    Gotoh makes those trems for Ibanez.

  • @JoeR203
    @JoeR203 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I put a 1996T in my Jr about a year ago. It flutters better than the stock trem did. Also, no matter how much I tightened the allen screw, the trem bar would never stay tight for long. It would always come loose and swing down from where I left it.

    • @Feverdream7777
      @Feverdream7777 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the 1996t doesn't just push in, it screws in, around an invisiable center post in bottom of the trem... like an old Fender. Once you turn it 12 times, it will bottom out. from there, then you adjust the small allen screw for tension.

    What size drill did you use to drill the wood?
    excellent video!

      @tightwadproductions961  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @thiagopmafra Unfortunately, I didn't record the size. I did work my up in drill size until I could hammer in the bushings. Get a cheap set of the gold drill bits from Harbor Freight that have 64th sizes and go up to 1/2 inch. Then you can work up as I did and also reduce the chance of overshooting if your drill chuck has bad runout.

    Nice, That's what I've done to my white JEM JR 2 years ago. The GE1996T is an amazing tremolo with great stability, However, Take good care of the trem though, those saddles burr in a year so make sure you check them out every setup/restring.
    SS frets have been a breeze, they're amazing and they make my JEM play like butter.

    One of the "must do'" with These Budget Jems for me Is I redo the neck in birchwood casey gunstock oil. Hate the way they feel and look stock. With the gunstock oil they feel a lot more expensive And in my opinion look better.

    amazing video !
    can i use the original post and put the gotoh studs in them ? instead of drilling and all that mess? i gues it would be the same right ?

    • @tightwadproductions961
      @tightwadproductions961  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately, the Gotoh studs are a larger thread diameter and won't fit. If you could source studs that are harder than the factory ones but have the same thread pitch, they should work fine.

    • @Neshek023
      @Neshek023 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have to drill. Watch my video. If you use the old studs, which are really bad pot metal, the gotoh trem is useless. th-cam.com/video/CdklpfCnUig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iuCl2m03idiTuR6y

      ALternatively buy a set of original Floyd Rose studs (much harder than teh 'Special studs). These will fit the stock Ibanez inserts. No drilling. Works a treat

    • @tightwadproductions961
      @tightwadproductions961  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @zz1hou the sustain block fit perfect in mine, I believe the factory one measured 0.5-1mm longer than the 33mm replacement. Other than that the trem itself gets close to one edge of the cavity on the top side but does not actually touch.

    • @tightwadproductions961
      @tightwadproductions961  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is possible. However, it's not recommended as the factory posts are likely too soft to hold up well long-term.

    • @JoeR203
      @JoeR203 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did. It's much safer than trying to drill a bigger hole for the 11mm Gotoh posts. There's not much wood there. You can always just get better posts. The stock sleeves are buried in the body. They're not going anywhere.

    Here is my take:you HAVE to use the gotoh studs, otherwise your gotoh trem knife edges will wear out the pot metal studs from the Ibanez. It is like buying a Porsche and put wooden wheels on it. Here is how I did it th-cam.com/video/CdklpfCnUig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iuCl2m03idiTuR6y

      I think its more safer to buy the original floyd rose stud and just insert it without using the gotoh stud. It all matches anyway with needing to drill.
