I agree with one of the comments below. This is a stepper motor. The type with 3 wires instead of 4. I happen to have one of these stepper motors (Nema 17 size). It can be driven with a normal 3 phase ESC (electronic speed controller). It also generates power when rotated.
It is also 'reinventing' the early 'pancake' motors/generators from Tesla/Westinghouse, but this time with permanent magnets. However, those old motors had an advantage when starting under heavy load, because simply shorting across the slip rings of the wound rotor turned them into _induction motors._

If we just put a coil and capacitor In series And we use a Pulse Width modulator To control it We wouldn't need : Gear boxes fly wheels Wind Turbines Hydro turbines The computer would regulate its torque
This design looks identical to that used in hybrid stepper motors. The problem with the design is the high magnetic leakage. This is a problem in any motor (& generator) with reluctor because "magnetic insulator" does not exist. Its ability to generate/accept high torque is way lower than mechanical contract (gearbox). NOTHING NEW. It would have to be 5x bigger & heavier than gearbox. All magnetic machines suffer from speed scaling problem. The power they can handle is proportional to speed squared. This is why the majority of motors (& generators) are designed to operate at high-speed. If the load/prime mover can move fast, then direct coupling is possible. But for many applications, that can't happen, so this is why there are so many gearboxes on motors & generators.
Not likely with Vestas, they will be expecting the turbine in the test centre to be around for 10 years or so, although one would expect an uprated output in that time but they won't go direct drive. The cost of the Permanent magnets would be simple to high to justify over a faster turning generator with a gearbox.
As others have noted, this is quite similar to hybrid stepper motors, but scaled up and three-phase. I don't see this type of motor being adopted in wind applications soon, if ever. Type 3 and type 4 machines already accommodate variable rotor speed (though a gearbox is still required), the technology is pretty mature, and the industry has become comfortable with them. I guess It ultimately comes down to overall cost of ownership. Mounting all those magnets on the pole pieces seems pretty costly. There was no information on power density, but it seems unlikely to be great. On the other hand, eliminating the gearbox is a nice reduction in capital and maintenance costs. If those stator pole pieces can be made removable, that would also be a nice maintenance advantage, since fixing a winding problem would not require dismounting the entire motor. If they can figure out how to replace the rotor bearing without having to dismount the motor, that would also be a nice maintenance feature. From my time with GE, bearing failures were by far the most common failure mode, followed by winding failures. Frankly, there isn't much else that can go wrong with a motor. I guess there is at least the potential for these machines to have a cost advantage.
I'm trying to create a 360-phase transmission system. But also in a conical induction motor, spherical kind of needs a big sphere that isn't one of ours. Although the moon is definitely an option for spacestation. Just wrap a ring, or many rings around it at the appropriate distance,

How is this different than the Siemens 1FW3 torque motor? High pole count 3 phase motor excellent at low speed high torque applications. They're still expensive compared to standard 3 phase motor + gearbox. Isnt this design already well known in machine design as high pole torque motors?
I am no engineer so exuse my lack of understanding, but isn't this a similar or even same effect as of rail guns or magnetic railway systems, just mmm without and end where the moving projectile then is released from?
Couldn't the new hydro motor, be very useful for alternating liquid transmission downwards. Instead of a pipe potentially having pressure built up, you can periodically separate water transmission down towards the earths core. You can effectively put a plug on huge bodies of water, by sometimes opening up to let water down a little. This would probably make automated bubbles too haha

Excellent channel, and it is a great addition to the Sci-Tech TH-cam pretty interesting community… I wish to see more videos, and please go into details a bit further and keep a simplified version for shorts (that you can just cut from the longer version obviously) I guess AI can help you a lot, so take max advantage of it... I think Motors is an excellent niche and more people need to know a lot more on the subject without having to detain an engineering degree. Innovations will be more fascinating when more people get interested in something and try to come up with solutions that further the field and improve the lives of billions of people by making things more economically viable, affordable or by enhancing the performance of what we already have or maybe just coming up with even more interesting approaches to solve them that we should only be able to tap on when many human brains put themselves at work. It's efficient at low speeds while nuclear turbines are most efficient at very high speeds. I guess you can always gear up or down but I'm skeptical this is more efficient or if it could even handle the power.

Hell even geothermal might be possible anywhere for a lower cost than nuclear. That is baseline power. If the people developing pervoskite cells for solar are correct, and they can fix the longevity problem? Solar cost will dramatically drop due to the fact you can manufacture them easier simply by printing it on a medium.

Nothing is complex if one has the money, time, resources and dedication for doing so.
Use this tech to make 100 year wind turbines to bring down electricity cost. No gearbox is a big maintenance advantage.
be careful to not confuse between motor and generator although some may work as both.
usually all of them do unless they are induction and dont have controllers capable of keeping the rotor excited.
Are there any 3 phase motors that aren't capable of regeneration? Not that I know of, but I'm sure there could be something weird out there.

sounds interesting, I would have study it more. But sounds very promising.
