  • We made a few tests with the Roborock S5 Max to find out how the mopping function works. The Roborock S5 Max is not only one of the best robots that does a great job at vacuuming but also the best robot I have tested that has excellent mopping performance. If I had fewer carpets, I would use the mopping feature every other day because it is fantastic! I personally think it is one of the best Roborock models so far, and I would recommend this model to anyone who wants proper mopping ability and excellent vacuum performance, have pets, or struggle with allergy/asthma.

    Few advice for the mop mode. Wet the mop pad before use. The dry mop need a few minutes to get wet and along this time its not that efficient. You can use alcohol based cleaner in the water tank. No chemicals only alcohol with one drop aroma oil, lemon for example. I use filtered water (if its possible dont use regular water, use cleaned or distilled water) mixed with a litte isopropyl alcohol (around 1-5%) and one drop lemon essential oil. This safe to use in the plastic water tank, and not damaged the water pump but significantly increased the mopping efficiency and have nice smell on the floor. I use my s5 max like this since a few months now and i see the difference already. Also the alcohol mixture prevent the water tank and the pump to get smell bad. The water can stay in the tank even for many days, and did not get stagnant water smell. Extra the alcohol can help to keep the water pump walve clean. Just make sure you dont use too many alcohol. The alcohol concentration would be 5% at max.

    I've only been using our S5 for a week🌼 and we've been very happy with it. We've only used it for sweeping/vacuuming floors. The first time it went through the house, the dust bin was full. It went under the sofa and shelves where we normally don't sweep. We cant believe how much it cleaned with just using the low setting (balance). You can actually notice our hard floor a little shinier.

    • @SmartRobotReviews

      Thanks! It will never cross the carpet if you set no-mop zones in the app. It can detect carpets, but this function only works to increase suction on the carpet, but it doesn't create the no-mop zones automatically, you should set it manually. If you set the no-mop zone and there is no way to reach the other floor side without crossing the carpet, the robot will ignore that area.

    • @magikat7
      @magikat7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Smart Robot Reviews Thanks! It sucks that once the mop feature is on, it can't retract the mop into itself to allow it cross non-moppable zones. That would be a totally hands free feature 🤞🏼

    • @donka80
      @donka80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It will cross eventually. The mopping will be disabled, so the water not flow any longer. Then its try to around the no mop zone. If its cannot be possible its just run around for a few minutes. If the room space big enough the mop pad dry for a bit. Then it will cross the carpet. This algorythm is not perfect, so sometimes just stop and says unable to reach the target. With the right sequence this can work. Make sure you use vacuum only mode for that room where the carpet is. Just use custom modes for the rooms, and you can disable the mop for specific rooms. I think this function is still in active developement since far not perfect. But its something :) I rearrange some of my room and make passage for the robot for safely avoid the carpets. I also find out a great method how to reveal the carpet area in the map for helping select the no mop zone. Use heavy books around the carpet corners. Place one book on each bracket. The robot will be hit those books and around it, so it will be revealed on the map as a black dot or (if its a bigger book) looks like a furniture. Then you can easily draw the no mop zones use these helpers :)

The Roborock uses Lidar and builds a precise map of your house, while the Coredy doesn't create a map and moves randomly so it doesn't know where it is already cleaned and can miss some areas in your house. Comparing the S5 Max to the S6, do both do an equal job in mop mode or is one better than the other? If equal is it just a matter of water tank size which allows the Max to mop more space with less frequent fill ups?

    • @SmartRobotReviews
      @SmartRobotReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The S5 Max is better at some things, no-mop zones, customized mopping settings for each room, etc. And yes, when it comes to mopping, it does a better job because of the new design of the water tank and the way it supplies water to the mopping cloth. The S6 has a water tank that drags the mop around and has a switch to choose water dripping. It also does a good job but the S5 Max is better in terms of mopping anyway, maybe one of the best mopping & sweeping robots on the market. The mopping pad has a gap thanks to which it provides closer pressure to the floor ensuring better cleaning results. And the size of the water tank matters as well, now it covers a bigger hard floor area before you need to refill the container again. The Roborock S6 is quieter and has a nicer-looking charging dock with adjustable cord length.

      The Roborock has a larger battery and longer runtime so it's suitable for bigger houses. If you have carpets, I would highly recommend getting the S5 Max, it shows much better performance on carpets. As a long-haired human being, I also prefer the cleaning brush of the S5 Max with detachable tips. I also like the customizable cleaning settings for each room in the S5 Max including separate cleaning modes and water output for each room. I would say the Mop P might be slightly better at mopping (because of its Y-shaped mopping path) but not that much as if you would notice in real life. The Roborock is also better at picking up stuff on both surfaces (based on my experience with both). And I can't stop saying about Roborock customer support. Every time I contacted them, I got a response in a few hours. Unlike Xiaomi, Roborock releases new firmware updates with bug fixes or new features pretty often. Overall, the S5 Max feels like a finished product while the Mop P has some small design flaws (like a leaking water tank) and software/firmware bugs. If I had to choose I would go for the Roborock but the Xiaomi Mop P is okay too if you are not ready to spend more for the more expensive S5 Max.

      Use pure alcohol only. Isopropyl would do it. Make a 1-5% concentrated water-alcohol mixture. Thats not damage the water tank, neither the pump. I asked xiaomi about this, they said this is safe. Dont use any chemical based cleaner! Thats possible damage the pump.

    • @donka80
      @donka80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second option but its needs more work, use hard soap and file down a bit to the mop fabric top layer and attach like this to the mop pad. Then use clean water for the tank. Now when the water flow to the mop fabric the soap slowly dissolve. If you use too many soap the floor will be slippery, so i prefer the alcohol mixture method. :)

    Seems more like a cute toy than something actually usable. Anyone who's ever mopped a room before knows that while you mop you need to constantly rinse the mop in a bucket. Just imagine if you just kept wetting the mop without cleaning it as you moved around, that's just gross and totally unhygienic.
    Imagine if you actually used this thing to clean up a coffee spill. It would spread that coffee spill all around your tiles or floor. Depending on your floor this might totally ruin it. If you have floors that are sensitive to PH changes such as real wood floors.
    Then there's the minuscule reservoir size and it doesn't automatically refill itself. By the time you've finished faffing around with it, at some point you're going to wonder why you got suckered into buying a novelty item when your house is still in need of actual mopping.

    And... the EDGES?? the mop can't cover the edges!

      Yes, it can't reach corners. Anyway, you will need to wipe the floor by hand from time to time, but for everyday cleaning, this robot is a good helper. The Roborock S5 Max, as well as other robot vacuums/mops available on the market, will not be able to handle an old stubborn stain.

      I don't understand why roborock continues to use this mop. It is true that it helps the daily cleaning, but if it also cleaned the edges it would do better, like its "friend" Xiaomi mijia STYJ02YM ... (or Viomi V2)

      @@AA-2018 The angular shaped vacuum more likely stuck on a crowded room than a round shaped. If the mapping algorythm will be better this wont be an issue. The round shaped models can cover almost the whole room, only a very little part around the edges missed.

      @@donka80 I'm talking about the cloth, not the shape of the robot ... The roborock cloth leaves almost 10 cm unwashed from the edge. This is a fact.

    Please do not buy Roborock - my device stopped working with "internal error" just after a year in Aug 2020. No support yet from Xiaomi or its support centers.

      If you want people to know about how flawed the product is, you have to give more details about what made your product bad. Saying something as meaningless "internal error" is absolutely meaningless, sounding more like competitor company trying to leave fake bad reviews.
