So this is coming from somebody who is currently learning 3 languages and ive talked to people from different countries. America seems to be the ONLY one who has such issues. In reality most people dont care or find it offensive. If anything the only thing that matters is you are respectful towards it. So for example in japan they LOVE when foreigners try there style such as the kimono all they ask is to wear it properly like it should worn and to be respectful when wearing it. Its mostly an American type mindset that we have created. I find it a bit dumb honestly. Ive always been into different cultures and etc. You cant understand a culture if you personally havent tried to embrace it and experience it for yourself. Think of it as somebody who might have a mental illness. Somebody who has never had depression might be totally confused when somebody who does have depression tries to explain it and how they feel. Some things people feel like they need to gate keep to keep away from others knowledge. People from all around the country seem to be very open when showing there culture and daily life. If anything its probably fascinating from both sides to encounter something you have no experience with. So likes tribes in africa are actually open to people from outside coming into the tribe to experience it and exactly how they live and etc. Its all about having respect for it. However i will admit some things are very meaningful and shouldnt done. For example the feathers that native americans would wear where all from accomplishments and things THEY personally achieved. I find it disresepctful to grab one and put feathers on it just to replicate something so important in that culture. However its hard to know the meaning behind every little thing. I didnt know the meaning behind it till i was like 15 and it just came past me randomly in school i believe and its stayed with me.
Considering how many people from said cultures you are “informing” people about correct you on things, I think for these kinds of videos you need to actually ask people from said culture about these things instead of people needing to correct you. (Btw this isn’t meant to be passive aggressive or anything I’m just saying)
as a Guatemalan-we celebrate dia de los todos santos-everything you said sounds right to me. I live in the US and have a lot of family that live in Guatemala. but the reason that a lot of people who live in Central America don’t really care about cultural appropriation is because they aren’t constantly surrounded by people who look down on our traditions. It’s obviously very different depending on where you go because the societal implications are much different. the US is a country built on colonization, and anything outside of a Eurocentric American box can be looked down on or discriminated against. it’s our culture not a costume, so I would say if you’re going to a Halloween party, don’t wear catrina makeup
I have a question can I use the sugar skull makeup for Halloween with out adding like gore (like if a relative passed on Halloween and they loved Mexican culture
Yes you can use the Catarina make up but if you do your research of speak to Mexicans roots they will all tell you there's nothing gore about it. It's simply colorful beautiful make up. Some people use it as a Halloween costume and make it look gory but that's all just add on they do themselves is not actually meant to look like that. If you're using it as a form as appreciation them I suggest for you to do your research and speak to people with that nationality 😅😊🎉
It’s so sad that common sense doesn’t prevail with what appreciation is, and that even recognising terms like appropriation, simply means you respect the right to not share 😂 we are all human, everyone has the right to do and like what they please, regardless of what culture it comes from. Sense is no longer common, it seems. Central bank is really winning the psychological war here isn’t it.
I feel like it’s not appropriation as long as your not claiming it as your culture (if it’s not your culture) and it’s purely to enjoy the culture, if you do it becuase you want to make fun of someone or to do it for fame or popularity
Hey, born and raised Mexican here! 99.9% of Mexican folk have absolutely no problem with people dressing up in catrina makeup, or even those "so stereotypical it seems racist" costumes. In general, cultural appropriation isn't really a prevalent concern for most people here, except when we're talking from closed-off cultures of indigenous folk such as tzotziles or tzeltales since clothing is culturally significant for them and not a costume like what is traditionally worn in dia de muertos or even charros and other dance-related traditional wear, which is all at the end of the day a costume for us. Overall, always research that what you're wearing isn't clothing from a specific indigenous group and you're in the clear. Aside from that, usual things that fall more on the "inappropriate" side of dressing in Mexican culture would be to copy the Chola aesthetic, for more or less the same reason as indigenous groups (it's in bad taste to use as costume someone's everyday wear and it singles them out, especially when they've been discriminated for dressing that way). Go forth and have fun with this knowledge!
@@viivii6817 who's saying I'm speaking for every Mexican on earth? I wanna say a quick story and I want to know if it's offensive or not I seriously interest myself into culture mythology etc as of rn im learning Mexican culture and I personally interest myself with respect and i wanted to celebrate Día De Muertos but i felt it would've been insulting if i did. I've seen many people seeing "oh putting sugar skull make up is offensive unless if your Hispanic" or when i was learning about Asian culture i wore a Kimono to celebrate Obon (it just seemed appropriate) and people we're calling me racist and trying to steal other people culture (im caucasian Quebec and seriously i just like to participate in any sorta culture out of pure respect) This year for Día De Muertos i didn't do anything. Sadly.

Yeah we don’t care lol as long as you don’t blatantly say “I hate beaners” then ur good. Makeup looks amazing
ESTO 😭🖐🏽
💀💀💀💀
It’s obviously very different depending on where you go because the societal implications are much different. the US is a country built on colonization, and anything outside of a Eurocentric American box can be looked down on or discriminated against. it’s our culture not a costume, so I would say if you’re going to a Halloween party, don’t wear catrina makeup
we mexicans do not care and rather feel honored.
We need Tom Holland and Millie Bobby brown and Noah shnapp now in painting form
I have a question can I use the sugar skull makeup for Halloween with out adding like gore (like if a relative passed on Halloween and they loved Mexican culture
Yes you can use the Catarina make up but if you do your research of speak to Mexicans roots they will all tell you there's nothing gore about it. It's simply colorful beautiful make up. Some people use it as a Halloween costume and make it look gory but that's all just add on they do themselves is not actually meant to look like that. If you're using it as a form as appreciation them I suggest for you to do your research and speak to people with that nationality 😅😊🎉

Wait is day of the dead November 1st or second-
It’s so sad that common sense doesn’t prevail with what appreciation is, and that even recognising terms like appropriation, simply means you respect the right to not share 😂 we are all human, everyone has the right to do and like what they please, regardless of what culture it comes from.
Anyone know what this paint makeup set is called and/or by ??
It’s my birthdays at I’m turning 10 and my name is also Mya 😂
Btw Día de los muertos is on the second. Not the first. The first is El día de los Santos
Cultures are meant to be shared, and you should never make fun of it
Who said that? No one owes you their culture
@@viivii6817 if you don’t shutcho ass up I’m boutta whoop it.
are you getting offended on other peoples behalf? 😭😭
Shut up you don’t speak for all of us.
@@viivii6817 who's saying I'm speaking for every Mexican on earth? You're welcome to disagree with me, it's only normal when there's so many of us with different perspectives in life, but is still true that every single person I've asked had no negative reaction to the idea of Americans doing catrina makeup. Just as you're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine, and it's ridiculous that instead of actually sharing your side on things you're just throwing a pissy fit because we don't agree.
You'll need to try harder if the entirety of your argument is "shut up".

Me, who plans to celebrate Day of the Dead with my Hispanic bestie next year by painting my face: Dang how unfortunate. Doing it anyways cause idgaf for one and for two, nobody actually cares unless you have snow for feelings. Hence why we call people "Special snowflakes" for being sensitive. There's a time and a place, and these talks i just find offensive imo. It's like, we say it's not offensive and then people are like "Nonon, shush shuh, we know what's offensive and what's not" like stfu. I can't speak for any Hispanics, though a comment below me gave good insight thank you, but it's happened with Native American Culture and i just personally find it offensive.
I wanna say a quick story and I want to know if it's offensive or not
I seriously interest myself into culture mythology etc as of rn im learning Mexican culture and I personally interest myself with respect and i wanted to celebrate Día De Muertos but i felt it would've been insulting if i did. I've seen many people seeing "oh putting sugar skull make up is offensive unless if your Hispanic" or when i was learning about Asian culture i wore a Kimono to celebrate Obon (it just seemed appropriate) and people we're calling me racist and trying to steal other people culture (im caucasian Quebec and seriously i just like to participate in any sorta culture out of pure respect)
This year for Día De Muertos i didn't do anything. Sadly.
@and im johnny I actually heard about that but because I didn't know any of the matching colors i just wore black and white
@and im johnny girl go shove a pickle up your ass
Or we could just do what we want and stop getting offended by shit
No
Sweetie the day of the dead is November 2nd, some schools even get that day as a holiday. November the first is the " day of all Saints ". In mexican calendars the day of the dead is always November 2nd but i just googled it and it says that it's November 1st and 2nd. So, nah google got that one wrong.
SLAY
Btw day of the dead is also celebrated November 2 I only know that bc it’s my birthday 😅
What what make up?

Its nov the 2nd
I think culture appropriation is a joke, but gatekeeping for a culture that isn’t even yours is a whole new level 😂

Not offensive sweetie. Put blood and horror aspect to it, have fun!!!
Your Asian I'm guessing, based on your username and profile. You shouldn't speak on a what isn't and is offensive on a tradition that you don't celebrate.

Even if it is cultural appropriation, what the hell are yall gonna do about it? You can't cancel someone in real life. Culture shouldn't be gatekeeped it is for the world to enjoy. You don't need an in depth understanding of something to enjoy it. The west is fucked.
You don’t need to participate to appreciate
Antes que nada soy mexicana nacida y criada en Mexico así que no salgan con la estupidez de descalificar mi comentario y opinión ok? Todos tenemos nuestros puntos de vista y deben ser escuchados y respetado aunque no los compartamos
Oooo… don’t worry is not cultural apropation is just a representation of an old parody of the rich people in the 1900. So use it as you wish :)
I must say tha for me is so beutifull to se more people interest in my culture and get inspired by it.
Even if our holyday is for remember the ones that gone is also a celebration of life, we have to keep going and live. THATS WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BE AFRAID OF HONORING THIS PARTY AS YOU WISH, BEING TERRORIFIC OR TRADITIONAL JUST BE HAPPY AND REMEMBER THAT ALL OF US WILL GET TO GRAVE BUT EVEN IF THAT’S TRUE WE HAVE TO LIVE OUR LIFE THE BEST.
Also i love your videos
❤❤❤
You don’t speak for all of us and it’s an indigenous celebration not just “Mexican”
Ask any Mexican and they would tell you that it’s great to see people embrace their culture, so your first statement is not only illogical, but completely ignores the true feelings and thoughts of us Mexicans. Try to consider other cultures as is, instead forcing your own opinions on to them, because that is wrong.
Bro stop lying ppl ain’t sensitive abt this fr just scaring ppl into not wanting to celebrate it because they might seriously offend someone.
People say everything is cultural appropriation but when the people from the actual culture say it’s not they even try to fight against them unbelievable
That flirty one made me feel something
Suicidal
you sure this the right video dawg

Why is it only Americans warning about a made up issue... Cultural appropriation, what? I would be so proud if people would try and recreate my Bulgarian culture, food, songs, our folklore dances and dresses. In Europe, we are happy to see when different countries exchange cultural knowledge. Reminds me of that African village that learned Bulgarian dances because they liked the way folklore sounds or Japanese appreciating Bulgarian stuff. I predominantly see people *not from a specific culture* feeling offended on the behalf of said culture.
A lot of Mexicans don’t care about this and a lot DONT celebrate because I know a lot of Mexican families in Mexico and as a Mexican my self
Because it’s an indigenous celebration
As a Mexican, I don’t give a fuck about what you do. Idk if this is just my family, but, when we see someone who isn’t Mexican wear traditional clothing, we get so excited. So, actually, do this more often.
reposting it with a different audio seems like a pretty lazy way to make content
FOLLOW JESUS. the time is coming up! He’s coming back so soon, and if you’re not ready for Him, you’ll be caught off guard and sent to hell. make sure you’re prepared. repent of all sins and obey Jesus. that’s how to get to heaven, not worshiping people or other gods. Jesus is the ONLY way. He died on the cross paying the fine for OUR sins. we deserved that cross, yet He loved us so much, but He hates sin!!🔥🔥🔥 repent and obey Jesus!🌷🌸💚🌿💧
