recommend an artist quality transparent palette, preferably no granulating colors and especially high light-fastness?. #2. QUESTION: I want Derwent Inktense pencils or blocks. I want to paint on silk, restore an antique damask material and paint fantasy and cards for children. I re-watched your review and preference for the pencils but I am too impatient to get watercolor pencil paint onto paper USING A BRUSH TO THE PENCIL-TIP. I liked the way you used the blocks like a pan palette. What were your reasons for your pencil perference and where/when is a good time a year to purchase the 72 set? I get most of my supplies from Jerry's Artarama thanks so much for all the savings I enjoy because of your videos. However, they send me so many sale notices I find I don't read them at all now.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Mission gold pure pigment set or 24 half pan set. 2. It's a personal choice, I liked the pencils better but if you think the blocks are better for you get those. They also now have 2 different 12 pan sets you might like. I don't know when the best time to buy is, if day if the go lower than $70 for 72 set go for it.

    Another fun project Lindsay. I'm wondering how do you decide whether to use hot press or cold press? I've mostly used cold press and rough and the one time I tried hot press I didn't have much success. I'd like to try the Paul Rubens paper.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's prefetence. I like cold press for most, dough for landscapes and hot press for #portrait or botanical subjects but you can use what you want for any;) hot press has a learning curve, give it another try if you have it:)

    I wonder if you add a little ox gall to the water, it would increase the flow?! Hm...... Would be interesting for someone who already has the paints could compare both methods.

  • @ChristinaFurnerWebber
    @ChristinaFurnerWebber 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Lindsay 😊 the water you brushed on before painting, is there a way to tell if you have too much water, not enough, or just the right amount??
    And is drawing a must for your watercolor flower class?? I can’t draw😢
    Thank you for your help!!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Christina, the wetness of the paper depends on the effect you want. A good rule of thumb for a wet in wet background is an even sheen but if you tip the paper vertically you should not have drips. If it is puddlely just blot the paper with a clean towel or paper towel and brush over it with a dry or damp brush to equalize it. I usually wet my paper then go and mix colors for a wash and by then it is perfectly wet. The more you paint the more you get the hang of it.
      As for the flower class the only drawing we do is tracing a circle for a wreath and making a rounded rectangle for a vase. I have one advanced painting but a pattern is provided. Everything else we are building with brushstroke techniques. I am sure you can do it, if you are not happy I have a 30 day refund policy:)

    there is something about sets of color that sparks a "i want this in my life" feeling, and with watercolors coming out in so many different sets and colors it's a struggle :D for some reason i feel like i don't want to buy the W&N cotman, is it a good set to have in the collection? i get suspicious when everyone says a brand is good.. can't really explain it :D

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cotman is a reliable student grade set. If you have other paints you are happy with skip it. I recon it is highly used and reccomened because it is easy to find worldwide and affordable.

    Do you use any art rules when it comes to drawing birds? I have watched John Muir Laws....He gives good information! but can take out the joy of creating! I love birds! I love butterflies and flowers etc ...So is it good to get very in depth? Does this learn you to loosen up while taking on the in depth principles of creating?
