    Watching you skate around cities from this angle really helps me plan my own skate outings, learn how to pay attention to traffic and maybe which areas in certain cities I’ll avoid skating 😬 I often think I just need to be a better skater to navigate certain areas, but maybe sometimes it’s not me.

    Anyone who skates or bikes on the streets of Manhattan has balls of steel as far as I'm concerned! It's a very different place on the ground compared to what you see in pop culture. You hit up the most trafficked, touristy locations in this video. The parks are great places to skate and there are spots like Pier 76 in Hudson yards, pier 2 in Brooklyn heights, the Bay Ridge Promenade, and Governor's Island if you're looking for less crowds, more open space and scenery. Excited to see more videos from your NYC visit!

    This is awesome man!! Fun fact: Two weeks ago, I went to NY for the first time, and decided to get my FR1 80 Skates (which I bought because of your recommendation) to skate through the city. I also got my Insta 360 onex2 (which I also bought because of you and other skaters) and filmed the whole thing from Times Square (which was also PACKED) to the ESB and other landmarks. The only difference is that it was at night and I only had 3 wheels on one skate because I forgot one of the wheels at the hotel hahaha. I'm even thinking of creating a channel so I can post this video along with some other ones. Crazy video, keep it up!!

    Now I understand what "social anxiety" really means. You can't even walk like a normal person. You can only evade at every corner. Living in a crowded place like NY is terrifying. Scary noises & loud over the top. Unnatural habitat.

    • @Belhade
      @Belhade 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually have the opposite reaction to NYC. People complain that it's unfriendly and rude, but I feel it's more impersonal. Everybody's doing their own thing and not getting involved with anything else. There's no chit-chat. No expectation for small talk and such. This scratches my itch perfectly - I don't like being isolated, but I don't like talking to people. This city is filled with people who don't care you're there.

    The rough streets are being resurfaced. They dig them up, leave them bumpy and janky sometimes for weeks at a time and then fresh smooth asphalt goes down. Streets are resurfaced every 7 years. But a lot of utilities are under the streets so they dig up beautiful asphalt and leave bumpy patches and the beat goes on…

    I doubt you remember bro but about 6 months ago I got some skates to skate in downtown but I’m case you do I just wanted to update:
    So I have been skating damn near every day and after a broken wrist and this random Facebook group of retired age roller bladers. I upgraded to some twister skates with endless 90 frames and man it’s been so awesome. I’m at a point where I know every inch of Houston but somehow every skate still feels like an adventure. Crazy to think about how this all started with a TikTok lmaoooo but thanks for the vids. I feel like skill wise I have just about mastered the basics. Skating fast, stopping, crossovers, hills, and shitty roads. Recently been working on going fast backwards. But I have been averaging about 15 miles a skate. Kinda sucks rn because it’s stupid hot but at least winter skates will probably feel like a breeze

      I do live in Manhattan and personally I do not recommend living here as the city noises will quickly become very annoying especially when you're trying to sleep and a fire truck blazes through with the sirens blaring or someone revving there car to the max or just a truck being really fucking loud. Driving in Manhattan is hellish and housing prices are insane.

    • @wildrice8199
      @wildrice8199 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video! I get your comments about the city but once you're used to the city's dynamics it becomes a pretty great place to skate and the simple reason for that is average traffic speed which is slower than your skating speed.
    Your comments about street conditions are funny because it's been soo good thanks to the pandemic and all the resurfacing. The streets you complained about are actually ripped open for resurfacing :P

    Would be nice if you didn't judge a city as "horrible" and "unfriendly" based on the most chaotic area with the most tourists. New Yorkers generally avoid those areas if possible.
    You desperately need a local guide or friends to show you around. Not sure when this was recorded, but I think you missed the Big Apple Roll by exactly one week. Discoasis in Central Park is closing soon. There's Flippers Rink at Rockefeller Center, but you'd probably have more fun at any skate gathering in the outer borroughs or parks. Tompkins or Washington Square Park might be fun if you just want to hang and people watch in the Village. Much more social, friendly vibes.

    • @Skating_Squid
      @Skating_Squid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I actually went for the big Apple roll and I will have a lot more videos in the coming weeks. I tried flippers as well but this was just the first day in a city I’ve never been before so it was a little overwhelming. It gets a lot better as I learned the city so look forward to the progression!

      @nicolassales1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skating_Squid I totally get you when you say that about "horrible" and "unfriendly". From my POV, those areas seem abandoned as everything is so messed up and people don't seem to care at all about anything. Cars just do what they want, people cross red lights and don't even care and there's just SO MUCH trash everywhere. Too bad I missed those nice parts recommended here, but Times Square and the areas around are a mess.

    • @Skating_Squid

      Yeah it was honestly really one of the most stressful skates I’m not sure why 😅 probably because it was the first day and I went straight to skating after driving for 5 hours to get there. Awww poor thing. Don't feel bad. You're not the 1st tourist that got overwhelmed by the big bad skyscrapers, taxi cabs & the mean & rude for no reason natives. Reality is, those aren't even New Yorkers you're interacting with. The only time native NY'ers go to Times Square is when we're playing tour guide to folks from out of state such as yourself. If you really wanna see what NYC is really like them you need to go to the outer Boros before you throw shade. Skating in midtown against traffic yet you're looking at the cab driver like he's the idiot smh. It's all good. Many a superstar pro athlete sign with a New York sports team & end up choking under the big city lights so I wouldn't expect someone like you to thrive in this environment. If you're looking for "inviting & polite" try downtown. I'm certain you'll run into some really polite folks that'll hook you up with a Rolex & gold chain for pennies on the dollar.

    "I don't want to sound like a New York hater"...Then proceeds to bash on NYC for the next 10 minutes. You think that's bad, that is Nothing compared to pre-pandemic. You don't think all those people in Times Square live here? Those are all out of Towner's just like you. Native NY'ers don't congregate in Times Square LMFAO. You say you couldn't live here? News Flash... Nobody lives in Mid Town. It's the Buisness district. It's not a residential neighborhood. You're passing judgement on a whole City based on your interactions with a bunch of other tourists within a tourist trap. Good stuff.
