you misunderstood... most of it is pain, not passion, I personally love the song too and Chester but I would never ask him to sing it cuz in order to do it properly he need to go back to the place that made him write it... those legendary 17 seconds of his scream are legendary, cuz thats the sonic representation of pain, not becouse its the greatest metal scream ever, that goes to TOOLs Grudge... RIP Chester
The live version (in LA I think) is the best version of this son outside of the studio. That whole 17 second scream isn’t avoided. It’s welcomed in all its painful power and it’s INCREDIBLE to hear him to it live
Congratulations. You have just witnessed the pure brilliance of Chester Bennington. The 17-second scream is the most epic thing I have ever seen. He has done it live too. And he immediately comes out of the longest scream ever and immediately starts singing again.
The 17 second scream IS ABSOLUTELY wild, but hitting the PERFECT "Given uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuppp" immediately after a scream like that is otherworldly control. When people ask me why I think Chester was one of the best vocalists ever, I show them this song. Rest in peace Chester. ❤

Homie needs to chill. It hits different because he was screaming for help for so long and this song, after his suicide, really shows that he really was close to the end. James Hetfield wrote Fade to Black where he talks about killing himself throughout the entire song. That song came out in '84 and James is still with us. Chester really meant that shit. There are tons of people who listen to the song, and just think "hurr hurr man make funni long scream" and they pay zero attention to the lyrics. This person just said, after Chester killed himself, in a way, makes hearing this song sound like listening to his suicide note. And a suicide note before the suicide always hits different than before.
Recently Taylor Swift was recognized for holding a "singing note" for 13 seconds in a live show. Chester held a 17 second SCREAM in at least one live show, and kept singing after. All points to Chester!
@@Michael97Moore I fully agree. Honestly not many people can compare to him. I just found it funny that the "Swifty's" were thinking she was so great for holding her note. Sorry Swifty's, but Chester beat that a LONG time ago
I listened to this song just about every day when I was in Iraq in 2009. It sort of gave me the strength to get through another day when I was absolutely miserable and felt there was no other way out. Very relatable and raw, unlike a lot of other songs that try to convey pain, but do it in a pseudo-abstract and less relatable way. Definitely a fantastic song for people who are in a shitty spot and feel like nobody is listening or understands except Chester. He will be remembered for this and the rest of his art.
That Chester's elongated scream (17 seconds!!!) has become legendary. People challenge themselves to it and even tho some can forfeit breathing for that long, no one does it as powerfully as Chester did.
Chester putting all of himself in these songs is really what makes Linkin Park songs so special. His vocals were insane and he is still an inspiration for lots of other vocalists. He will always be a part of us, rip legend, hope you're doing well and teaching angels how to sing up there.
Chester was sick!!!! One of the greatest vocalists of the 2000s. Chester, Chris Cornell and Corey Taylor - golden era total Queen Rachel as always making an impeccable reaction!!

Chester is the GOAT of vocals man! He really sings/screams like that live, it's incredible! Watch some of their live shows from early 2000's, brilliant! Rip you brilliant man! I was fortunate to watch them live back in the day and it was just incredible, really!
Its so eerie how he literally told everyone what he was going to do. Rip. As a guy constantly on the s side tightrope day to day i can understand how easy it can be to just lose grip.

this was one of the first songs i ever learned to play on the guitar and it's still one of my favorites from LP, then again so many songs they made are my favorites
Chester had lyrics of things most in the world only wish they had balls to say. He put so so much in his music and and performances it was unreal! SUCH great huge loss to the world! He had several songs that could be considered dark. But so many can relate to it, its in us all!
As a therapist and metal fan I actually bring Chester right into session with my clients who can't find the words if they are willing to give it a go. Simply hit play and encourage them to put a thumb up each time it resonates. It's powerful, emotional, and so wonderful to see people actually connect with the messages they relate to.

He was my fav musician all time so his death hit hard and is still hard when I hear LP but, I love this band, always will! I love watching the reaction to his 17 sec vocal scream! There will never be another talent like him again! So glad i got to him live!
god, i remember listening to this for the first time in middle school. i was coming home, jamming out to this, and then i get to the first scream and i slow the walking. my attention is fully on the breakdown. i start headbanging a little bit but feel bad that im jamming out to "put me out of my misery". and then i hear the second scream, my jaw hits the floor, i have stopped walking completely. after he was done i immediately yell out "HOOOOLY SHIT DUDE" and keep walking and nodding my head. its a song that i wish i could listen to for the first time again.
Chester a true voice of a generation there will never ...... ever be another. Thank you chester and the guys of LP yalls music got me and many others through tough dark times of life.
Not only is it impressive for him to scream that long but to switch from high to low and not let that transition ruin his ability to finish the scream. I've seen live performances even he can't hit the whole scream in 1 breath and that could be partially due to exhausted vocal chords. But he's legendary. You have to be a beast mode singer to sing as well as he does. I can do the singing parts but definitely not that scream lol
His vocal tone is iconic, but the most impressive thing is that he can pull of those long screams and then go back to singing immediately without any breath lost
Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your reaction to this song! I really love Linkin Park, and I suggest you do some more of their songs because the albums Hybrid Theory and Meteora are literally some of the best albums of the early 2000's. If you're up to it, listen to "Linkin Park Given Up live at Milton Keynes", because their sound live is breathtaking. Chester during this song live is just absolutely INSANE! He's the real reason why I learned to sing and scream in the first place. RIP Chester Bennington, we will never forget you.

So, I sorta appear in the music video for this lol, for not even half a second. This was filmed on the UK leg of their Minutes to midnight tour. I was 16 just turning 17. Myself and my brother queued up at midday. Show wasn't due to open doors till like 7 or 8. So we were some of the 1st in the queue to get in! We were right up the front, pinned to the barriers. Was an awesome show, Chester could pull off that scream back then, no doubt its so harsh on your voice to do that. Funny anecdote, Mike sang Umbrella by Rihanna, and everyone booed when the band say they stole a lighter gimmick from My Chemical Romance. Was my first time seeing them live, and I'm so grateful to say I did. Miss you Chester and thanks for the memories of that concert. :) Still have the mp3s of that concert!

The 17 sec scream in the song is unedited, he actually pulled off that full scream. When they were tracking the scream, he pushed himself beyond his limit and kept screaming over and over again to lengthen the scream.
The video gave me emotions, I miss Chester very much and when I watch Linkin Park I get tears of emotion, I really liked your reaction video, I would like to give you a big hug but he sent you a big virtual hug 🥹🫂❤️ I hope you are well, I I am in pain because they removed my wisdom tooth 😞

Heard em when they first blew up to their last album before Chester died... That guy literally had nearly indestructible vocal chords... He's been screaming since album 1 like this and LIVE IN CONCERTS, in EVERY concert... Usually you'll see most singers lose the ability to do so because of natural degradation and degradation from screaming but it was nearly before he passed away where I heard he FINALLY had to get them fixed somehow.... How do you do that, like physically? For decades? Through countless concerts, over and over and over yet still be the vocal hard rock frontman who can rip screams night after night? Truly one of a kind... He and Matt Bellamy defy longevity and how versatile they were and still are (or would have still been for Chester), especially live
Before you hear this song but you've heard other Linkin Park stuff you don't necessarily think about it but Chester had THE perfect voice and range for a punk song. It fits absolutely flawlessly.
There are songs you hear that you hear the singers pain, in this song you feel that pain in your soul. Now, if you didnt know, Chester, the lead singer was deep in depression and would evenrually commit suicide in 2017. I will go to my grave that this song in particular was Chesters cry for help. Communicating that he needed something anything to pull him out of the darkness and yet it just kinda went under the rug for so long that it eventually robbed him of his life.
I was growing up on chesters music.i was too young to understand he was actually screaming out his own pain. But one thing i wanna point out.. just look at the fact that every vocal coach or singer who listens him has so kuch problems to describe his voice, you cant find words to explain his talent.there is no shelf you could put him into . He was original, talented and authentic.. rip chester. Im so sorry i was too young to understand you
That was an 18 second scream. Chester had a rare ability to breath from the back of his lungs while singing/screaming. Very few singers learn that ability. He didnt get quieter at the end he just did a pitch change to a lower pitch.
Till this day, the 17 second scream is one of the hardest challenges a rock/metal vocalist has to try and achieve. After Chester's death, ALL songs have a completely different meaning for me. It's like this for a lot of LP fans. There's the lyrcis before his death, and then there's the lyrcis after his death.
Chester is definitely one of a kind. That 17 second vocal hold is sick and super impressive!! He will be missed though. RIP Chester ❤

Im so sorry i was too young to understand you
Man I always love your reactions so much! Hope you have a great day 🫶🏼
That was an 18 second scream.
There's the lyrcis before his death, and then there's the lyrcis after his death.
yes no words can explain this scream
4:42 that's what she said..... I'm sorry I had to say it
BAHAHAH
